Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has been urged to avoid a big money fight against UFC superstar Conor McGregor. Justin Fortune who is Pacquaio’s strength and condition coach has advised his client to skip over McGregor as the fight would do nothing to improve his legacy in the sport.

‘Notorious’ has recently revealed his desire to box again and since Pacquiao shares the same management company as McGregor the fight seems to make sense. The Irishman even hinted a fight with ‘Pacman’ was in the works in recent social media post, but UFC president Dana White shut down any chance of that fight happening – at least in 2020 anyway.

Speaking to The Manilla Times Fortune explained why his fighter should forget about taking on McGregor, he said.

“Why even make that guy rich? And it won’t do absolutely nothing for Pacquiao as far as his legacy [is concerned]. Remember, this is just my opinion. Manny goes down as the greatest fighter in history when he finishes, because no one has done what he accomplished in boxing.”

Not only does Fortune think fighting McGregor would tarnish the legacy of Pacquiao he also believes the fight simply wouldn’t be competitive.

“Manny will destroy Conor McGregor inside the three rounds. He will obliterate him too fast and too strong as an amazing fighter. McGregor is nothing,” Fortune said.

“I mean, my God, this is boxing, we are boxers. McGregor is an MMA guy and we can’t do MMA, and he can’t box that’s very simple.”

The 41-year-old hasn’t fought since beating Keith Thurman to claim the WBA (super) welterweight title in July 2019. He has been linked to fights with Errol Spence and Terence Crawford who hold the other titles at 147lbs.

McGregor on the other hand is currently retired. The 32-year-old announced he was walking away from fighting after becoming disillusioned by the lack of fights of available to him.

Dana White told reporters that he “Doesn’t care about any of that s**t.” when asked about a potential boxing fight with Conor McGregor and Manny Pacquiao at the post-UFC Fight Night press conference last night.

Dana was asked the question after McGregor posted some tweets this week which left fans guessing who he was talking about.

McGregor first sent a tweet which said ‘I accept.’ This left fans confused after he had recently been called out by Khamzat Chimaev and Tony Ferguson.

McGregor then went on to tweet ‘tinatanggap ko’ which means ‘I accept’ in Filipino. This has led fans to believe that McGregor is talking about a boxing bout with Filipino boxing superstar, Manny Pacquiao.

It isn’t the first time that McGregor has spoke about a potential fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani before UFC 246, McGregor said: “I want to box again. I will box again. I will get a boxing world title.” He then went on to say: “There’s been talks about the Manny fight as well. There was an offer made on that.” When asked what happened McGregor said: “Just not yet.”

McGregor’s future is currently up in the air after he told his Twitter followers that he was retiring, however McGregor has repeatedly retired in the past only to fight again.

McGregor last fought at UFC 246 when he beat Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds. He has not fought in boxing since his one and only professional fight against Floyd Mayweather in 2017; Which he lost via 10th round TKO.

Former UFC dual-weight champion Conor McGregor has got fans excited after he seemingly hinted a fight with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao. Earlier this week ‘Notorious’ took to Twitter to say “I accept” after callouts from UFC newcomer Khamzat Chimaev and former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.

Ariel Helwani spoke to McGregor to attempt to decipher exactly what he was accepting. Helwani was able to discover the Irishman was not interested in fighting Chimaev but he refused to reveal any more details on his cryptic tweet.

“Spoke to Conor McGregor briefly today. He confirmed that his ‘I accept’ tweet was not about Khamzat Chimaev, despite what was said earlier today. He declined to further elaborate what it was actually referring to, though.”

McGregor again took to social media to accept something but this time he wrote it in the native tongue of boxing legend Pacquiao – “tinatanggap ko”, McGregor posted.

This tweet sent the MMA and boxing communities into overdrive as they began to speculate on a potential McGregor vs. Pacquiao boxing match. The pair who are both represented by Paradigm Sports Management have long been linked to fighting one another. McGregor has fought only once the squared circle, losing via tenth-round TKO against boxing great Floyd Mayweather.

The chances of a Conor McGregor vs. Manny Pacquiao boxing fight have certainly increased.

McGregor’s management team Paradigm Sports Management announced the signing of the WBA welterweight boxing champion earlier today. Paradigm — who McGregor is represented by and also has a stake in — will be working alongside Pacquiao’s existing team including business manager Arnold Vegafria, associate Ping Nepomuceno and attorney Brando Viernesto.

“We’re very excited to announce that Manny Pacquiao has signed with PSM for full service representation!” Paradigm tweeted. “Manny is one of the greatest boxers of all time & we look forward to working with Arnold, Ping and the rest of the team back in Manila to maximize his historic career. ??

In a press release, Pacquaio stated he was proud to be partnering up with Paradigm:

“I am proud to partner with Paradigm Sports Management and am excited for the opportunities that Audie Attar and PSM have to offer,” Pacquiao said. “One thing I want everyone to remember is to always think positively. Never think negatively; that is the beginning of your downfall. Everything is possible.”

McGregor has previously spoken of his interest in boxing Pacquiao in a lucrative superfight and last month claimed that an offer was on the table.

One thing is for sure — if both parties do want it at some point, it just got a lot easier.
