Justin Gaethje BMF fight with Conor McGregor dreamt about ending his career UFC

Newly-minted symbolic BMF titleholder, Justin Gaethje has once more played up the possibility of a future clash with long-time UFC foe, former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor, claiming he has long desired to end the career of the veteran Dubliner.

Gaethje, the current number two ranked lightweight contender and former interim division champion, headlined UFC 291 most recently against common-foe, Dustin Poirier back in July – defeating the Lafayette puncher with a spectacular second round high-kick KO in the pair’s rematch.

As for McGregor, the 35-year-old still retains hope of headlining UFC 296 in December, in what would mark his combat sports return for the first time since he fractured his left tibia and fibula in a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Poirier back in the summer of 2021.

Justin Gaethje claims Conor McGregor keeps refusing to fight him

Switching his focus from a clash with would-be common-opponent, Michael Chandler following Gaethje’s symbolic BMF title win, McGregor, who predicted a one-sided first round KO win over the Arizona veteran to boot, has earned the attention of the latter – to say the least.

“Yeah, I mean, it sounds fun,” Justin Gaethje told assembled media of a fight against Conor McGregor during a Q&A event ahead of UFC 293. “I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’ve dreamt of ending his career and making sure he’s never able to step back in there. (Michael) Chandler will now be the second guy that I’ve beat, that he’s chose to fight. And, you know, I think that speaks for itself.”

“He won’t fight me, plain and simple,” Justin Gaethje explained. “… Like I said, a chance to take him out for good, would be on the top of my list. I like money too – I fight for money, so that’s always good. No, but the chance to take him out for good – for one, shut all of his fans up for the rest of my life, at least. That’s better for me than the money.”

Former UFC welterweight, Jorge Masvidal teases a potential comeback fight against Justin Gaethje.

For as long as there has been professional fighting, there has been those who have struggled to walk away form it. Fighting becomes a huge part of their identity, so once a career ends (or when it should end) it leaves a huge whole in their life and leaves them trying to figure out who there are beyond something which has enveloped most of their life.

This is something that the recently retired Masvidal may be dealing with as the former ‘BMF’ champion recently discussed the possibility of a return to action.

The 38-year-old retired following his unanimous decision loss against Gilber Burns in April of this year.

“I just don’t feel the same way when I get there,” Masvidal stated during his retirement speech. “It’s been 20 long years, I love you all.”

Now in a recent interview with ESPN, Masvidal teased a potential cash with the newly crowned BMF champion, Gaethje.

I think he should defend it against me,” Masvidal said. “That’s what should happen. If I was to come back to the sport. That’s a big if. I never knock off coming back to fight, ‘cause I love fighting. I love fighting. It’s my favourite pastime, It’s my favourite sport, it’s my way of life. So I can never say I’m not gonna fight.” (H/T MMA News)

Gaethje scored an impressive knockout win over Dustin Poirier last month at UFC 291, earning himself the BMF title, which was created for Masvidal’s headlining fight against Nate Diaz.

Khabib Nurmagomedov claims Justin Gaethje hardest hitter in UFC he hits like a truck

Former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov has claimed former interim division titleholder, Justin Gaethje is the most dangerous and hardest hitting opponent he shared the Octagon with during his tenure with the UFC – detailing the ferocious power the Arizona native possesses.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion under the banner of the UFC, retired from combat sports back in 2020, citing the passing of his late father and head coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov as the reasoning behind his decision to hang up his gloves.

The announcement came immediately following Nurmagomedov’s title unification win over the above-mentioned, Gaethje, submitting the then-interim lightweight champion with a stunning second round triangle choke for a technical submission win on ‘Fight Island’.

Khabib Nurmagomedov heaps praise on Justin Gaethje

And reflecting on his career and the opponents he has faced, Nurmagomedov, who also successfully defended his title against fellow punchers, Conor McGregor, and Dustin Poirier, revealed that Dominance MMA stablemate, Gaethje holds the most worrying power.

“I think it was Justin Gaethje,” Khabib Nurmagomedov told Patrick Bet-David during a recent interview. “He hits like [a] truck, but it was one thing what breaks like it was right uppercut and left hook, it was his best shot in the fight and I told him, ‘Brother, this is everything you have?’”

“I was talking with him, it was [a] conversation inside the cage,” Khabib Nurmagomedov explained. “I like Justin Gaethje, and I was talking with him after this combination, and [at the] end of the first round, he started to like tire, and I told him, ‘This is jetlag because you come to Abu Dhabi one week before the fight, I’m here one month.’ I know where I was after one week because this is like [a] desert. You have to be there at least a couple of weeks before the fight. I know myself, one week when I come [to Abu Dhabi], I cannot sleep.”

