Colby Covington delivered a scorching response to Matt Brown’s comments that ‘Chaos’ isn’t built for a long-term career in combat sports.

After months of speculation, Covington finally has a date locked down for his third shot at UFC gold. The outspoken welterweight gatekeeper will once again step into the main event spotlight as he is set to challenge Leon Edwards for the welterweight world championship this December at UFC 296.

It will be Covington’s first fight in well over a year and, according to Matt Brown, could be the last time ‘Chaos’ competes in the Octagon.

“I have a hard time believing he’s going to continue fighting if he loses this fight, to be honest,” Brown said of Covington on a recent episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer. “He just doesn’t come across as that kind of guy to me. He hasn’t fought for two years. He’s not built like me, where I love fighting, and if I lost 10 in a row, I’d still want to fight. He’s the kind of guy where I think he’s in there to get paid, get his money, stir up as much sh*t as he can, and get out.

Covington Makes Things Personal with Matt Brown

Getting wind of the comments, Colby Covington didn’t hold back in his response, going so low as to bring up Matt Brown’s history with addiction.

“Matt Brown or whatever his name is, you know, he’d be in a nicer house and have more money in the bank if he didn’t spend it all on drugs,” Covington told Submission Radio. “Matt, don’t hate me, hate the fact that you live in trailer trash and it’s the man in the mirror. I made good decisions in my life. I’m at this point in my career because I had discipline, self-control. Something you know nothing about because you’re a drug addict. So, don’t be mad that I have all this money, I’ve done all these great things. You live in a trailer, yeah. You married trailer trash, yeah. I’m married to the game, motherf*cker.”

Matt Brown has been very open in regard to his past drug abuse, revealing that he was clinically dead for over a minute following a heroin overdose. The incident was an eye-opening moment for Brown who used his new lease on life to get clean and put his focus on martial arts.

“He must have got hit in the head too hard from my friend Miguel Baeza,” Covington continued. “He knocked him senseless. I knew that Matt was dumb, but I didn’t know he was that dumb. But, it just so happens my buddy Miguel Baeza knocked him in another dimension. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s saying this and that. Dude, he needs to go get some more money from his next fight so he can spend it on drugs again.”

Let’s just say if Matt Brown (24-19 MMA) was his own match maker, he’d do the unthinkable.

Earlier this month, the 42-year-old was able to make some history at UFC Charlotte. Brown entered the Octagon for the 30th time against fellow welterweight veteran, Court McGee (21-12 MMA).

‘The Immortal’ produced a clean performance, scoring a one-punch knockout finish in round one.

His knockout win against McGee tied UFC heavyweight contender, Derrick Lewis ( MMA), for the all-time knockout record in the UFC at 13.

Even at 42, Matt Brown doesn’t look like he’s slowing down any time soon as he looks to get right back into the octagon to chase history.

Although it may sound insane, the man from Ohio believes he has found the perfect matchup to help him break the UFC’s knockout record. However, it is still unclear who the UFC will realistically pair him with next.”

Matt Brown wants Derrick Lewis at Heavyweight to determine UFC record

During a recent interview on Michael Bisping’s ‘Believe You Me‘, Brown revealed his plan to break the UFC knockout record and who the perfect dance partner would be.

“For my next fight, what I would really like, and I highly doubt it’s gonna happen, but I would love to fight Derrick Lewis. I’d love to go up to Heavyweight. Bro, you’re in, right,” Brown debated.

“This would be the funnest fight ever. For the KO record. It’s winnable. It’s certainly winnable for him. Like, if I get touched, I’m f—king going to the hospital that night, but he’s got to touch me, bro. Heavyweights, it’s harder for them to hit you, man. You can dodge their punches pretty well. They have a hard time dealing with us. I would love that challenge. I would get on my knees and beg Dana for that,” Matt Brown continued.

Unfortunately for Brown, he would have to at least until the end of the year for any hopes of that fight materialising, with Derrick Lewis (26-11 MMA) already being booked to fight Marcos Rogerio de Lima (21-8-1 MMA) at UFC 291 on July 29th

In spite of that, with the BMF belt returning at UFC 291 anything is possible. So as ridiculous as the idea may seem, I wouldn’t be surprised if a matchup like this happens down the line.

