Former featherweight champion Mike Brown has lost his second UFC fight in just three weeks.

Brown, who was hoping to bounce back from a split decision loss to Diego Nunes at UFC 125, instead dropped a unanimous decision to Rani Yahya at the UFC Fight for the Troops 2. Brown is now on a two-fight losing streak and has dropped four of his last six, and it’s fair to wonder how much the former champ has left.

Yahya snapped a two-fight losing streak of his own and looked good in the process. He’ll be a fighter to keep an eye on in the UFC’s new featherweight division.

“It was a very tough fight,” Yahya said afterward. “Mike is a winner, he’s a warrior. He’s a 35-year-old warrior that took a fight on two-week’s notice and fought at the last UFC, so he should get credit for that.”

Former featherweight champion Mike Brown will fight for the second time this month at Saturday night’s Fight for the Troops 2. And for the second time this month, you won’t see him unless you’re in the building.

The UFC has decided to put Brown’s fight with Rani Yahya on the non-televised undercard, and it won’t even be one of the fights broadcast on Facebook before the Spike TV portion of the card begins. At UFC 125, when Brown lost a split decision to Diego Nunes, it was one of only two fights on the 11-fight card that wasn’t televised, either on the pay-per-view broadcast or the Ion TV preliminary show.

For fans who know Brown both as a former No. 1 featherweight in the world, and as one of the most likable fighters in the sport, that’s disappointing. But it’s not surprising.

After getting put to sleep by Nate Diaz at UFC 118 — his third loss in four attempts — Marcus Davis announced his intention to drop to lightweight. According to MMA Junkie, the Irish Hand Grenade’s 155-pound debut will take place at the UFC’s stacked New Year’s Day card in Las Vegas against Jeremy Stephens, who publicly requested to be Davis’s first lightweight opponent. Stephens most recently lost a split decision to Melvin Guillard at UFC 119.

Another likely matchup for UFC 125: Resolution will be former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown making his promotional return against Diego Nunes. Brown made a single UFC appearance as a lightweight back at UFC 47 in 2004, losing by first-round submission to Genki Sudo. He most recently scored a quick TKO over Cole Province at WEC 51 in September. Representing Nova Uniao, Nunes has put together a 4-1 record in the WEC, and is coming off of consecutive decision wins against Raphael Assuncao and Tyler Toner.

The tentative lineup for UFC 125 is after the jump…

Despite being one of the more recognizable names attached to the WEC brand, former featherweight champ Mike Brown learned of the recent UFC-WEC merger the same way most people did: via the Internet.

“[The WEC] kept it hidden very well,” Brown said Monday on MMAFighting.com’s The MMA Hour. “Usually you hear the rumors and stuff starts to pop up, but I didn’t hear anything until — Boom! It was all over the Internet and my friends were calling me and telling me.”

According to the 35-year-old American Top Teamer, nobody in the organization told him before the news broke and it wasn’t until the following day when he touched on the subject with a company representative through matchmaker Sean Shelby.
