With rumors running rampant that No. 1-ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov and No. 2-ranked Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson will finally throw-down inside the Octagon, ‘The Eagle’s’ father has shed some light on the situation and possibly just revealed his son’s next opponent.

Responding to a fan question on his VKontakte account, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov stated that his son will in fact take on Ferguson in his next Octagon appearence:

Screen Shot 2017-01-08 at 1.16.05 PMAs we reported yesterday, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani stated that the bout between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov is nearly done for UFC 209, along with a welterweight title rematch between Tyron Woodley and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, and shortly after ‘The Eagle’s’ manager Ali Abdelaziz and Ferguson himself began teasing big announcements to come.

Nurmagomedov is currently undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career with a record of 24-0, with his most recent win coming via third round submission against Michael Johnson at UFC 205. Ferguson is currently riding a historical nine-fight win streak in the UFC’s lightweight division, and is looking to propel himself into title contention with a massive win over ‘The Eagle’.

How do you see a match-up between the two world-class 155-pound fighters going down?

UFC 209 will go down live on pay-per-view (PPV) from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 4, 2017.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is no doubt making a name at lightweight but he is also a man on the mission. He is being hyped as the next lightweight champion and this year could finally be his.

Nurmagomedov is reportedly scheduled to face Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight title soon. While speaking with Dave Doyle of MMA Fighting, Nurmagomedov is down for that fight as he plans to beat Ferguson, take the title and then fight the real UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who is expected to be out of action for a bit as his girlfriend is pregnant.

“I want to beat Tony Ferguson, take the interim bullsh*t belt, and I will fight with Conor for real belt,” Nurmagomedov said. “This is what I want to make in 2017. If the UFC would ask me about Conor, of course, I would take this fight,” Nurmagomedov said. “He has the belt now. I want to take his belt. … It’s my belt. Everybody knows I deserve a title shot. But, Tony Ferguson is on nine win streak, he deserves [a chance] too.”

Nurmagomedov is not sure if McGregor even wants to defend the belt, which he won in November 2015 from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.

“I think 50/50. I think maybe he takes the fight at 170, if he loses at 170, he comes back to 155. He does this all the time. He never defends his belt. He never defended his belt in Cage Warriors, he never defends his belt in UFC, he’s all the time playing games because he has good pay-per-view and that’s why he has power in the UFC.”

Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson is expected to be featured on the main card of UFC 209 on March 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rumor: Two Huge Fights Headed For UFC 209 In Vegas

Las Vegas’ UFC 209 pay-per-view (PPV) could be getting a whole lot bigger.

According to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC are closing in on inking two massive bouts to the PPV card in March. Helwani reports that bouts between top lightweights Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, as well as a welterweight title rematch between Tyron Woodley and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson are on the promotion’s radar:

Woodley and Thompson initially met in the co-main event of UFC 205 from the Madison Square Garden Arena in New York City, in which the Fight Of The Night ended in a majority draw decision being read from the judges’ scorecards. Immediately after the contest talks of a rematch began to hit wind, and it seems that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Nurmagomedov is the most dominant lightweight in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) today, as he is currently undefeated in his fighting career with a staggering record of 24-0. Ferguson is currently on a record nine-fight win streak in the UFC’s 155-pound division, and is looking to propel himself into a title shot with a win over ‘The Eagle’.

Ali Abdelaziz, Nurmagomedov’s manager, took to Twitter to post a rather cryptic message to fight fans, posting a plethora of Russian flags along with a few smiley faces:

Abdelaziz was asked by fans what the Tweet meant, to which he responded with a series of Chicken emojis:

The chickens are in reference to Nurmagomedov’s post-fight interview from UFC 205, in which he called UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor a chicken for not having fought him yet:

“I want to fight with your (the UFC’s) chicken because this is the number one easy fight in lightweight division.”

McGregor’s head-coach, John Kavanagh, interestingly enough posted a picture of ‘The Notorious One’ getting some work done in the gym, despite the fact that the Irish champ stated he wanted to take some time off before returning to Octagon action to enjoy the birth of his first child:

The best way to become advanced is to drill the fundamental movements daily.

A video posted by Coach Kavanagh (@coach_kavanagh) on

As for Ferguson, he took to Twitter as well to tease an announcement to come regarding his Octagon return using the phrase ‘El Cucuy is coming’:

What are your thoughts fellow fight fans? What could all this mean?

Khabib Nurmagomedov is ‘Moving on’ From Tony Ferguson, Eyeing Michael Chiesa

Remember when Khabib Nurmagomedov’s team gave Tony Ferguson six days to sign a bout agreement? Well it appears “The Eagle’s” camp got tired of waiting and are going in another direction.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was told Nurmagomedov is ready to face the next highest ranked lightweight without a fight. Here is his tweet:

Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz confirmed that his fighter was indeed looking at No. 8 ranked 155-pounder Michael Chiesa as a potential opponent for UFC 209. He also said “The Eagle” will begin training in a couple of days.

If this holds true, it appears current featherweight champion Jose Aldo will be losing out on his bid for an interim lightweight title showdown with Nurmagomedov. Aldo said he was offered the bout, but “The Eagle” turned it down. Nurmagomedov has shown disinterest in the fight and claimed he doesn’t “bully the little.”

Chiesa may not be the first person fight fans would’ve thought of, but he may very well be the only one available. Eddie Alvarez is still recovering from his knockout loss to current champion Conor McGregor, Rafael dos Anjos is moving up in weight, Edson Barboza is booked, and Nate Diaz wants $20 million.

Don’t mistake the “Maverick” for a slouch. Chiesa reigned supreme on season 15 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). He hit a couple of snags when he was submitted by Jorge Masvidal and lost via doctor’s stoppage against Joe Lauzon, but Chiesa has seven wins inside the Octagon.

Of those seven wins, five have come by way of submission. All of Chiesa’s career submission wins have come via some form of a choke. Moral of the story here is, don’t let him grab a hold of your neck.

UFC 209 is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on March 4. Heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt will clash on the card. The event is still without a headliner.

Khabib’s Manager to Ferguson: ‘You Have Six Days to Make Deal’

khabib-nurmagomedov

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx0bM9KHFA8

The first time Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson were set to compete was back in Dec. 2015. Injuries suffered by both men over the past year have prevented them from going toe-to-toe. This time, the roadblock is different.

“El Cucuy” says he won’t fight Nurmagomedov unless he gets equal pay. “The Eagle” blasted Ferguson and said he just needs to, “shut up and take this fight.” Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz took to his Twitter account to give Ferguson an ultimatum. You can read what was said in the now deleted tweet:

“@TonyFergusonXT you have 6 days to make a deal with the UFC. If you don’t make a deal I’m going to find someone else to fight @danawhite.”

It appears that Abdelaziz meant to tweet this from Nurmagomedov’s Twitter account instead of his own. Regardless, featherweight champion Jose Aldo is willing and ready for an interim lightweight title bout with “The Eagle.” It’s a fight that was offered to the Russian Sambo ace, but he wanted to fight Ferguson.

If the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) doesn’t budge when it comes to contract talks, Ferguson may be missing out on a big opportunity and see either Aldo or Nurmagomedov move on to face Conor McGregor in a unification title bout.
