Will Jake Paul back out of his fight with Mike Tyson after seeing footage of the legendary boxer in training?

Mike Tyson may be playing the role of a washed-up pugilist in his upcoming clash with Jake Paul, but the former unified heavyweight world champion certainly doesn’t look the part.

On Saturday, July 20, “the baddest man on the planet” will return to the ring for a showdown with ‘The Problem Child’ inside the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The announcement was met with criticism almost immediately with many pundits disparaging Paul’s decision to fight someone 20 years retired and more than 30 years old than himself.

However, some fight fans have quickly changed their tune after footage of Mike Tyson’s first day of training camp emerged online. In the video, ‘Iron’ looks both quick and powerful, hitting the pads with precision and appearing to be in fantastic shape.

Responding to the footage, a slew of fans suggested that Jake Paul may pull out of the bout for fear of tasting some of the New York native’s iconic power.

“Jake Paul calling his agent to cancel the fight,” one fan wrote in response.

“Damn — RIP Jake,” another added.

“Better have an ambulance standing by for @jakepaul,” a third said.

Octagon Icon Chuck Liddell shares his Take on Mike Tyson’s return to the ring

UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell offered a similar sentiment during a brief interview with TMZ, suggesting that Tyson still has the tools to plant Jake Paul six feet under with one punch.

“When Tyson hits him, it’s over,” Liddell said before adding, “The last thing to go is power.”

According to The MMA Hour host Ariel Helwani, the fight’s organizers are hoping to have the contest sanctioned as a professional bout by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. If successful, it will be Mike Tyson’s first pro fight since suffering a loss to Kevin McBride in 2005.

Tyson has since stepped inside the ring, though it was for an exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020. Their contest went to an eight-round draw. The event also featured one of Jake Paul’s earliest appearances in the ring, defeating former NBA star Nate Robinson via a second-round knockout.

Logan Paul claims to have been offered a fight with legendary pugilist ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson before his younger brother, Jake Paul, accepted the opportunity.

On Saturday, July 20, the 57-year-old former unified heavyweight champion of the world will return to the boxing ring for a clash with ‘The Problem Child’ live on Netflix. Few details have been revealed — including whether or not the fight will be a professional boxing bout or an exhibition match — but the announcement has proven to be a polarizing one among pundits.

Logan Paul on Tyson vs. Paul

Discussing the news on his IMPAULSIVE podcast alongside his friend and Prime energy drink partner KSI, Logan Paul revealed that he was once offered the chance to fight Mike Tyson, though the terms were much less favorable.

“I was offered (a fight with Mike Tyson) but not for Netflix and not for a big bag of money,” Paul said. “It was like, could this be real because I asked for it. I am sure you have to, ‘Do you think you could beat Mike Tyson?’ My answer is yes. I just think he’s too old; it’s crazy. He’s senile.”

Today, Logan Paul is best known for his work in the world of sports entertainment where he reigns as the current WWE United States champion.

Logan Paul as WWE US Champion

Logan Paul’s last appearance in the squared circle left a lot to be desired

In 2021, the elder Paul competed in an exhibition boxing bout with Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, going a full eight rounds with the combat sports icon. Two years later, he would return for a grudge match with former Bellator standout and BJJ specialist Dillon Danis.

The months leading up to the fight were wrought with personal attacks as Danis intensely targeted Paul’s now-wife, Nina Agdal, on social media. The antics ultimately resulted in Danis being sued by Agdal, arguing that he violated federal revenge porn laws by posting a personal and previously unreleased picture of her following a sexual encounter.

Sadly, the fight itself was not nearly as galvanizing as the buildup. Paul won the bout via disqualification in the closing seconds of the sixth round after Danis attempted to wrestle the social media star to the ground.

UFC CEO Dana White is not particularly thrilled with Mike Tyson’s return to the boxing ring this summer.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the legendary pugilist would step back inside the squared circle for a showdown with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at a blockbuster event inside AT&T Stadium — home of the Dallas Cowboys — on July 20.

Dana White comments on Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

By the time fight night rolls around, Tyson will be 58 years old, more than 30 years older than his opponent.

Asked for his thoughts on the news during the UFC 299 post-fight press event, White was reluctant to slam the matchmaking, taking his friendship with Tyson into consideration, but made it abundantly clear that he did not approve.

“He gets mad when I do this, but Mike is [57], man,” White said. “I love Mike Tyson personally, as a friend. He’s one of my favorite athletes of all time. Let’s see if he can go in there and put together a training camp, but I don’t like to see the guy fighting. There’s a 31-year age difference in that fight. You guys know what I think of that stuff.”

Dana White comments on Paul vs. Tyson airing live on Netflix this summer

In another interesting twist, the fight will take place on Netflix, becoming the streaming giant’s first foray into live combat sports.

“I think that Netflix should have gotten into live sports years ago,” White added. “I think they are late to the game, but they are a force, and when you look at the amount of homes that they’re in worldwide… You guys heard me talk about the show Reacher. I posted about it. I love that show. I hate TV. I don’t watch any f*cking TV show hardly ever. Don’t watch movies anymore, but I love the show Reach, right? I can watch Reacher whenever I want to. I can watch it when I get home. I can watch it next week.

“Live sports like [UFC 299] you have to watch tonight. As all these massive streaming companies start to get bigger and bigger, they have to be involved in live sports.”

In January, it was announced that World Wrestling Entertainment would move its flagship show — Monday Night Raw — to Netflix in a blockbuster deal starting in 2025. It will be the first time the show airs exclusively on a streaming platform since debuting in 1993.

The UFC and ESPN will head to the negotiating table to discuss a new broadcast rights deal in the near future. The promotion inked a lucrative seven-year agreement with the leader in sports in 2018 that was reportedly worth more than $1.5 billion.

With that deal set to expire next year, the UFC is planning to sit down with ESPN before fielding offers from other networks and streaming services looking to add the Las Vegas-based organization to their library.

Negotiations will be handled by the UFC’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings which is led by CEO Ari Emanuel.
