Colby Covington thinks if he stepped inside of the Octagon with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov then it would be an easy fight. That’s a bold statement to say about such a dominant fight in Khabib.

UFC president Dana White has already stated that Covington is next for a title shot in the 170-pound division as it will be Kamara Usman’s next title defense. However, the date and location have yet to be announced.

Covington recently made an appearance on Submission Radio where he talked about the belief that if he fought Khabib then it would be his easiest fight thus far in his career as a pro-MMA fighter.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s an easy fight,” Covington said (H/T to MMAFighting). “And he’s already been asking to fight GSP in between welterweight and lightweight, and I can make in between welterweight and lightweight cause I’m not a big welterweight. So, it’s gonna be more rewarding to smash two of Ali’s biggest clients and just leave him crying, dude. He’s already emotional. You saw how emotional he was at the last fight. So, taking down two of his clients and meal tickets is gonna be a sweet feeling.”

“Oh man, he would be my easiest challenge,” Covington said. “He’s small and he doesn’t even do what I do as good as I do it. He can’t wrestle as good as me, he’s never faced a high-level division-one All American, a kid who’s been wrestling his whole life. That Sambo sh*t, that sh*t’s weak, man. If wrestling were easy, it would be called Sambo. But it’s not, it’s called wrestling.”

Khabib fires back at Conor McGregor over the recent insults that he gave while they were trading words on social media.

There is no love lost in the bad blood between McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Part of the highlights from that trade was McGregor bringing up Khabib’s religion and wife while Nurmagomedov returned fire by calling the Irishman a “rapist.”

The UFC lightweight champion recently did an interview with RT Sport where he talked about the recent exchange. At one point, Khabib called the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion a lowlife for talking trash from thousands of kilometers away.

The reason for that mindset is due to McGregor not saying anything while they were fighting back in October.

“He always wants to be in the headlines. If you noticed, after each UFC event he makes comments, he praises those who win or insults someone. This is his way of self-promoting, that’s how he makes headlines all the time. It works for him, he knows what he’s doing and I got no problem with that, he can say whatever he wants. But inside of the cage, he didn’t say anything.  When I was hitting him in the face with my elbows and knees, when I said ‘let’s talk’ he didn’t respond. And now, when he is thousands of kilometers away, he is saying things.

That just shows what kind of lowlife he really is. I have no problem with that because we were one on one in the cage. When he was on the floor he didn’t speak to me and that is what really matters.”

Middleweight title challenger Kelvin Gastelum is the latest fighter to voice his concerns on the ‘escalating’ Conor McGregor & Khabib Nurmagomedov feud.

Wednesday, April 3, 2019, is going to cast a dark shadow on mixed martial arts. That is because that’s the day the McGregor & Nurmagomedov feud took an even darker turn previously imagined. The two fighters volleyed hateful, insulting tweets back and forth at one another until UFC President Dana White stepped in to bring some much-needed levity to the conversation. While White’s intervention may have simmered the rivalry, lines have been crossed.

Gastelum, who fights Israel Adesanya for the interim middleweight in the co-main event of UFC 236, is no stranger to trash talking. But even he thinks the lines have been crossed.

“I think there are some lines that shouldn’t be crossed,” Gastelum said at a media event on Thursday (via MMAJunkie). “And this rivalry that’s going on right now is escalating to a point where it shouldn’t have to, you know what I mean?”

Many fans and media personalities have suggested that if the trash talking persists, or worse, continues to escalate, someone could get hurt. Gastelum fears the same ending may be in sight.

“I feel like if it keeps escalating the way it is, somebody is going to end up getting hurt or shot, or something. I truly believe that.”

As mentioned above, Gastelum can hold his own in the trash talking game. His digs on Robert Whittaker were though to be harsh at the time. But when it comes to things like family and religion, well that’s just something you shouldn’t mess with.

“You shouldn’t mess with people’s wives, you shouldn’t mess with people’s lives or their religion, absolutely,” Gastelum said.

UFC 236 takes place April 13 from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier will serve as the main event.
