Michael Chiesa has filed a civil lawsuit against former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor after the Irish superstar started a melee in Brooklyn, New York, earlier this year.

It was reported by TMZ that the UFC lightweight star has filed a civil lawsuit against McGregor as he allegedly suffered damages due to McGregor’s infamous bus attack. The lawsuit states that Chiesa suffered “serious personal, economic, and other injury,” as well as “severe emotional distress, mental trauma, and/or bodily harm.”

It also accuses McGregor of negligence, assault, battery and infliction of emotional distress. What’s interesting is the fact that Chiesa has listed Barclays Center as a defendant, alleging the facility failed to take “proper security measures to protect the plaintiff and other patrons.” The lawsuit was filed on Monday in Brooklyn.

According to court documents, it doesn’t state exactly how much money Chiesa is looking to get but did note that he wants relief for compensation lost, including “lost opportunities.”

Back in April during fight week of the UFC 223 pay-per-view event, McGregor and several members of his entourage decided to fly from Ireland to Brooklyn, New York to get revenge on current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. It all started once the UFC lightweight champion got into an argument with McGregor’s training partner, Artem Lobov, earlier that week.

This led to McGregor attacking the fighter bus that had Nurmagomedov on and he was arrested as a result, then was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief.

All felony counts were dismissed as McGregor accepted the deal that is a guilty of disorderly conduct charge, which will see him do five days of community service, anger management classes and three orders of protection against Ray Borg, Jason Ledvetter, and Chiesa.

Chiesa and Anthony Pettis were slated to fight each other at the UFC 223 pay-per-view event in April in Brooklyn, NY. However, the bout got scrapped once Chiesa suffered facial lacerations due to this bus attack. They did the fight at the UFC 226 event where Chiesa lost by submission.

Michael Chiesa: Conor McGregor Cost Me A Potential Title Shot

Chiesa says McGregor’s antics days before UFC 223 cost him a potential title shot…

UFC lightweight Michael Chiesa was one of several fighters who were injured during Conor McGregor’s wild bus attack just days before UFC 223. “The Notorious” and his band of goons flew to New York City and showed up at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to confront Khabib Nurmagomedov, but Chiesa got caught in the crossfire.

The cuts to Chiesa’s face were so severe that he was pulled from his fight against former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, a win over whom would have placed him right at the top of the division. Chiesa vented on Thursday about the opportunities that McGregor’s antics cost him:

“I don’t really got a lot to say to the guy. I lost a title shot. I have proof. I was the highest-ranked guy on the card. I would have stepped in to fight Khabib at the drop of a dime. I’ve always loved the fight with Khabib. Bless his heart, he’s a cool ass guy. But this is a sport and I’ve always liked the way I matched up against him and I got f*cked out of that opportunity. I don’t really have too many kind things to say to [McGregor]. You work your whole life for those kinds of opportunities. Do I want mine on short order? No, I’d love a training camp. Like I said, if they walk in the door now and say, ‘Hey, do you want to fight for the title in the next 10 minutes?’ I’m out the door, I’m warming up, I’m ready to go.

“To lose the opportunity, that’s tough. You know how this sport works, guys. Opportunities like that don’t come along. I could strike along 15 wins in a row and still not get a title shot and I lost my opportunity and my dream. I hope that I’m gonna fight my ass off to earn it back starting on July 7 against Anthony Pettis. But yeah, tough pill to swallow.”

McGregor was arrested shortly thereafter and was charged with assault. The Irishman has been coming back and forth from court ever since.

Meanwhile, Chiesa will get his chance to take on a former champ in Pettis once again at UFC 226 in July.

The bad news just keeps on coming. TMZ reports that UFC lightweight Michael Chiesa has filed a police report with the NYPD after sustaining cuts to his face from broken glass caused by a bus window Conor McGregor smashed in Thursday’s melee.

McGregor turned himself in to authorities last night and is now facing multiple assault charges, one of which from Chiesa, who was forced to pull out of his UFC 223 fight with Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis on Saturday.

McGregor is officially charged with one felony count of criminal mischief and three misdemeanor counts of assault.

Dana White says that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as several people injured in the attack say they will be filing a lawsuit against the multi-millionaire.

The fallout from Conor McGregor and his goons storming Thursday’s media event has now caused two fights to be canceled and removed from the card due to injuries sustained during the madness.

And that has resulted in three fights overall being canceled.

After news arrived tonight that Michael Chiesa vs. Anthony Pettis had been called off of Saturday’s (Sat., April 7, 2018) UFC 223 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported that Ray Borg also pulled out of his UFC 223 bout with Brandon Moreno after both fighters were injured by broken glass caused cuts to both men:

Chiesa initially went to and left the hospital with lacerations on his face and was supposedly going to fight, but it seems his weight cutting has been affected by it to the point where he cannot make the lightweight limit to face his biggest fight to date against former divisional champion Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis.

Meanwhile, Borg was supposed to take on Moreno on the preliminary card, however, some shards of glass got into his eye, making him unable to fight on Saturday night in Brooklyn.

Perhaps the least surprising cancellation is Artem Lobov’s bout with Alex Caceres, as Lobov was promptly removed from the card due to his participation in Thursday’s melee.

Caceres will not be receiving a late replacement opponent.

McGregor and Lobov, flanked by over a dozen goons, stormed into the area of the Barclays Center where busses carrying fighters for this weekend’s UFC 223 and began smashing bus windows with metal dollies and trash cans. Their intended target was allegedly Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had into an altercation with Lobov on Wednesday.

That makes three total fights removed from UFC 223 now because of McGregor’s antics, which he may still be charged with a crime (or crimes) for.

Combined with Tony Ferguson pulling out on April Fool’s Day and featherweight champ Max Holloway stepping in and stepping up in weight, this event has been an absolute circus, and it hasn’t even occurred yet.

Stay tuned.
