An exciting middleweight match-up between surging contender Marvin Vettori and former Strikeforce champion Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza has been added to UFC 256 on December 12 according to reports.

Vettori was rumoured to be facing off against Omari Ahkmedov on the card but that fight was never officially confirmed by the UFC. According to Emanuele Lochner – Vettor’s personal trainer – Ahkmedov is out and has been replaced by long-time contender ‘Jacare’. Lochner announced the news on announced on his The Scramble MMA SHOW.

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz seemed to confirmed the match-up on social media yesterday. Abdelaziz posted the below photoshopped image showing Vettori alongside an alligator, the vicious predator Souza takes his nickname from.

Vettori is on a three-fight winning streak after victories over Cezar Ferreira, Andrew Sanchez and Karl Roberson. The Italian prospect is currently ranked #14 at middleweight. He has been vocally pursuing the biggest and best fighters at 185lbs and has now apparently landed a fight against one of the best to ever do it at the weight.

‘Jacare’ was supposed to face off against Uriah Hall at UFC 249 earlier this year. Unfortunately, the Brazilian tested positive for the coronavirus and that fight was scrapped. Souza is on riding a two-fight losing streak the first of his professional career. The 40-year-old having dropped a decision to Jack Hermansson before stepping up to light-heavyweight and being edged out by the Jan Blachowicz who has since become 205lb champion. ‘Jacare’ will be looking to return to the win column and enter middleweight title contention again by beating Vettori in December.

Who wins at UFC 256? Marvin Vettori or ‘Jacare’?

UFC Middleweight Marvin Vettori has teased having a fight after being unable to secure an opponent over the past few months.

Vettori shared a message to his twitter simply stating “Ohhh we got something!! Pumped for this one!!”.

While there has been no fight announcement or clues as to a potential opponent Vettori had been taking aim at the former champion Chris Weidman since his return to the division saw him emerge victorious over Omari Akhmedov in August.

Since then the Middleweight has been eyeing this matchup tweet most recently on September 15.

“I never seen anybody running like this guy @chrisweidmanI get behind him I swear he would outrun Usain Bolt. This guy said he is back, want to do this and that in the division and in reality he is willing to wait for a year until the offer him somebody else. Delusional”

While this seemed to be Vettori’s preferred opponent he appeared to be open to all options tweeting to UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard as well as his manager Ali Abdelaziz “I’m getting tired of waiting, this is getting stupid. Literally anyone, 5-6 weeks. Let’s Go.”

After this tweet, there seemed an interested party to face Vettori coming in fellow Middleweight Impa Kasanganay respectfully calling for the fight over twitter. After seeing this Vettori shared that he would also be open to the fight should that be what the UFC wanted.

“If they want this fight I’m fine with fighting you @kingimpa but don’t play the nice guy card because you are clearly try to jump steps here. Either way, if @ufc wants it now here you get it but like I told you be careful what you wish for @Mickmaynard2 @AliAbdelaziz00

Currently, it is unclear who will be facing Vettori or if he has a set date for the matchup, however, if this tweet is any indication we can expect to see the Middleweight back in the cage sometime soon.

Marvin Vettori wants Chris Weidman next.

Weidman snapped a two-fight losing streak and returned to the win column following a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over Omari Akhmedov in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 6 last night.

The former middleweight champion declared soon after that he was back and ready to take on the top fighters in the 185-pound division.

Some observers, however, believe Weidman should continue to face the lower-ranked fighters and further build his confidence up — especially as he had a poor second round where he clearly gassed out against Akhmedov.

Vettori Wants To Whip Weidman’s Boring Ass

Vettori would count as such a fighter as he notably called the American out on social media.

“Weidman looked horrible tonight. He’s a former champion let me whip his boring ass next. Guarantee you he will hide like all the other guys. Me against @chrisweidman needs to happen.

“I swear I’ll have weidman begging me for air by the 2nd. Let’s book this!”

Vettori is on a three-fight winning streak after victories over Cezar Ferreira, Andrew Sanchez and Karl Roberson.

With Weidman highly likely to be ranked in the middleweight top 15, it would certainly be a fight that makes sense for the Italian.

The only question is if Weidman would be reciprocative.

What do you think of a potential Weidman vs. Vettori fight?
