UFC President Dana White knows what could be at stake for Conor McGregor in his upcoming fight against Floyd Mayweather.

“Listen, if McGregor knocks him out he’ll be the biggest star in sports ever,” White said, per Damon Martin of Fox Sports.

The highly anticipated boxing match is set for Aug. 26.

McGregor is a significant underdog in his first professional boxing match against the 49-0 Mayweather, after transitioning from a career in UFC. According to Odds Shark, he is plus-375 to win, meaning a $100 wager nets $375 in winnings.

However, the odds have dropped since the announcement with many bettors putting money on McGregor, per David Purdum of ESPN.

With 18 of his 21 UFC wins coming by knockout, the Irish star has a chance to pull off the massive upset over one of the best boxers in history.

Considering ESPN recently ranked McGregor as the No. 25 most famous athlete in the world, a win in his biggest bout to date would certainly put him near the top of the list as White predicts.

Since Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. officially agreed to a boxing match on Aug. 26, bettors have been putting their money on the UFC lightweight champion.

Per ESPN.com’s David Purdum, odds for Mayweather have dropped from minus-1,100 to minus-600 because “books were flooded by small bets on McGregor” since the bout was announced Wednesday.

While McGregor is drawing more of the betting action by volume, Purdum did note the biggest bets were coming in for Mayweather.

“The bets on Mayweather, however few and far between, have typically been larger than the bets on McGregor,” he wrote. “The Westgate SuperBook took a $50,000 bet on Mayweather on May 30, two weeks before the fight was made official, and CG Technology took a $45,000 bet on Mayweather on Thursday.”

OddsShark lists McGregor as the underdog with 4-1 odds. This will mark his first-ever boxing match after spending his entire professional career, dating back to 2008, in mixed martial arts

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor may be united in a venue fight before they ever fight each other.

On Saturday, TMZ Sports wrote the Aug. 26 date for the much-anticipated fight may present a conflict with Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league. TMZ noted UFC President Dana White said the bout will occur in T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but the BIG3 championship game is already booked and scheduled at the arena that night.

According to TMZ’s sources, “there are plans in motion to move BIG3 to the nearby MGM Grand Garden Arena.”

While that may be the case, the BIG3 didn’t back down from the scheduled title game when it tweeted an image of the arena with the date and its logo on the exterior:

There is plenty of star power and intrigue with the new BIG3 league, but the showdown between McGregor and Mayweather has the chance to be the sporting event of the summer. What’s more, boxing is so often associated with Las Vegas, with many of the sport’s biggest events taking place in marquee venues.

T-Mobile Arena just opened last year and may have the opportunity to host Mayweather’s 50th win in 50 tries in a fight that also features the intrigue of one of the biggest MMA stars in the world.

That, along with TMZ’s sources, suggest Ice Cube and the BIG3 may be moving down the Las Vegas strip to the MGM Grand Arena.

For the first time since Floyd Mayweather Jr. confirmed the Aug. 26 superfight versus Conor McGregor, Money commented on the highly anticipated bout.

As seen in the following video courtesy of Black Sports Online, on the red carpet at Wednesday’s All Eyez on Me premiere, Mayweather expressed excitement for the upcoming fight:

“People all around the world demanded this fight, so I had to give the people what they wanted to see,” Mayweather said. “They asked for this fight. I was retired, but they wanted me back, and I’m back.”

Per ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael, UFC President Dana White told SportsCenter the fight will take place in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena and air on Showtime pay-per-view.

When asked about the negotiations, Mayweather would only say that both sides were pleased with the way things went down: “Both parties are very happy. He’s very happy, I’m very happy, and I can’t wait.”

Mayweather opted not to talk any trash to McGregor despite the fact that he largely built his career with verbal sparring, and he closed by calling McGregor a “hell of a competitor.”

It didn’t take McGregor long to prod Mayweather, though, as he tweeted a photo of himself and Floyd Mayweather Sr. after the fight was announced:

The 40-year-old Mayweather has been retired since beating Andre Berto in September 2015 and improving his career record to 49-0.

Despite that, he still has a significant upper hand since McGregor has never had a professional boxing match.

According to OddsShark, Mayweather is a -600 (17-100) favorite, while McGregor is a +400 (4-1) underdog.

Showtime’s announcing team for the Aug. 26 superfight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor has been finalized.

According to Sporting News’ Michael McCarthy, Showtime will use its regular team of boxing announcers, led by play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo and color commentators Al Bernstein and Paul Malignaggi. Brian Custer has been tabbed as the studio host, while Jim Gray will be the ringside reporter at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Steve Farhood rounds out Showtime’s team as the broadcast’s unofficial scorer.

Showtime spokesman Chris DeBlasio also told McCarthy the network will enlist special guest commentators to chime in during the broadcast.

A price has yet to be set for the pay-per-view.

However, MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani noted during a conference call Wednesday that UFC president Dana White’s answer to a question about the pay-perview cost suggested the final number could come in somewhere around the $100 HBO and Showtime charged for the 2015 fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
