Although not 100 percent official it looks like Kamaru Usman will defend his welterweight title against Jorge Masvidal in the summer. The champion was talking up the potential fight to media including MMA Fighting over the weekend. Speaking about his future opponent, he says his knockout power is not something he’s really worried about.

“Let’s weigh it out
right now. (Jorge) Masvidal’s stand up. Or me standing with Tyron Woodley. Which
one is a little more (dangerous)? Tyron Woodley got a little more power. Tyron
Woodley can touch you and put you out. I should be worried about Masvidal? He couldn’t
knockout Nate Diaz, I should be worried about Masvidal? Come on man.”

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’
then went on to drag up his opponents high profile losses. Whilst attempting to
prove the hype surrounding Masvidal is unjustified, he said.

“This guy fought Damien Maia, what happened? He took an L. He fought ‘Wonderboy, what happened? He took an L. Now it’s crazy to me that he has all this hype, and everyone says ‘oh he’s this striker, he’s this killer, he’s this and that’. It doesn’t matter. I’m going to do me. Imma put him on his ass, Imma beat on him until he wants to quit and if he stands up, I will knock him out if I need too.”

Despite standing for
five rounds with Colby Covington last time out, Usman insists he won’t be doing
that against Masvidal. Make no mistake about it he’s going to take this fight to
the mat.

“Everyone’s talking
about striking. Don’t forget, you’ve got to stand upright to strike. Don’t
think I’m not going to take you down. I’m going to take you down, period. There’s
no secret to what’s going to happen. I’m going to take you down and I’m going
to beat on you until you quit.”

Kamaru Usman: Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal Beef Is ‘An Act’

Usman Masvidal Covington

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman believes if anyone is fake, it’s Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington with their beef.

Masvidal and Covington, who both train at American Top Team (ATT), were friends and former roommates until they embroiled in a war of words last year. The former claims their issues stemmed from Covington not paying a coach at ATT while the latter claims Masvidal was jealous of his success.

Regardless, Usman — who could be set to face Masvidal next after some heated confrontations of late — believes it’s all an act and something they planned from the start.

He even went on to add that the pair shared women among other things as he responded to claims from Masvidal that he was fake:

“He’s a guy, remember, that never wanted to do media,” Usman told media recently about Masvidal. “Oh, he’s too good for this. But this clown is now showing up to fights with a robe on. This guy’s wearing a suit pretending to be Tony Montana now. He’s turned into everything he said he wouldn’t be.

“I actually read something the other day that he and Colby plotted this. Back when they were sharing a room, sharing a bed together and sharing women. It is what it is. That’s what they plotted and it’s come to fruition. I’m happy to be the guy to send them both packing. Me and [ATT owner] Dan Lambert are friends. After this, he gotta put a picture of me up in that gym because I’ve ran through everybody in that gym so he’s gotta put a picture up of me next.”

The beef between Masvidal and Covington has been a topic of wide speculation in the mixed martial arts world and it looks like continuing that way.

What do you think? Is the Masvidal-Covington beef real or fake?

Jorge Masvidal Plans To Beat Kamaru Usman Up “Really Bad”

Jorge Masvidal has been speaking about his potential future fight against welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Despite not being official yet, the pair are expected to square off in July during International Fight Week.

On the back of a massive year in 2019, ‘Gamebred’ has turned
his attention to ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’. Whilst winning his first UFC title
would be a huge deal, Masvidal explained why fighting Usman is bigger than that.

“I’d break his face – I’d (expletive) his ass up,” Masvidal told MMA Junkie. “(The title) definitely signifies something. But more than that, beating Usman in a really bad way would be better for me in a way. He’s got a couple victories against a couple of my teammates, so I definitely got to represent for ATT there and take his head off.”

Masvidal and Usman got into a scuffle during Super Bowl Radio Row in Miami. The pair went viral, whilst shouting back and forth. Dana White went on record to scold the fighters, Masvidal though was keen to play down the situation.

