Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will make his highly-anticipated Octagon return this July, when he takes on No. 8-ranked Mark Hunt in the co-main event of UFC 200.

While Hunt will be rocking an Australian themed Reebok Kit on his walk down to the Octagon, it appears Lesnar will be representing Canada despite being born and raised in Webster, South Dakota.

MMA Junkie’s Chamatkar Sandhu Tweeted out a picture of the former NCAA Division I heavyweight champion’s Reebok Kit bellow:

Despite being American born and bred, Lesnar currently resides in Mayfield, Saskatchewan, Canada, where he has lived for several years with his wife Rena Greek.

Lesnar (5-3) won the UFC heavyweight championship back at UFC 91 in 2008, when he defeated Randy Couture in the second round of their main event meeting. ‘The Beast’ would go on to drop the title after being obliterated by a young Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 in 2010.

Lesnar’s next bout would see him being defeated by current title challenger Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 in 2011, marking the end of his four-year MMA career. Or so we thought.

Now Lesnar prepares to go out on a better note than his last Octagon appearance, as he looks to down the Australian knockout artist this July.

Hunt and Lesnar are set to throw down in the co-main event of UFC 200 live on pay-per-view (PPV), at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9, 2016.

Back in circa 2009 when Brock Lesnar was the UFC heavyweight champion and also their biggest draw, a rumored superfight with legendary former Pride FC boss Fedor Emelianenko was hands-down the biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) fight that could have been made.

The proposed showdown was even rumored to fill up Texas’ Cowboys Stadium, but it unfortunately never came to fruition. It wasn’t for lack of trying on the UFC’s part, however, as president Dana White reportedly met with Emelianenko and his M-1 Global management team at an undisclosed location to offer them multiple millions in order to battle ‘The Beast.’

But ‘The Last Emperor’ and his team saw White’s hard-charging style as disrespectful, and they found little need for his money. Emelianenko found his way to the Strikeforce cage, where much of his luster was tarnished when he suffered three straight losses to Fabricio Werdum, Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, and Dan Henderson, while Lesnar suffered a similarly unfortunate fate when diverticulitis sapped much of his prior power as he dropped the belt to Cain Velasquez before losing his last-ever UFC bout to title contender Alistair Overeem in late 2011.

Both illustrious heavyweights sort of faded off into the MMA sunset, so to say; with Emelianenko retiring and Lesnar heading for the lucrative pastures of his previous employers, the WWE, where he once again became champion as he had before ever battling it out in the Octagon.

So MMA’s ‘biggest’ fight that never was was seemingly buried in the growing mountain of rumored fights that never were; that is, until Emelianenko came out of retirement to continue crushing cans for Nobuyuki Sakakibara’s Rizin Fighting Federation and Lesnar was revealed to be returning for a supposed one-off against Mark Hunt at July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event from Las Vegas.

While a bout between the two past-prime fighters is still a far-off possibility and obviously wouldn’t hold the weight that it would have seven years ago, it is at least a possibility for ‘The Last Emperor,’ who, in class Fedor fashion, lent Russian site Sovsport.ru some short, cryptic words that perhaps he and Lesnar’s paths will indeed cross in the future:

“Brock is an interesting opponent. Maybe our paths will cross again.”

Short and sweet from the often robotic yet enigmatic Emelianenko, who has always done his talking in the ring or cage rather than with his mouth in the media. He’s long been rumored to be making his way to the Octagon, and those talks have understandably been ramped up after his recent return to fighting. But it’s only talk, and the possibility of a ‘Last Emperor’ showing in the UFC is still distant at best.

Regardless, the bout is still possible, which is a lot more than fans of the nostalgic Pride FC and UFC ‘Bring The Pain’ eras were able to say at this time last year. True, both warriors may be significantly past their fighting primes, but they’re also still undoubtedly two of the sport’s biggest names nonetheless.

In actuality, Emelianenko making his way to the UFC could be all talk as it has been for years. If it’s not and the UFC can somehow get both of these literal giants to sign on the dotted line, well, that’d be an opportunity too good to pass up.

The mixed martial arts (MMA) world was stunned when the UFC announced last weekend (June 4, 2016) that former heavyweight champion and current WWE wrestler Brock Lesnar would be making his return to the Octagon at July 9’s UFC 200 from The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The masses were even more surprised when Lesnar himself announced that he would be taking on No. 8-ranked slugger Mark Hunt in the co-main event of the blockbuster pay-per-view (PPV).

