It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, September 24th, 2017) will come in the form of Bellator 183. Headlining the card are Patricky “Pitbull” Freire and Benson Henderson, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Patricky “Pitbull” Freire and Benson Henderson meet in a lightweight bout in the main event.

Paul Daley and Lorenz Larkin meet in a welterweight bout in the co-main event.

Roy Nelson vs. Javy Ayala is next in a heavyweight bout.

Aaron Pico vs. Justin Linn is next in a featherweight bout. In round 1, Linn clipped with a left hand right out of the gate. Within twenty seconds of the round starting, Pico scored a takedown and got his back and rained down strikes. Linn was able to get to his feet and Pico went after him. Pico landed a series of strikes just rapid fire. Went off. Linn survived it and the crowd went nuts. Pico clipped him with a right hand and scored another takedown midway through the round. Linn was able to get back to his feet moments later and Pico scored a left hook for a walk-off KO.

Opening the main card on Spike TV is Adam Piccolotti vs. Goiti Yamauchi in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Picco went for a takedown but Yamauchi caught him with a guillotine choke. Yamauchi then went for an armbar but Picco got out of it and back to his feet. Yamauchi hung onto his left leg then clinched up against the fence. Yamauchi got on his back and locked in the rear-naked choke for the win.

Bellator 183 is set to take place tomorrow night (Sept. 23, 2017) live from San Jose, California, and the promotion has stacked the deck for the event.

One intriguing fight that stands out in particular is a welterweight clash between veteran knockout artist Paul “Semtex” Daley and former UFC contender Lorenz Larkin. Not only are the two high level 170-pound fighters, but there’s also a bit of bad blood between the two.

At yesterday’s (Sept. 22, 2017) weigh-in, the two actually got into a bit of a physical altercation. Speaking on the matter, Daley simply said that he hopes Larkin brings the ‘intensity’ to the cage:

“The fact it’s getting so heated up is just comical,” he told MMAjunkie. “But I hope he brings that same intensity into the ring.”

Daley is quite outspoken outside of the cage and he’s certainly a stand-up fighter inside of the cage, but he said that rarely do his rivals bring the ‘heat’ into the fight:

“I think there are two people in my career … who felt the heat and stayed on their feet and not attempted to clinch or go for a takedown, and that’s Douglas Lima and Nick Diaz,” he said. “That’s the only two guys in over 53 fights.”

“Those are the only two guys I’ve hit and stayed up, and they haven’t tried to take me down or play a different game, and they kept coming after it,” Daley said. “I just hope Lorenz does too.”

Bellator 183 is set to be headlined by a lightweight fight between former UFC champion Benson Henderson and Patricky Freire. Heavyweight slugger Roy Nelson is also set to make his promotional debut on the card, as he’ll take on Javy Ayala.

If you couldn’t tell by now, Bellator welterweight Lorenz Larkin is not a fan of Paul Daley nor does he like talking about him. According to Larkin, talking about the fight is the opposite of what he thinks their upcoming fight should be about.

Instead, their styles should sell the fight. He doesn’t believe that it should be a manufactured grudge. Despite his mindset, Larkin is doing what Daley has done in the past, which is talking. They are set to fight each other this weekend at Bellator 183.

“I don’t do the fake stuff,” Larkin told MMAjunkie during a media day in support of the Spike-televised fight. “I get it, you’re trying to sell the fight. But we don’t need to sell the fight. It’s exciting in and of itself. So don’t do the extra (expletive).

“He’s not that guy. He’s not a talker. He doesn’t have that charisma. He just fights. If I was a promoter, I’d just be like, ‘Fight.’ Let’s not put him in front of the camera. Let’s not let people talk to him. Let’s just let them like him because he fights, not his charisma. Because he doesn’t have it.”

Up until this summer, Larkin didn’t feel this way. He thought of Daley as his next fight. When Bellator MMA President Scott Coker came to him with the idea of this bout, he had asked for a few days to check with his doctor to see if he was healthy enough to compete.

“‘We’re waiting on you, Larkin, to sign the contract,’” Larkin remembers of Daley’s words. “‘Don’t be scared,’ or some (expletive) like that. So I’m like, scared? It’s going to be funny in the years that come along,” Larkin said. “I know somebody is going to do a compilation of him talking all this mess and the repercussions of his stuff.”

Bellator 183 is set to take place at SAP Center in San Jose, California on Saturday, September 23rd. The main card airs on Spike TV at 9 PM EST.
