Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida’s Bellator MMA debut is set.

“The Dragon” meets former Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho at Bellator MMA’s Hawaii debut on December 15th, per a report from ESPN. The event will be held at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu.

Machida left the UFC after two-straight victories over the likes of Eryk Anders and Vitor Belfort. Machida’s knockout of Belfort came in spectacular fashion, via front kick knockout in May. He subsequently inked a multi-fight deal with Bellator.

Carvalho comes off his first loss after going on a 15-fight undefeated streak. He was defeated by Gegard Mousasi, losing the Bellator 185-pound title in the process. It was the first TKO loss of his fighting career.

In an interview with MMA Fighting earlier this summer, Carvalho said he’d like to welcome Machida to Bellator. It looks like he’ll get his wish:

”He’s a counter striker, but it’s a double-edged sword because I’m also a counter striker,” Carvalho said.

“It would be an interesting fight and anything could happen. Like Mike Tyson once said, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.”

Bellator’s Hawaii debut will be headlined by a women’s flyweight title fight between Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and former UFC women’s strawweight title challenger Valerie Letourneau.

Lyoto Machida Fires Back At Gegard Mousasi, Addresses Possible Fedor Fight

Lyoto Machida has fired back at Gegard Mousasi and ‘The Dragon’ talks of a possible Fedor fight.

After a few recent steroid accusations, it’s no surprise that Lyoto Machida fires back at Gegard Mousasi.

‘The Dragon’ doesn’t take kindly to callouts and accusations. Machida and Mousasi have some history. ‘The Dragon’ holds a unanimous decision victory over the current Bellator middleweight champion from a five-round affair back at UFC Fight Night 136 in 2014.

Mousasi has since accused Machida from everything to greasing to ********. ‘The Dragon’ doesn’t take kindly to those accusations.

”Everything Mousasi says only motivates me,” Machida told MMA Fighting in a recent interview. “I have a win over him and I think he’s a little bothered by it. But I think it’s an easier fight to promote now. I’m very motivated and I want this opportunity, especially with him as a champion.”

“Fighting in Bellator is a dream come true for me. Having a belt is a bigger dream,” he continued. “But I just got to the promotion, one step at a time. I have to fight first, feel well, and then think about this. I want the Bellator belt. I’m not here to be part of the roster and just fight. I came here to become champion and remain champion for as long as I can.”

USADA

Machida may still have the drive to compete with the best in the world but whether or not he can physically do it remains to be seen.

He does, however, hold some strong opinions on the anti-doping debate. Machida had an 18-month suspension handed down to him via the United States Anti-Doping Agency for disclosing his use of 7-keto-dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).

The former UFC champ approves of the goal in mind but doesn’t approve of how USADA handles some situations.

“I’m in favor of the anti-doping system in the sport, I believe it’s good for the sport, but I’m not in favor of how USADA deals with many cases,” Machida said. “I think sometimes they are too harsh and don’t take into consideration how the situation occurred, the athlete’s past, similar situations that could be seen when making a hard decision on a professional athlete’s career, whose lives and depends on it.”

Machida wouldn’t confirm he left the UFC because of USADA. He is glad to be free of their strict whereabouts system nonetheless.

“I won’t say I left the UFC because of USADA, no way, but today I feel lighter without USADA,” he continued. “I feel lighter. The thing that you have to report where you are going generated so much stress. Today I’m free, more relaxed. I’m living happier in that aspect.”

Fight With Fedor

An added perk to signing with the Scott Coker-run promotion is fight leniency. That is, fighters have the freedom to fight outside of their normal weight class. That being said, could we really get Machida vs. Fedor?

Machida says it’s possible.

“A fight with Fedor (Emelianenko) would be a superfight,” Machida said. “I’m a fan of Fedor, have been a fan since he was in PRIDE, a great champion, and since I like to challenge myself, new challenges, that was one of the offers that came with my move to Bellator. Of course, fighting Fedor would be an honor, a dream.”

Coach: Jon Jones Developing One-Punch KO Power

Jon Jones’ coach claims he’s developing one-punch KO power.

Striking coach Brandon Gibson claims he’s excited to see Jon Jones developing one-punch KO power.

“Bones” Jones is already regarded as one of the greatest fighters in combat sports history. At just 31 years old, Jones has defeated the likes of Daniel Cormier, Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson, Vitor Belfort, and Lyoto Machida.

Jones is currently dealing with his second USADA violation stemming from a failed drug test. The transgression that could sideline him for up to four years.

If USADA does see fit to lessen Jones’ punishment, the former two-time champ could be back to action as soon as next year.

