Bantamweight prospect ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley was quick to chime in after seeing his rival Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera suffer a decision defeat against former featherweight king Jose Aldo in the UFC Vegas 17 co-main event.

After an even first two rounds, Aldo was able to dominate the final stanza with his wrestling, riding the back of his opponent for the entire five minutes before being awarded 29/28 scorecards by all three judges.

The fight was Vera’s first since handing O’Malley the first loss of his career at UFC 252 back in August. For those that don’t remember, O’Malley ate a leg kick and never really recovered before Vera stopped him with ground strikes in the first round of their highly anticipated match-up.

Since then O’Malley has refused to accept defeat and even gone as far as declaring himself 12-0. Vera has attempted to distance himself from talks of a rematch with “cry baby” O’Malley.

So, it was no surprise when Vera suffered defeat O’Malley was ready to rub salt into the wounds of his former foe. ‘Suga’ took to Twitter to make a couple of posts in the aftermath of Vera’s decision loss – check them out below.

Jose Aldo

In the UFC Vegas 17 co-main event Jose Aldo goes in search of his first bantamweight win against #15 ranked Marlon Vera.

Round 1: They touch gloves and this fight is underway. Jose Aldo is pushing forward. Marlon Vera is on his toes and throwing low leg kicks. Aldo tries to swing big power punches but ‘Chito’ ducks under them and shoots in for the takedown. He has Aldo pushed up against the cage. Not a lot is happening right now. Both men are exchanging small shots but besides that its something of a stalemate. Aldo eventually reverses the position before separating. Aldo lands a beautiful body shot. And another! Vera throws a high kick, it blocked. Aldo rattles the body again. The former featherweight king follows it up with one of his patented leg kicks. Another shot to the body. Vera goes high with the kick again. Aldo uses the gap to rattle several punches before finishing with a leg kick before the first round ends.

Round 2: Vera more aggressive at the start of round two. He lands some nice shots before Aldo backs him up with a big swing towards the midsection. Aldo jumps in with a left hook that knocks Vera off balance. ‘Chito’ is hammering away to the legs with kicks and stomps. Aldo lands straight down the middle before following up with two body shots. Vera lands a nice spinning back fist before pushing the fight up against the fence. Once again it’s something of a stalemate against the fence. Vera tries for the trip but Aldo is savvy too it and manages to land a knee off the clinch. A brief return to the striking range before Vera closes it and looks to clinch and wrestle against the fence. ‘Chito’ lands some nice shots as they separate and the horn sounds to end round two.

Round 3: Vera comes flying out but Aldo uses the momentum to take his back. He’s trying to get this fight to the floor. Vera touches down and Aldo jumps up to secure the position. Vera is trying to shake him off but is unsuccessful. Aldo now has full control with the body triangle locked in. Lot’s of hand fighting right now as Aldo hunts for that choke finish and Vera battles to stop it. The body triangle remains locked on as round three ticks away. ‘Chito’ stands up with pure power but Aldo still has the back and shows no sign of letting it go. The fight falls back to the mat. Vera cannot get out of this position. He’s hitting Aldo with short shots but they aren’t really meaningful. Aldo maintains the position until the final horn sounds.

LowKick MMA will be bringing you UFC Vegas 17: Thompson vs. Neal Results throughout the night (Sat. 19th. December 2020) from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the promotion’s final event of the year, originally slated to take co-main event status, a welterweight pairing of two-time title challenger, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and rising contender, Geoff ‘Handz of Steel’ Neal round out 2020 for the organization in a five-round headliner.

Making his first Octagon appearance since UFC 244 in November of last year ar Madison Square Garden, Thompson looks to improve on an impressive unanimous decision win over Vicente Luque over three frames, as he tackles fellow striking ace, Fortis MMA staple, Neal.

It’s a battle of two of the most technical strikers at 170-pounds today, with Wonderboy’s karate-bouncing style pitted opposite a traditional kickboxing flow of Sayif Saud product, Neal — who has knocked back five contenders in a row on his way to tonight’s first main event outing.

Neal, an alum of Dana White’s Contender Series most recently made an Octagon walk at UFC 245 in December last, stopping the outspoken, ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry with a high-kick followed by strikes in the opening-round. It’s a battle of striking styles tonight, with the victor emerging on the cusp of a potential title-eliminator next.

Promoted to the co-headliner as a result of Thompson and Neal’s reworked pairing, former UFC feathrweight kingpin, Jose Aldo ‘Jr.’ looks to snap a three-fight slide and nab his first win at bantamweight since his division move at the end of last year. Dropping a close split decision loss to one-time title challenger, ‘Magic’ Marlon Moraes, Aldo still competed for undisputed vacant bantamweight spoils against Petr ‘No Mercy’ Yan in July at UFC 251, dropping a late ground-and-pound loss.

Standing across from the Manaus favourite is streaking bantamweight contender, Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. A winner of six-straight at 135-pounds, the Ecuadorian finisher last featured at UFC 252 in August in another co-main event slot, finishing ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley late in the opening-round with strikes, after he connected with a damaging calf kick which exacerbated a prior leg injury.
