Ahead of his return fight against Michael Chandler, the crowd-pleasing Justin Gaethje details his journey back to competition and the differences between his three losses.

Reflecting on his only three losses in MMA, “The Highlight” believes his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov was different from his other two. On that fateful night last October, the then-32-year-old Nurmagomedov’s dark energy was palpable, and Gaethje could feel it right away. Overwhelmed with sorrow, Nurmagomedov submitted Gaethje with a triangle choke instead of permanently damaging his tendons with an armbar in the first round.

Speaking to UFC legend and Hall of Famer, Matt Serra on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, Gaethje breaks down his losses and what he needs to do in order to become the best lightweight on the planet.

“It was a different experience than I had ever really experienced. Losing to Dustin [Poirier] and Eddie [Alvarez] was different than this one. This one hurt, but I don’t know. I gave everything that night. He is great. And then with what he was fighting with, with the death of his father, I really felt that power in there, and I just don’t think that no matter what I did or how great I was next to the one in a million shut-their-lights-out shot, which doesn’t happen often, then it was gonna be hard for me to win.

“So I’m confident, and I need to be confident that nobody on planet Earth at 155 pounds can, number one, take those shots; and two, walk through those shots and continue to pressure me and take me down and be that effective,” Gaethje said to Matt Serra.

The #2-ranked Gaethje is ready to get the taste of defeat out of his mouth and will get a crack at Chandler in New York City, New York at the UFC 268 PPV on Nov. 6. Initially, some panic set in as Chandler mentioned that he would not be vaccinated by the time the event was at our doorstep. Current legislation in New York now requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to participate in most indoor activities.

In what is likely to be one of the most exciting fights of the year, Gaethje and Chandler are eager to ply their trade at the historic Madison Square Garden venue on Nov. 6 at UFC 268: Usman vs. Covington 2. Gaethje will return from a year-long layoff and look to reposition himself for another run at gold.

Fedor has voiced his opinion regarding Khabib’s recent comments directed at MMA ring girls.

The recently retired Khabib Nurmagomedov has come under fire following the controversial comments he made targeting “unnecessary” ring girls in the sport of mixed martial arts. Here is some of what Khabib had to say:

“Look, I don’t want to offend anyone, ring girls are the most useless people in martial arts. What is their purpose? I have a question. You can show that it is the second round on the screen. I realize that is a history. History knows many mistakes. We read history to avoid mistakes of the past in the future. If we look in the history, it says they are useless. That is my personal opinion…”

Former and current fighters, pundits, and even ring girls themselves have all replied to Khabib’s opinions on this subject, and now, “The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko has given his thoughts on the subject.

While speaking with Fighting Flashback, Fedor was asked to share his views on Khabib’s statements and whether he agreed with his fellow Russian or not.

“The girls are showing the number of the rounds… [Round shaped] plates. The only [thing] is to dress them more decent.” Emelianenko said.

When pressed to comment further on the issue, Fedor insisted that his focus remains solely on his team and family, and whatever Khabib said is none of his concern.

“You know I don’t have [anything to do with it],” Fedor stated. “I have enough problems and affairs of my team and my family to not fill my head with stupid things.”

You can check out the video for Fedor’s thoughts on the matter below.

Fedor Emelianenko will face off with Timothy Johnson when the two heavyweights lock horns at Bellator 269 on October 23, in a fight that is believed to be the 44-year-old’s last.

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will take part in two “motivational talk” events in the United Kingdom next month.

Khabib, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters to have ever entered the Octagon, retired from mixed martial arts in 2020. At UFC 254, “The Eagle” faced Justin Gaethje in the main event. In what proved to be his final appearance in the cage, Khabib submitted “The Highlight” in the second round.

The Dagestani’s victory over Gaethje marked the third successful defense of the 155-pound gold. After winning the vacant belt in a five-round clash against Al Iaquinta in 2018, Khabib defended his title against MMA’s biggest superstar Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier before saying farewell to the sport after his clash with Gaethje last October.

As he continues to take part in new ventures and events since his retirement, Khabib has announced two events he’s set to feature at in the UK. Taking to his Instagram, “The Eagle” shared details of his upcoming appearances, which are dubbed as ‘motivational talks’ by the organization hosting them.

“UK ?? get ready! I am sending you location for October 2 London October 3 Harrogate. For “The Legacy Continues”. I am partnering with @class.a.events for two exclusive events which will be to help @skt_welfare raise awareness and money for the support and benefit of orphans around the world. Buy tickets from www.sktwelfare.org/khabib before they sell out.”

Partnering with Class A Events, the Russian star will take part in two evening talks in support of orphans around the world. After the first event in London on October 2, a second talk will take place in Harrogate on October 3.

On their own Instagram page, Class A Events shed more light on what the “interview style” talks will involve and the cause they’re being hosted in support of.

“Join us as we engage Khabib Nurmagomedov in an interview style motivational talk to gain greater insights into his motivations, character and greater goals about leaving a meaningful legacy. Through “The Legacy Continues” we aim to raise funds in support of orphans around the world with @skt_welfare.”

Given the immense success he achieved in MMA, which includes an unblemished 29-0 record, it stands to reason Khabib will have many stories to tell. And having maintained his place at the top for so long, perhaps we’ll learn where he found his motivation from.

Where do you think Khabib Nurmagomedov ranks in the GOAT conversation? Is he the greatest of all time?
