Cowboy: Mike Winkeljohn Is Only About The Money

Longtime Jackson-Wink MMA team member Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone believes Mike Winkeljohn is only about the money.

The animosity between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Mike Perry is almost nonexistent. However, there’s still some bad blood between “Cowboy” and Jackson-Wink coach Mike Winkeljohn.

Cerrone has been very vocal about his grievances with Winkeljohn. The former UFC lightweight title challenger believes Winkeljohn is more financially driven above all else.

Speaking to MMA media recently, Cerrone explained that he has no issues with Perry, who Jackson-Wink seemingly opted to train over Cerrone ahead of their UFC Denver contest (via MMA Junkie):

“He’s just doing what a fighter would do going to a gym,” Cerrone. “It’s the rest of it that is (expletive) to me.”

Instead, Cerrone puts the blame on Winkeljohn, who he believes is “solely” about the money:

“It just came down to the money,” Cerrone said. “Mike Winkeljohn is solely about the money, and it’s (expletive) to say that.”

Cerrone detailed how Winkeljohn’s choice of financial gain by opting to train Perry, over team loyalty to “Cowboy” tore them apart:

“I talked to Wink as a man, face to face, and everything was fine,” Cerrone said. “I explained it, and he was like, ‘Oh, I thought you called Perry out,’ and blah blah blah.

“And I was like, ‘No, it was actually the other way around. He wanted to fight me.’ Next morning he calls me on the phone like, ‘Well, I thought about it, and not taking Perry means I don’t get paid.

“I was like, ‘You don’t get paid? What are you talking about?’ On the phone he called me, like a (expletive) girl. And he’s like, ‘So we’re going to go ahead and go with him.’

“And I said, ‘Yep, you just drew the line in the sand, man. If I catch you again, (expletive), I’ll see ya.’

UFC welterweight Mike Perry will have a fight on his hands this November.

Perry will go one-on-one with Cerrone in the main event of UFC Fight Night 139 from the Pepsi Center on November 10th. Cerrone, of course, goes by the nickname, “Cowboy,” which has apparently made Perry assume he’s the enemy of the Native American community.

“Platinum” recently took to Twitter to post an odd video in tribute to Native Americans. He dressed in Native American attire and came out of a smokey Octagon. Perry then vowed to tirelessly hunt down Cerrone “for his crimes of defamation.”

He even had a wanted poster with Cerrone on it and threw a tomahawk and shot an arrow at it.

Check it out here:

“I support the legendary Native American warriors and I am tirelessly hunting this @cowboycerrone for his crimes of defamation ! I will catch him across state lines in Denver Colorado, November 10th for alll the people of the world to see the battle between ” vs

The issues between Perry and Cerrone are anything but comical. Cerrone decided to leave his longtime Jackson-Wink camp upon Perry’s arrival to the team.

Perry was allegedly given preferential treatment, not to mention Cerrone has his own issues with Mike Winkeljohn. Their clash inside the Octagon will certainly be an interesting, and perhaps even an emotional affair.

As for Perry’s ‘tribute’ to the Native Americans, well, that was just strange.

Mike Perry Sets Sights On Two Big Names If He Beats Donald Cerrone

Mike Perry is already looking his next potential fight if he gets past “Cowboy”

The post Mike Perry Sets Sights On Two Big Names If He Beats Donald Cerrone appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Mike Perry sets sights on two big names should he get past former title contender Donald Cerrone in his next fight. The rising prospect originally accepted this fight where there was no beef between the two former training partners. Instead, it all comes down to business.

That all changed once Cerrone had some internal drama with the gym that both fighters trained at. Now, there is some bad blood between the two sides.

Perry scored the first decision win of his career when he beat Paul Felder at UFC 226, which marked his latest fight. This win also snapped back-to-back decision losses to Max Griffin and Santiago Ponzinibbio.

Mike Perry Sets Sights

During a recent interview with MMAJunkie.com, Perry went on record by stating that once he knockouts Cerrone, he wants two big names at welterweight, which are Darren Till and Robbie Lawler.

“When I knock (Cerrone) out, I wasn’t sure Till could make that weight coming back down. If I can skip the line (at middleweight), we could make that fight happen, because there’s so much animosity in it already. It’s such a good fight to make. If that fight (against Till) can’t happen, I don’t see why the Robbie Lawler fight couldn’t happen. Other than Robbie Lawler and Darren Till, I don’t know what direction it goes.”

It should be noted that the UFC is targeting a fight between Lawler and Stephen Thompson for the first event in January. On the flip side, Till has made it known that he plans to move back up to the middleweight division. Thus, making these fights happen right away might turn out to be tough to be made.

UFC Denver (also known as UFC Fight Night 139) is set to take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
