Mike Perry has claimed that he had tougher sparring with YouTube celebrity, Jake Paul, than he did with the former UFC welterweight title challenger, Darren Till.
‘Platinum’ was in Miami as Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul got fight week got into full swing. During the festivities it was announced that Jake Paul’s fourth boxing bout would come against Tyron Woodley on August 28.
Perry previously warned Dana White and Paul’s last opponent, Ben Askren, that they were in trouble after sparring the former Disney actor during his preparations for the April 17 bout.
Speaking to The Mac Life earlier this week, Perry insisted that sparring Paul was tougher than his infamous “spa” with the Englishman, Darren Till.
“Jake Paul was a better spar than Till,” Perry said. “That was an awkward situation with the gloves and shit. Yeah, definitely though.”
“Making you think he’s gonna engage then doesn’t,” Perry said about Paul’s strengths as a boxer. “He’s got long reach, he’s got different tricks, he taught me something. First round he started doing something and I was like ‘okay’ … it wasn’t doing damage, but it was like keeping him at bay.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

UFC veteran “Platinum” Mike Perry wants a shot at Boxing trainer J’Leon Love on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley later this summer.
MMA Island interviewed Perry and asked him about Love, amidst the altercation between Love and Woodley backstage at the Paul vs. Ben Askren fight. Perry seemed intrigued at the possibility of making his second appearance in the boxing ring.
“Yeah, why not?” Perry said. “I don’t know why it would be on the undercard. He’s an ex-world champion and he wants to fight a UFC fighter. I’ll do some dirty shit to him.”
Love got into a verbal altercation with Woodley during the pre-fight locker room checks before Paul’s knockout win over Askren. Love ended up poking fun at Woodley’s recent strain of losses in the UFC octagon and questioned his experience with boxing. Love quickly responded to Perry on Twitter.
“You smoking dick boy,” Love tweeted in reply.
Woodley will have the opportunity to prove Love wrong on August 28th in the main event of a Showtime pay-per-view boxing event against the undefeated Paul. This will be Woodley’s boxing debut after a long tenure in the UFC that included earning the welterweight belt and multiple title defenses as champion.
Love hasn’t competed in boxing since his loss to David Benavidez in early 2019. His last win in the boxing ring came against Jaime Barboza in May 2018.
Perry might be on his way out of the UFC after losing four of his last five fights. His most recent loss came at UFC Vegas 23 by unanimous decision to Daniel Rodriguez, in which he was seemingly dominated and beaten up from start to finish. While it’s still uncertain as to whether the UFC would grant Perry permission to fight Love or someone else in the boxing ring, it’s also uncertain as to whether he’ll get another contract with the promotion.
Perry competed in one boxing match before making the full transition to MMA, a loss to Kenneth McNeil at Island Fights 33. He’s well known as a dynamic striker when he’s fully focused and in supreme physical shape.

Mike Perry has explained why he won’t be fighting Kevin Lee at UFC 264 on July 10.
‘The Motown Phenom’ is clearly keen to get back in the Octagon after spending more than one year out due to injury. Lee required surgery on a torn ACL and unfortunately, during the rehabilitation process, tore his other ACL — resulting in a prolonged stint on the sidelines.
Lee took to social media to call out Perry earlier this week. Soon after, Lee again took to social media to confirm ‘Platinum’ had turned down the opportunity to face him.
“Not gonna lie some hoe shit to turn down the fight @platinummikeperry I was tryna help u out heard u was getting fired but I see you don’t got it in you no more,” Lee said on his Instagram. “I’ll go after a legit contender I guess.”
Perry has since explained that he is taking some time away to work on his game after a run of poor form.
“I am trying to progress. I have built bad habit,” Perry wrote on social media. I needed to take time off and my hand still hurts from the one time I punched Drod. I want to be in the gym training and focused before I accepted anything. Trying to be a real professional. Prep takes time. Plus I’m moving July.”
Perry has lost five of his last seven fights and currently sits outside the welterweight rankings. Most recently, ‘Platinum’ was outpointed by Daniel Rodriguez over three rounds at UFC Vegas 23.
Lee last fought at UFC Brasillia in March 2020. The 28-year-old looked good early but ultimately fell to a submission defeat against Charles Oliveira who will compete for UFC gold this weekend. Lee has won just two of his last six fights and the last time he competed at welterweight was in 2019 when he lost to Rafael Dos Anjos via arm triangle choke.
