Jake Paul opens as massive betting favorite to beat Mike Tyson in Netflix boxing match in July

Following the shocking announcement of his boxing match showdown this summer, naive striker, Jake Paul has opened as a rather heavy betting favorite to beat former world heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson as the pair prepare for a blockbuster July showdown at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Paul, who made his return to the ring earlier this month, managed to turn in a one-sided first round TKO win over the hugely-overmatched, Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico, stopping the Golden Gloves winner in the pair’s cruiserweight clash.

And as for Tyson, the soon-to-be 58-year-old has been sidelined from professional boxing since he fought Kevin McBride in an eventual sixth round knockout loss back in 2005.

Briefly returning in an exhibition clash with fellow former world champion slickster, Roy Jones Jr. four years ago, Brooklyn fan-favorite, Tyson fought to a split draw with his compatriot in a bout scored by the WBC.

And officially slated to fight Tyson in a boxing match this summer in ‘The Lone Star State’, the above-mentioned Paul is available as high as a -360 betting favorite to beat the reveared knockout artist, Tyson – who is available as a +300 betting underdog to hand the outspoken social media star his second professional loss in their Netflix broadcast clash.

Fans and punters alike hoping to get in on the action early — on a line which is sure to fluctuate throughout the coming weeks ahead of their July clash, can bet online on this summer’s showdown between Jake Paul, and Mike Tyson — as part of a card which almost is sure to garner worldwide attention as part of it’s broadcasting deal with global streaming service, Netflix.

Making his tenth trip to the squared circle in his fight against the above-mentioned veteran, Bourland, Paul extended his winning run to three straight fights with his dominant opening frame knockout win.

Turning in a similarly one-sided victory over Andre August in a highlight-reel first round KO via one punch last December, Paul had previously taken former undisputed UFC lightweight title chaser, Nate Diaz, the full 10 round limit in Texas, landing a one-sided decision win as well as an eye-catching knockdown.

In his sole professional loss, Paul, who also holds wins over former mixed martial arts championship winners, Tyron Woodley, and Ben Askren – both via knockout, saw his unbeaten record halted by reality television star, Tommy Fury – the half brother of WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.

One of the most iconic boxers in the sport’s long and storied history, Tyson – a devastating knockout artist and former WBA, WBC, and IBF world heavyweight champion, ended his storied professional career in the midst of a disappointing two fight skid.

Last seeing his hand raised off the back of a knockout win over Clifford Etienne back in 2003, Tyson was warned that his lights would be shut off by Ohio native Paul this summer in Arlington, who described their surprising showcase as the biggest fight of the 21st century to boot.

“Promotion promotion promotion, if I’m being honest it don’t need that.” Jake Paul posted on his official X account, accompanied by a poster of his bout with Mike Tyson. “The biggest fight of the 21st century, in the biggest NFL stadium in the US, broadcast live, on the biggest streaming platform in the world…that’s the MVP way.”

“Whether you’re tuning in on Netflix or showing out in person, whether you’re team Paul or team Tyson, or whether you’re a lifelong boxing fan or watching your first fight, you’re not going to want to miss this event,” Jake Paul continued. “I could not be more excited to make this amazing fight available to all Netflix subscribers alongside the hardest hitter of all time, Mike Tyson, on Saturday, July 20th.”

“My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time,” Jake Paul wrote. “Time to put ‘Iron’ Mike to sleep.”

Mike Tyson plans to finish ‘The Problem Child’ this summer.

On Thursday morning, news broke that the former undisputed heavyweight world champion would return to the ring for a boxing match with social media sensation Jake Paul. Emanating from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas — home of the Dallas Cowboys — the fight will broadcast live via Netflix on July 20, 2024.

“I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas,” Tyson said in a press release. “He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT.

“It’s a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him off on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him” (H/T MMA Junkie).

Mike Tyson opens as a sizeable underdog against jake paul

In November 2020, Paul stepped inside the squared circle for the second time in his career as part of the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. undercard. He earned a second-round TKO against former NBA star Nate Robinson. In the time since, ‘The Problem Child’ has amassed a 9-1 record with his lone loss coming against Tommy Fury via a closely contested split decision last year.

Paul’s last two appearances have seen him score back-to-back first-round knockouts against a couple of no-name opponents under his own Most Valuable Promotions banner.

Mike Tyson is considered to be one of the most dangerous boxers to ever step foot in the ring, dispatching his first 19 opponents by way of knockout and holding the undisputed heavyweight title from 1987 to 1990. Over his 20-year career, Tyson built a record that includes 50 wins with 44 of them coming by way of knockout.

When it comes to experience, there is no ifs, ands, or buts. Mike Tyson has a clear advantage. However, ‘Iron’ will be 58 years old by the time fight night rolls around — more than 30 years older than Jake Paul. As a result, Tyson is currently listed as a significant +300 underdog on multiple sportsbooks compared to ‘The Problem Child’ who is being heavily favored at -360.

As for Tyson, the former world heavyweight champion – who is revered as arguably the most formidable knockout artist in heavyweight boxing history, has yet to feature in the ring since he fought to a split draw with former multiple-weight champion, Roy Jones Jr. back in November 2020 – snapping a 15-year stay away from the sport.

Francis Ngannou, Jon Jones, and Mike Tyson

Three of the biggest names in combat sports history were in the house at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh for the historic PFL vs. Bellator card on Saturday, February 24.

PFL signee Francis Ngannou was in attendance alongside his friend and part-time trainer, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, as was reigning UFC heavyweight world champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. Jones and Ngannou first met at a PFL event in June of 2023. The pair engaged in a mostly friendly face-off with one another. This time, things got a little more chippy between the two when Jones suggested that Ngannou’s next opponent in the boxing ring — Anthony Joshua — would hand ‘The Predator’ a second straight loss.

“I’m rooting for Francis to win only because his story, how far he’s come in life, and him being a fellow mixed martial artist,” said Jones. “How could you not root for Francis? Francis is a wonderful, stand-up person. So I’m rooting for Francis.

“But Anthony Joshua has been doing this since he was a young boy. I’m the type of guy who gives respect where it’s due. So if I personally had to put my money on it — not that I gamble — I would put it on Anthony Joshua. But I am rooting for Francis. Sorry, Francis” (h/t MMA Mania).

‘Bones’ then went on to state that before he hangs up his four-ounce gloves for good, he’s going to beat Stipe Miocic, current interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, and Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou laughed off the comment from the sidelines, saying: “In your dreams, you’re f*cking fat.”

‘Bones’ hangs out with ‘Iron’ Mike, Francis Ngannou, and Fedor while in Riyadh

Still, that didn’t stop Jones, Ngannou, and ‘Iron’ Mike from having a good time with one another in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Jon Jones also spent some time with another mixed martial arts legend, Fedor Emelianenko.

Sadly, the chances of us ever seeing Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou square off, whether it be inside the Octagon or the Smart Cage, is slim. Dana White has already dismissed the possibility of a crossover between his MMA empire and the PFL. The UFC CEO was also adamant that the promotion will never conduct business with Ngannou again following their failed negotiations ahead of his 2023 release.

And as for Jon Jones, it’s hard to imagine the UFC ever letting him out of his contract, even after he’s done fighting.
