Dana White targets a fight between UFC flyweight champion Henry Cejudo and Marlon Moraes for the vacant UFC bantamweight title.

The title is vacant due to TJ Dillashaw voluntarily relinquishing it due to a recent failed drug test showing up. Dillashaw had been suspended for one year and fined $10,000 by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) for failing a USADA drug test. The failed drug test came from his fight with Henry Cejudo.

White elaborated on his idea on Saturday night following the UFC Nashville event. This is where he hinted at his plans by throwing out Cejudo vs. Moraes for the title with Jussier Formiga and Joseph Benavidez serving as a backup in case either fighter can’t make the fight.

“They both want that fight really bad,” White told MMAJunkie. “It seems like a good fight to make with the whole Dillashaw thing now, and then you do (Formiga) versus Benavidez on the same card – anything goes wrong, one of them can step up and take the fight, and then the winner of that fight is the guaranteed No. 1 contender for the next (flyweight) shot.”

It makes sense as Cejudo is the latest fighter to beat Dillashaw while Moraes has emerged as the expected challenger for the bantamweight title. He’s fresh off a knockout win over Raphael Assuncao.

Marlon Moraes has been called out by one rising contender in the UFC bantamweight division. That star is Aljamain Sterling, who actually has a history with the former WSOF bantamweight champion.

Back at the UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Ortega event on December 9, 2017, at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, Sterling was supposed to fight Rani Yahya. However, Yahya was forced to pull out from the card due to injury and was replaced by Moraes, who beat Sterling by first round KO.

Sterling explained his position on why he wants this fight with Moraes during a recent interview with MMAJunkie. Not only due to their history but he believes the fight makes sense due to the rankings.

“It was a complete rookie mistake on my end,” Sterling said. “I don’t want to say it’s luck, but that wasn’t his intent was. I just happened to be doing something that was the worst thing I could possibly do in that moment in that exchange.

“He got his hand raised that night, but come this rematch, I truly believe I can stand with anyone in the world, and when the tough gets going, if I need to get the fight to the ground, I can always lean on my wrestling and my cardio and jiu-jitsu. Snatching necks and cashing checks.”

With the news of TJ Dillashaw failing a USADA drug test and voluntarily relinquishing the UFC bantamweight title, contenders are making their case known. Both Sterling and Moraes have been calling for a fight for the vacant UFC bantamweight title.

“I’m definitely throwing my hat in the mix,” he said. “This has been a long journey. This has been the culmination of everything I’ve worked so hard for. I’m back at the top, and I’m ready to keep climbing those ranks to get that UFC gold.”

Marlon Moraes is doing all he can not only inside of the Octagon but on social media in order to get a title shot.

As one of the top contenders in the bantamweight division, Moraes has a good chance at fighting for the title in the near future.

With the news of TJ Dillashaw failing a USADA drug test and voluntarily relinquishing the UFC bantamweight title, contenders are making their case known.

Moraes holds recent wins over top contenders Aljamain Sterling, Jimmie Rivera, and Raphael Assuncao. Thus, he thinks he’s near the front of the line for a title shot.

UFC flyweight champion Henry Cejudo is also trying to get into a fight that would see him compete for the vacant title. Should he win the strap, then he would become a two-division champion.

Moraes sent him a warning through the power of social media. In doing so, he also brought up Cejudo’s public pursuit of WWE star Nikki Bella from a few months back. He took to his official Twitter account where he wrote the following:

“Stay humble my friend take care of your business. I will take care of mine, or You’ll strike out with me worse than you did with that WWE girl #bantamweightdivision.”
