Dana White Claims Dan Henderson Turned Down a Shogun Rematch, Is Promptly Pwned by Hendo

(That moment you realize you are a fraction of the man Dan Henderson is.)

Few, if any, will ever be able to forget Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua’s epic battle at UFC 139. It was like that time you watched your dad and your friend’s dad argue over a garden hose at your local pub when you were 12, an argument that quickly devolved into chair throwing, bottle smashing, and frequent use of the “n-word” despite the fact that both participants were white. You and your friend would never be the same again, but to be fair, his dad did say he would return the hose over a week ago, so fuck him.

Now swap your friend’s dad/Shogun with Dana White, and your dad with Dan Henderson, and you’ve pretty much got the gist of these two’s ongoing series of misunderstandings. They’ve butted heads over money before, but now it seems they’ve moved into the territory of straight up verbal warfare. At yesterday’s Calgary press conference, White informed Mauro Ranallo that he had attempted to secure a rematch between Henderson and Rua, but was met with firm opposition by the inventor of the H-bomb:

Yeah, I was trying to put together Dan Henderson vs. Shogun II and Henderson doesn’t want to do the fight. Henderson wants to wait for the winner of either Jonny “Bones” Jones or Anderson Silva. He wants Anderson Silva, if Silva wins, he will make that cut. Otherwise, he wants to fight the winner of Rashad and Jones.

After hearing the above snippet, Henderson took to his Twitter account to respond, where he promptly slayed DW in less than ten words.

Join us after the jump for those ten words.

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen, the quickest way possible to piss off your boss, like a boss. If this response had a movie equivalent, it would be How to Lose a Job in Ten Words. And yet, it’s hard to deny what Hendo’s text is getting at. Dana White has led the MMA media astray on several occasions, only to pull the rug out from underneath us when the opportunity struck. You remember that whole Kimbo Slice situation? How about the fact that he was urging Wanderlei Silva to retire weeks before making him a coach on TUF: Brazil? All we’re saying is, Dana’s word is not exactly set in stone. Just ask Paul Daley. Or Miguel Torres.

But considering that Hendo has already turned down a rematch with Lil’ Nog in order to get the next shot at Anderson Silva or Jon Jones, it’s not like Dana’s accusation is out of left field either. And, let’s be honest, Hendo was definitely slowing down in the latter rounds of his UFC 139 fight with Rua, so maybe that has something to do with it. But far be it from us to call our fake dad a liar. Especially when he helped this country win the Revolutionary War.

What say you, Potato Nation? Do you think Hendo is worried a rematch with Shogun could cost him a title shot? Or is DW blowing smoke up our collective asses again?

Rampage Jackson Has "Something to Prove" Against Shogun Rua

While Quinton “Rampage” Jackson might be opposed to performing one last time in the Octagon, it isn’t to say he won’t be motivated when the time comes to face Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

The former PRIDE FC stars are expected to meet later this year after Jackson is cleared from having knee surgery, an injury he suffered in training prior to his bout against Ryan Bader at UFC 144.

After requesting a matchup with a striker, the UFC not only granted him one more fight, but also against Rua, a bout which Jackson has long desired.

“Me wanting to rematch Shogun is nothing personal. Shogun coming up, he was the best back then and I knew I could beat him but it’s just unfortunate that I couldn’t get my ankle (healed),” Jackson told MMA HEAT. “I just want to get that fight back.”

Rua was the last man to knockout Jackson while competing in PRIDE FC in 2005.

Jackson is recently coming off two back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. Although his recent performances have been disappointing to say the least, a rematch with Rua should likely boost his confidence.

Jackson’s knee surgery has postponed the bout momentarily, but he said that he will be completely healthy and promises to put on an exciting performance against the Brazilian.

“I got something to prove to Shogun. I don’t care if I’m just coming off of knee surgery and stuff like that, I’m going to give Shogun a run for his money,” he said. “Shogun better train pretty hard for this because I know how to train hard.”