Most recently headlining UFC 291 back in July, Gaethje avenged a TKO loss to common-foe, Poirier, finishing the Lafayette native with a stunning second round high-kick KO to land the symbolic BMF championship.

Justin Gaethje welcomes fight with UFC rival Conor McGregor sign the contract big boy

Newly-minted symbolic BMF championship holder, Justin Gaethje has been the subject of attention from former two-weight UFC titleholder, Conor McGregor since his title win back in July, however, the Arizona native has opened as a stunning, and quite large betting favorite to win the former duel-weight champion in a potential future bout.

Gaethje, the current number two ranked lightweight contender and newly-minted symbolic BMF titleholder, most recently headlined UFC 291 at the end of July in Salt Lake City, Utah, landing the aforenoted promotional title with a stunning second round win over common-foe, Dustin Poirier.

Avenging a prior 2018 loss to the Lafayette native, Gaethje managed to spring with a spectacular second round high-kick, sending Poirier to the canvas in brutal fashion for a jaw-dropping KO victory for Justin Gaethje.

As for McGregor, the 35 year old has been sidelined himself since he headlined a July 2021 card against Poirier in the pair’s trilogy rubber match at UFC 264.

Yet to return to active competition since that T-Mobile Arena showdown, McGregor fractured his left tibia and fibula in the opening round of his clash with Louisiana native, seeing the bout come to a close due to a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO.

Justin Gaethje opens as a massive betting favorite over Conor McGregor

Switching attention to a fight with Gaethje following the Arizona native’s BMF title victory against Poirier at the end of last month, McGregor has clamoured for a pairing, however, has opened as a massive +250 betting underdog for the pairing, with Gaethje himself sat as a -325 betting favorite for the potential future pairing.

A host of UFC best bets websites are already taking action on a hypothetical pairing between Gaethje and McGregor before the end of this year, with the two recently also exchanging some verbals on social media in relation to a potential matchup in the future.

In the immediate aftermath of his victory over Poirier, Gaethje claimed that he would have no interest in ever facing McGregor in the future, alluding to long-rumored performanc enhancing drug use from the Crumlin striker during his absence from combat sports.

“I’m not going to fight someone on steroids,” Justin Gaethje said of a fight with Conor McGregor during his post-fight press conference at UFC 291. “I’ve never taken steroids in my life, never will – well,  maybe when I retire, I might, but I’ve never taken steroids, and I don’t want to fight someone that’s cheating. And I probably shouldn’t even say that I want the fight, but it’s the truth.”

However, in the weeks following that initial claim, Gaethje, a staple of Dominance MMA headed up by Ali Abdelaziz, claimed on his official X account that he had penned a contract to fight the Dubliner – urging him to the do the same.

Off the back of their most-recent exchange, McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion predicted a slew of dominant victories over Gaethje, planning a rather violent first round finish over the veteran lightweight mainstay.

“I KO him (Justin Gaethje) [with] one shot,” Conor McGregor posted. “Guarantee it.”

Dustin Poirier calls for trilogy bout with Justin Gaethje at UFC New Orleans

Off the back of a shocking knockout loss to two-time foe and fellow former interim lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 last month, Dustin Poirier has suggested a trilogy rubber match with his lightweight rival next, in a New Orleans rubber decider.

Poirier, who slumped to number three in the official lightweight rankings following UFC 291 at the end of last month, suffered a devastating stoppage loss against Gaethje, with the Arizona native avenging a 2018 finish with a thunderous second round high-kick KO win over the Lafayette native.

Off the back of the knockout defeat – which came as Poirier’s first stoppage loss via strikes since a 2016 defeat to common-foe, MIchael Johnson, the Louisana native made it clear that he still believes he lost to an opponent in Gaethje, whom he is firmly certain of that he is still better than.

“Khabib (Nurmagomedov) was better than me,” Dustin Poirier said. “I lost Saturday [at UFC 291] to somebody [Justin Gaethje] I think I’m better than.”

“I was away from home for nine weeks in training camp, you know,” Dustin Poirier explained. “I dieted 11 weeks, sacrificed so much, really – was really focused, man, was really, really focused. And felt great – the best I’ve ever felt. Honestly, the best I’ve ever felt.”

Dustin Poirier calls for trilogy fight with Justin Gaethje next

And despite teasing an impending move to the welterweight limit following years of speculation regarding a divisional climb, Poirier has now set sights on a rubber bout decider with Gaethje – suggesting a showdown in the south, in New Orleans to be exact.

“Me and Justin (Gaethje) are 1-1 let’s do #3 in New Orleans,” Dustin Poirier posted on his official X account overnight.

“I did the first fight where he’s (Justin Gaethje) from,” Dustin Poirier posted on X. “Let’s do #3 in the boot.”
