Melvin Guillard will face Jim Miller next. The main event is set for the first UFC fight card to be televised on FX: Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller.

The UFC announced on Twitter Thursday evening that a lightweight battle between Guillard and Miller will be the main event of the FX card, which will represent the promotion’s debut on its new basic cable home. Beginning in 2012 FX will carry much of the programming that had previously appeared on Spike TV, including Fight Night events and The Ultimate Fighter.

Guillard and Miller were both thought to be closing in on lightweight title contention this year, although both of them lost their most recent fights: Guillard was submitted by Joe Lauzon in October, while Miller lost a unanimous decision to Ben Henderson in August. For the winner of the Guillard-Miller fight, a victory will represent a big step toward getting back into lightweight title contention.

The UFC’s tweet said that Guillard vs. Miller will be a three-round fight. It’s not clear whether main events on FX cards will generally be three or five rounds going forward. The UFC has indicated that future main events will be five-round fights regardless of whether or not a title is on the line.

The UFC on FX card is expected to take place on January 20 in Nashville, Tennessee. Other fights planned for the card include Charles Oliveira vs. Robert Peralta, Josh Neer vs. Duane Ludwig and Pat Barry vs. Christian Morecraft.

Lauzon/Pettis Booked for UFC 144, Poirier/Koch for 143

(A classic battle of style vs. SUBstance.)

Fresh off his upset Submission of the Night victory over Melvin Guillard at UFC 136, Joe Lauzon was quick to call out former WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, who scored a decision victory over Jeremy Stephens at the same event. Well it looks like he’ll be getting his wish, as the two have been booked to lock horns at UFC 144, in what could easily be a Fight of the Night match-up. Prior to their 136 victories, Lauzon scored a quick and nasty kimura victory over Kurt Warburton at UFC Live 4 whereas Pettis was wrestlefucked into oblivion by Clay Guida at the TUF 13 Finale in June. This is the point where I’d normally say that a victory here would rocket either man near the top of the lightweight ladder, but considering that the division is currently more crowded than a So-Cal Quinceanera, let’s just say that a victory here will keep either man…from losing.

In other fight booking news, a battle between top featherweight contenders Dustin Poirier and Eric Koch has been set for UFC 143 in February, which also features the probable welterweight number 1 contender match between Josh Koscheck and Carlos Condit. Poirier most recently scored a brilliant submission via D’arce over Pablo Garza at the inaugural UFC on FOX card. Koch, on the other hand, is coming off a gritty decision victory over TUF 13 winner/existential caveman Jonathan Brookins in Brookins’ featherweight debut at UFC Fight Night 25. Depending on the outcome of the upcoming Aldo/Mendes clash at UFC 142, we could easily be looking at the next challenger to the title right here.

You know the deal, who takes these babies?

Your Daily Dose of Danavlog: UFC 137 Edition

Dana White’s video blogs, though sporadic, have taken an increasingly interesting turn in that they are now largely made up of post-fight footage from UFC events rather than the day-to-day extravagance that is “The Baldfather’s” life. As with his UFC 136 vlog, Dana gives us a brief introduction and wishes us a happy Halloween before throwing us behind the scenes of UFC 136 to witness the agony of defeat firsthand.

Particularly tough to watch is that of Melvin Guillard, who, after having his lightweight title aspirations choked out of him by Joe Lauzon, completely loses his shit backstage, throwing a chair across the room before breaking down on his hands and knees as the doctor’s try to attend to him. Even Joe Warren had to look away.

Join us after the jump for some other musings from this week’s vlog:

Some notes:

Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia are two of the coolest dudes in the sport, at least when around one another.

Brian Stann sweats better interview answers than most fighters can dream up in their lives.

Chael Sonnen is in fact capable of showing affection to anyone but himself.

-It never gets any easier seeing that look on Ken-Flo’s face following a title fight.

Anderson Silva wants a different belt for every time he defends it, because why not? He also is a follower of the Ron Swanson/Tiger Woods power outfit theory.

Gray Maynard is a man of very few words.

Jon Jones is a Frankie Edgar fan.

After a two-fight stint in the UFC’s featherweight division, former lightweight and featherweight title challenger Kenny Florian will return to the 155 pound division, according to the former TUF 1 finalist’s twitter.

In a recent interview with the Boston Herald, Florian spoke about his return to the cage and declined any rumors on retirement after his loss to Jose Aldo at UFC 136.

“I still love this sport tremendously and still want to be a part of it,” Florian said. “I know myself and it’s not even just being competitive, but it’s just being there learning and competing. There’s still very much a fire burning there so I’m going to do it.”

“I don’t like making any limits on how many fights or anything like that,” he continued. “I’m still going to take it one fight at a time. I know I’ve still got several good fights in me. I could fight for the next three years. I could fight maybe another couple of fights. I don’t know. I’m going to take it how I feel in training, how I feel fight after fight and I’m just going to take it like that.”

These are five possible opponents Florian could face in his lightweight return.