Recently speaking with Luke Thomas on The MMA Hour, JacksonWink striking coach Brandon Gibson explained that he believes Jones striking potential is nearly limitless, and he has just scratched the surface when it comes to one-strike KO power.

“I think there’s still a lot of growth possible,” Gibson said. “Jon’s in his 30s now, I think he’s really starting to develop the one-strike knockout power, we saw that in the last fight. Before that, Jon was like a break ‘em down, break ‘em down, break ‘em down, finish. Where guys were never just out cold, unconscious. I think now Jon’s really developing a lot of power for 205 and he’s gonna really start putting guys to sleep.”

Jones has already finished legends of MMA which begs the question if his striking can really improve that much more.

Gibson thinks so, but he believes consistency is key.

“He’s had long periods of breaks. But I also think that this is a game where guys are paying too high of a price in training camps and sparring leading up to fights, so Jon’s layoff definitely has some benefits. But the lack of competition could also be a hindrance at times. So it’s gonna be a balance, but we never have a problem getting Jon Jones fired up.”

“He’s a special champion, he has a very special mindset, and he’ll get in there and I believe reclaim everything that he ever had and more. I told him the other day that I think greatness and his legacy continue to await us. We’re not there yet.”

A rematch with longtime rival Cormier would be ideal upon Jones return. However, it’s unclear if “DC” will have already retired from MMA at that junction.

Gibson suggested a possible cruiserweight division could be a  landing spot for Jones if it happens:

“I think the goal right now when he returns would be to claim back the light heavyweight crown. But Jon has a frame and definitely the technique and the size to compete at heavyweight.

“And who knows? Maybe they make a 225 cruiserweight some day, or 195. I think Jon would have a lot of interest in different weight categories, not just heavyweight.”

Gegard Mousasi Demands ‘Extra Drug Testing’ For Lyoto Machida Rematch

This rematch would be a very interesting one.

The post Gegard Mousasi Demands ‘Extra Drug Testing’ For Lyoto Machida Rematch appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Bellator MMA middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi thinks Lyoto Machida was on performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) when they first fought back in 2014.

Machida won that fight via unanimous decision, which was Mousasi’s second fight in the UFC and his return to 185 pounds. He’d go on to have a successful career and picked up wins over the likes of Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort, Uriah Hall, and Chris Weidman.

“The Dragon,” however, would struggle mightily against some of the same names and then some. He suffered defeats to Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero, and Derek Brunson. He recently signed with Bellator off of back-to-back victories, however, the latter being a ridiculous front kick knockout over Belfort in May.

Now that Machida has signed a deal with the Bellator promotion a rematch between he and Mousasi is very possible. Speaking to MMA Fighting‘s Luke Thomas on a recent episode of The MMA Hour, Mousasi not only accused the former UFC light heavyweight champ of using PEDs but of greasing as well:

“He was slippy as f*ck,” Machida said. “If you put oil on your body, the next day you sweat it out and you’re slippy as f*ck. I’m not [the] only [one] saying that; you can ask Luke Rockhold — he said he was slippery too and I went five rounds with [Machida].

“I was watching the video back and when I have his back he was shiny as f*ck and he had a six-pack like 15-year-old virgin boy. Then I saw his last fight with Vitor Belfort and he was fat as f*ck. What you can see, you can see. I’m not blind, go back and watch the fights.

“He had a six-pack a few years ago and since USADA came he doesn’t have one anymore. I don’t want to talk about it. People always say I’m a bad loser. I’m not a bad loser, I’m saying I fought people that were on ********, you dumb motherf*ckers — what can’t you understand about that?”

Mousasi clarified that he’d like a United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) style of testing for a potential rematch with Machida – blood and urine:

“Rematch? 100 percent. And if we have a rematch, we should be tested the same as USADA — blood and urine — because he’s a cheater, 100 percent he’s a cheater.

“I want to do it the same way,” Mousasi continued. “So far, the commission has been doing a good job so everything has been fine. I think with Machida they should do extra testing and especially blood [testing] because I don’t trust that guy.

“When I fought him, that was before USADA, people have to understand that. After USADA he’s been caught with some stupid sh*t, I don’t consider that to be [as bad]. His buddy, Anderson Silva, he knew he was being tested and he got caught twice for ********. Brazilians have a reputation for being on ********, that’s the truth,” said Mousasi.

“Before USADA, I felt he took something before our fight. Then afterwards, of course he knows he’s going to be tested so he wasn’t going to use the other sh*t that he was using before.

“I’m just wondering where is his six-pack? Watch the video of him fighting Vitor Belfort, he has a chubby belly. He still has to cut all of that weight, so when you lose all that weight you’ve got to be muscular, but he wasn’t muscular.”