Regardless, Matt Brown’s recent performance and tying the UFC’s knockout record was a momentous moment in his career.

“Honestly, the only cool thing about it is I feel like I’ve been doing this a long time, I’ve put a lot into this and I feel like I’m way better than I’ve even achieved,” Brown explained.

“I feel like I’ve underachieved and I could have done a lot more. I made a lot of mistakes and a lot of things. So when I tied that record with Derrick Lewis, I felt I got a lot of recognition that I felt was kind of lost and that I felt I’ve deserved for a long time. But you have to go earn it. You don’t really get what you deserve, you get what you earn. I feel like I went out and finally earned it.”

Conor McGregor labels Matt Brown heroin addict in nasty dig at prior overdose UFC

Continuing to rumble on in their newfound rivalry, former undisputed duel-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has labelled veteran welterweight contender, Matt Brown a “heroin addict” – in a jab aimed at the Ohio native’s prior substance abuse issues.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the UFC banner, has been sidelined from the Octagon since fracturing his left tibia and fibula against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in July 2021.

Expected to make his Octagon comeback before the close of this year in a welterweight fight against former lightweight title challenger, Michael Chandler, McGregor appeared to take notice of the above-mentioned, Brown’s recent record-setting KO win over Court McGee at UFC Fight Night Charlotte earlier this month.

With both strikers hunting the outright UFC knockout rate record, Brown challenged McGregor to a fight in his comeback outing, which the Dubliner in turn, labelled as “woeful”.

Subsequently, Brown claimed that McGregor had lost a lot of the ability which led him to duel-weight champion status, pointing to apparent drug use and alcohol abuse from the Crumlin native during his time away from active competition

Conor McGregor and Matt Brown share multiple barbs on social media

And taking aim at the veteran on his official social media this Tuesday afternoon, McGregor poked at Brown’s former substance abuse issues, as well as mocking his high kick KO loss to common-foe, Donald Cerrone back in 2016.

“Matt Brown, heroin addict,” Conor McGregor tweeted, in a now-deleted post.

“Y’all wanna see a dead body?” Conor McGregor tweeted, accompanied by footage of Matt Brown’s loss to Donald Cerrone at UFC 206.

In response, Brown claimed that if he searched, he could likely find countless images and videos of McGregor “getting his face smashed”.

“This guy (Conor McGregor) woke up, did a bump, and started tweeting,” Matt Brown tweeted at Conor McGregor. “I love it. I don’t know how to post gifs and sh*t, wouldn’t be hard to find one of him getting his face smashed lol.”

Matt Brown hits out at Conor McGregor you see him drinking or coked up bum UFC

Recently calling for a fight with former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor in his pursuit of the overall promotional knockout record, veteran welterweight contender, Matt Brown has referred to the Dubliner as a “bum” – accusing him of drug use to boot.

Brown, who most recently featured at UFC on ABC 4 earlier this month, managed to tie heavyweight veteran, Derrick Lewis as the most prolific knockout artist in the entire history of the promotion, landing a stunning walk-off KO win against Cout McGee.

Noting his intentions to return to the Octagon in search of an outlying knockout to separate him from the chasing pack, Brown’s victory appeared to catch the attention of ex-two-weight champion, McGregor – with the Dubliner claiming he would set the record himself before calling time on his own professional career

Offering to fight the 34-year-old in search of the record, Brown’s call out of McGregor was labelled as “woeful” – with the Crumlin striker quickly turning down the proposed matchup.

Matt Brown claims nowadays, Conor McGregor is simply a “nobody”

Receiving the wrath of the fan-favorite KO artist, Brown, McGregor was labelled a “bum” by the Ohio native, who questioned apparent alcohol and drug abuse from the Dublin striker.

“With Conor (McGregor), I just want the red panty night right?” Matt Brown said on the Believe You Me podcast. “I mean, he’s a nobody, to be honest – in my opinion. I mean, he was amazing and I give him all the props for everything he did. At this point, he’s a bum. Conor, like he lost, what, four of his last five [fights], right? And he hasn’t f*cking done nothing.”

“Like, everything you see [now] is him drinking or getting coked up or, you know, he’s juiced out of his mind,” Matt Brown explained. “That’s a f*cking bum life to me. All that money don’t make you ‘not’ a bum.”
