Throughout the first three months of this year, rumors have been circulating that former UFC heavyweight and WWE champion Brock Lesnar was returning to the Octagon for a third run in MMA.

Lesnar has been out of action since a wrestling-heavy decision win over Mark Hunt at July 2016’s UFC 200, a fight during which he tested positive for banned estrogen blocker clomiphene and was handed a one-year suspension by USADA, in addition to being sued by Hunt.

But that suspension has run out, and so will Lesnar’s WWE contract after April 8’s WrestleMania 34 from New Orleans, Louisiana. The timing of the events opens up a path for Lesnar to return to the octagon even though his athletic prime may be nearing its last legs, and indeed both the UFC and Lesnar’s camp have been none too subtle about their mutual desires to do business once again.

That lead to UFC President Dana White confirming that Lesnar was indeed returning to the UFC on this evening’s “UFC Tonight,” but didn’t know when or against whom:

“Yeah, Brock Lesnar’s coming back. I don’t know when, but yes he is.”

Lesnar was one of the promotion’s biggest draws ever during his time as UFC heavyweight champion from 2008-2010, and even though his reign as champ was cut short by a trying bout with diverticulitis, he is still one of the most recognizable names in MMA.

He appeared in top shape during his win over Hunt, but obviously, his controversial use of performance-enhancing drugs could be deemed the reason why the 40-year-old monster was in such momentous condition.

He’s been linked to fights with current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and recent title contender Francis Ngannou, both of which would be massive bouts certain to provide the much-needed shot in the arm that slumping UFC pay-per-view numbers need.

Who should Lesnar fight in his anticipated UFC return?

UFC Veteran Mark Hunt is looking for his next fight. It’s an interesting time for him right now as he is closing in on the end of his career and only has two fights left on his UFC contract.

He was last seen in the Octagon back in February when he lost by unanimous decision to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 221.

As a result of this loss, it ended his hopes of having another title shot. The belief is that Hunt will leave the promotion once his deal is up due to the fact of him suing the company.

Hunt has two names in mind for a potential fight this summer. He wants Francis Ngannou or Alexander Volkov.

“We’re looking to see if I can get Ngannou for August in Hawaii – that’d be great,” Hunt told Sporting News recently. “Ngannou would be good for me, or [Alexander] Volkov, who just beat Fabricio – if he’s still available.

“I’m just trying to get someone higher than me. I’ve got two fights left, so I’m seeing if I can get Ngannou. I don’t know if they’ve confirmed Hawaii, but it’d be a great match… see who shoots for the takedown first.

I fought a guy that was beneath me last time, so I want someone higher now,” Hunt said. “Even Werdum, I want that rematch, but Ngannou would be a better match. Even give me Blaydes again and I’ll have another shot at him.”

Ngannou is coming off a loss to heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic back in January at UFC 220 while Volkov is coming off a loss to light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

It should be noted that Blaydes and Alistair Overeem are expected to fight one another at UFC 225. However, a rematch with Werdum would be fitting at this point. If you recall, Werdum knocked out Hunt to claim the interim heavyweight title.

When it comes to establishing who MMA’s all-time hardest hitters are, nobody is better placed to make the call than the fighters who have had the misfortune to experience that punching power firsthand.

With that in mind, in this article, we’ll be going beyond just the facts and figures about who hits the hardest by taking on board the opinions of some of mixed martial arts biggest stars as they reveal from personal experience who has the heaviest hands in the sport.

Check out the 10 hardest-hitting fighters in MMA according to the fighters themselves.

Wanderlei Silva

In his heyday, Wanderlei Silva was arguably the most intimidating fighter in the sport, known for his berserker style of brawling that saw him demolish 27 opponents with strikes as he beat opponents from middleweight all the way through to heavyweight.

Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz has said that the hardest punch he ever felt was delivered by Silva, who, “threw an overhand right and caught me right on the chin,” during their fight at UFC 25. “It literally felt like the earth had been turned upside down.”

Another ex-UFC light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin also gives the nod to Silva after having a traumatic experience going up against him in training.

”Who hit me the hardest consistently was definitely Wanderlei,” Griffin said during a fan Q&A. “Sparring with him is a horrible idea – it takes years off your life. Don’t do it!”

Former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum can vouch for that, as he’s gone on record that the first time he sparred Silva he was flash-KO’d twice by him in quick succession despite being in top control at the time.

The granite-chinned Dan Henderson has also claimed that Silva was his toughest-ever opponent, having suffered the first loss of his career to him at PRIDE 12, while he went on to tell MMAJunkie that, “hardest hitter might go to Wanderlei also.”