The feud between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former Greg Jackson MMA teammate Rashad Evans has seemingly reached epic proportions on Friday night.

“Suga” took to Twitter to toss a very interesting insult Jones’ way:

However, before anyone gets the wrong idea, Bloody Elbow has since reported that the photo is actually of a fan from a Chris Brown concert who just happens to have an awfully strong resemblance to the youngest champion in UFC history.

In a UFC 145 pre-fight interview, Jones said that “jealousy fuels Rashad” and he “can’t wait to put him out of his misery.”

The two former friends haven’t gotten along since Jones won the light heavyweight title from Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128 and there is plenty of time for the bad blood to brew before they fight for 12 pounds of gold at UFC 145 on April 21st.

Rampage vs. Shogun Rematch Delayed as Quinton Jackson Faces Double Knee-Surgery

(“Also? I think my nuts be all hyperextended and shit.”)

In today’s installment of “God damn it, Rampage,” the PRIDE fanboy wet dream rematch between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has been canned just as quickly as it was announced, due to Jackson needing surgery on both of his knees. As Jackson tweeted (and keep in mind that “2” = “to”):

2 keep it real, the Shogun fight will have 2 wait,I just found out that I have 2 get surgery on both knees, but I heal fast don’t trip…John Jones fucked the left knee,n my sparing partner @antiheromma fucked the right 1,thanks guy!! But I’m not worried I got the best docs

Surgery? Just rub some testosterone on those creaky knees and get back in the game, homey! There’s no current timetable for Jackson’s recovery and return, but it’s certainly bad timing for Rampage to be dealing with such a major procedure before his final fight with the UFC. As Shogun could tell you himself, your first fight back after knee surgery doesn’t always go so well.

Quinton Jackson to Face Mauricio Rua in UFC Farewell Fight

(The calm before the soccer kicks.)

Quinton Jackson will be getting his wish to leave the UFC — but not before fulfilling the final fight on his contract. It was announced on last night’s episode of UFC Tonight that Jackson will be facing Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at an event to be named later. A follow-up statement on UFC.com described Jackson as “disgruntled,” and confirmed that the bout is the last of Jackson’s UFC contract and that he and the UFC are expected to part ways afterwards.

Jackson and Rua’s upcoming meeting will be a rematch of their PRIDE Total Elimination 2005 fight, which Shogun won by vicious first-round knockout. Jackson has lobbied for a rematch ever since, and Rua recently expressed interest in the matchup as well. Rua most recently competed at UFC 139, losing a decision to Dan Henderson in what was widely considered to be the 2011 Fight of the Year, while Jackson is riding the first two-fight losing streak of his career, with losses to Jon Jones and Ryan Bader.

Rampage to Face Shogun in Final UFC Fight

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (32-10) has been out-spoken on the UFC and their matchmaking of him and his recent opponents, but the former light heavyweight champion will get a much-wanted fight against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (20-6) for his final fight in the Octagon.

UFC president Dana White announced the decision on UFC Tonight, just a few weeks after Jackson’s lackluster defeat against Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader at UFC 144.

Before fighting Bader, Jackson suffered a knee injury that kept him from getting in his best shape during training.

His lack of training and conditioning showed before and during the fight. After coming in over-weight, Jackson was easily out-wrestled for three rounds before losing a unanimous decision in front of a favorable Japanese crowd.

Following the fight, Jackson took to twitter to give his position on not wanting to fight in the UFC anymore. White tweeted that he had one fight left and had to take that bout before he was allowed to leave.

The loss to Bader was his second loss back-to-back with the other coming against reigning champion Jon “Bones” Jones at UFC 135. Many fans began questioning where his motivation was after the loss, but the 33-year-old called out “Shogun” for a rematch.

Rua defeated Jackson in brutal fashion at Pride Total Elimination 2005. The Brazilian muay-thai specialist went on to win the tournament before becoming a UFC champion himself in 2010. Losses against Jones and Dan Henderson have Rua also looking for redemption in the 205 pound division.