After nearly five years away from the sport, many had expected Lesnar to be booked against a lower-ranked opponent. Instead, however, he was thrown to the wolves, and will be facing off with perhaps the division’s most feared puncher. “The Super Samoan” possesses a decorated kickboxing background, and still has some gas left in the tank at age 42 as he’s compiled a winning streak that features back-to-back brutal knockouts.

With that being said, it’s understandable why many are picking Hunt to put Lesnar away at UFC 200. However, it’s also interesting to flip the script and look at the fight from another angle for a moment.

Let’s take a look at five reasons why Brock Lesnar just might destroy Mark Hunt next month.

Frank Mir Predicts Hunt Will Beat Lesnar: “Brock Doesn’t Like To Be Hit”

Ahead of his Octagon return against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in July, Brock Lesnar finds himself the focus of his UFC 100 foe Frank Mir’s latest pre-fight analysis.

According to the former UFC Heavyweight Champion, who handed Lesnar his first defeat inside the Octagon before losing to him in their highly-viewed rematch at UFC 100 in 2009, Hunt should be the favorite going into UFC 200 because of the fact that Lesnar doesn’t like to get hit.

During a recent episode of his Phone Booth Fighting podcast, Mir spoke about the Lesnar-Hunt fight at UFC 200.

“He doesn’t like to be hit,” Mir said of Lesnar. “Not that anybody likes to be hit, but Brock for whatever reason has shown much more of a dramatic response to the negativity of those shots. To the point where he’s not asleep, it isn’t like he got knocked out, he’s not getting dropped, but he just turns his face away from adversity. That’s a bad thing when fighting Mark Hunt, who again I think is one of the hardest punchers in the division.”

Mir continued, however, explaining that if he implements the right game plan, which because of the tools he has he very well could do, Lesnar does have a chance of pulling off the victory.

“If he is able to take Hunt down and control him, Hunt has been known to get tired on the ground and get fatigued,” Mir said. … “It really comes down to who is able to get their game plan.”

Regarding a potential third fight between he and Lesnar, Mir admits that Lesnar would probably accept the fight due to his competitive nature, and pointed out that it would still be a huge draw if the two were to meet again inside the Octagon.

“I think that’s he’s a competitive guy,” Mir said. “If he’s going to step in the Octagon, he’s gonna want to get paid as much as he can for that appearance. I mean, he’s closing in on 40. So why not a fight with me? A fight with me is going to be a much bigger payday, the two of us together is going to make much more of an impact than him versus anybody else. The storyline just isn’t going to be the same. The interest is not gonna be the same.”

“I think even two years from now when I come out of the suspension, a fight with Lesnar is still — if he still wants to come back again — is still a huge fight,” Mir said. “It’s massive because of what he brings to the table, what I bring to the table and the history we have together.”

When asked to give his official prediction on the Lesnar-Hunt fight at UFC 200, Frank Mir ended up going with the “Super Samoan.”

“I’m betting on Mark,” Mir said. “He’s been in there more consistently the last couple of years against really game opponents. I think that once their strengths match up against each other, it’s a hard takedown. You’ve never really seen anybody come through and just blast Mark onto his butt in the first minute or two of a match.”

Mark Hunt Explodes Over Brock Lesnar’s USADA Exemption: “It’s A Load Of Bullsh*t”

mark-hunt-presser

Apparently Mark Hunt isn’t overly thrilled with the fact that the UFC and USADA will be giving Brock Lesnar an exemption for his testing according to the policy.

As noted, USADA’s policy calls for retired fighters to be tested when they come back, however Lesnar will not have to do so.

“I don’t think that’s fair. I think it’s a load of bullsh*t, I think it’s rubbish,” Hunt told UFC FIGHT WEEK on Fox Sports in an exclusive interview. “I don’t think anyone should be exempt from testing. If they’re trying to clean the sport up — mixed martial arts — this is a bad way to do it. I don’t care who you are. It’s ridiculous.”

Hunt continued, “I don’t think it’s a great move. I think he’s juiced to the gills — and I still think I’m going to knock him out. So I don’t think that’s correct. I don’t think he should be allowed to get a four-month exemption otherwise everyone else should. Otherwise I should start juicing.”

A very honest Hunt elaborated.

“How are you going to clean the sport up doing that sh*t? It won’t happen. I don’t think it’s fair. I’ve already voiced my opinion to (UFC boss) Dana (White) about it but apparently he (Lesnar) has been getting tested but he’s probably been off a couple of cycles anyway.”

Hunt concluded, “Shucks. I don’t give a rats what you take. I’ll knock your face off, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll teach you for taking that sh*t anyway.”

Hunt vs. Lesnar is scheduled as the co-main event for UFC 200 on July 9, 2016 from the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