“Nothing was going to happen there,” Masvidal said. “I’m not
going to touch somebody that’s already incapacitated and (expletive). He’s a
punk and I just wanted to tell him to his face, ‘I’m going to (expletive) you
up.’ I don’t know what he got so upset about. I just wanted to tell him the
truth that I’m going to (expletive) you up when we finally fight. He always
says he wants people to keep that same energy and say it to his face, that’s
exactly what I did.”

Once the fight is official don’t expect either man to let up on the trash talk. It’s very apparent Masvidal has a personal problem with Usman. One he’ll look forward to working out inside the octagon.

“He’s got like 38 personalities,” Masvidal said. “Every week
I keep finding a new one. I don’t like any of them so far. I’ve known this guy
for a while and he wasn’t that guy before. He was asking me for pictures and
handshakes back in the day. Really his name is Kamarudeen. It’s not even
Kamaru. He actually shortened up his real birth name. This guy is just a head
case of head cases.”

Dana White Claims UFC Never Considered McGregor vs. Masvidal, Usman

Dana WhiteThere are a lot of questions about who Conor McGregor will fight next. “The Notorious” made his highly-anticipated return to Octagon action last month in the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, running through Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in just 40 seconds at welterweight. There are a lot of questions about who Conor McGregor will fight next. “The Notorious” made his highly-anticipated return to Octagon action last month in the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, running through Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in just 40 seconds at welterweight.

Now, rumors run rampant as to who the Irishman fights next. Names such as Jorge Masvidal, UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, and UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov have all been mentioned. However, when it comes to the welterweight names of Masvidal and Usman, those seem to have never been on the list of possibilities. UFC president Dana White recently spoke to MMA Junkie and noted that was all McGregor talking. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“There was never any talk about Usman or Masvidal. That was Conor. That’s madness. That’s crazy,” White said.

White again noted that McGregor is under the assumption that the UFC 249 pay-per-view (PPV) main event between Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson won’t happen. The matchup has been made four times before, each man pulling from the contest due to injury every time. “Notorious” is ready to step in on a moment’s notice as soon as either man pulls.

“Conor’s thing right now is Conor thinks Tony vs. Khabib is going to happen and he wants to slide into that spot. So we’ll see how that plays out,” White said. “He is ready, willing and able to slide into that spot if it becomes available.”

As for Usman and Masvidal, those two are being looked at to headline International Fight Week this summer. The pair engaged in a verbal altercation during Super Bowl media day last week and prompted White to announce his intentions. However, the fight has not been signed or agreed upon quite yet.

Of course, Masvidal has made it known he’d like to fight McGregor purely for the financial benefit. It will be interesting to see how things shake out in the next few months.

What do you think about White saying he never really considered McGregor vs. Masvidal or Usman?

Dana White doesn’t appear too happy with the recent altercation between UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal.

Usman and Masvidal crossed paths at Super Bowl media day last week in Miami. The pair exchanged words, shouting and threatening one another before being separated by security. The video went viral, and White later announced that the UFC was looking to book Usman vs. Masvidal for International Fight Week in July. However, that doesn’t mean White enjoyed the altercation.

Speaking to ESPN, White said, while some people think he sees dollar signs when incidents like that happen, he’s actually thinking about the reputation of the sport. The UFC boss added that Usman and Masvidal acted like “neanderthals.” (H/T MMA Junkie)

“I don’t love it,” White said. “People think because I’m a promoter I’m like, ‘Cha-ching. That’s great for us.’ But it’s not great for us. We’re here at the Super Bowl – Radio Row at the Super Bowl, the NFL – and these two are acting like neanderthals.”

White followed up by saying the Super Bowl media day was mostly filled with non-mixed martial arts (MMA) followers. Incidents like the one between Usman and Masvidal scare people who aren’t familiar with the sport. Also, now that the sport is regulated, the athletic commission could get involved should things have gotten out of control.

“The problem is for the people who (are) in here and the media, it scares (non-MMA) people like this,” White said. “That’s a scary thing when that goes down. If they touch each other, now the police get involved. We’re regulated by the government. Now, the athletic commissions are getting involved (if they touch each other).

“Those two are going to fight in Las Vegas in ‘International Fight Week’ for 25 minutes. They can do whatever they want to each other. That fight’s happening. You don’t have to do it here at Radio Row at the Super Bowl.”
