There are plenty of cautionary tales in combat sports, but Khamzat Chimaev is being careful not to be one of them.

Chimaev has set the MMA world on fire with the utter dominance shown in his UFC career thus far. The undefeated Chechen prospect has burnt through his first four opponents in the promotion, only absorbing a combined total of two strikes across the bouts.

However, Chimaev knows that this might not last forever and that combat sports is a fickle mistress that may deliver fame and fortune but can take your soul in the process.

When asked in a recent interview with Hustle MMA about former boxing champion Mike Tyson, who has had notorious blotches on his life story, Chimaev said that he was a fan of Tyson, even through the different phases that “Iron” Mike went through in his life. He also knows that this situation could just as easily happen to him or anyone else.

“As a fighter, an athlete, I really like him. But I don’t like what all happened with him: the violence, the pills, the marijuana, then muslims, it’s strange. But I still respect him, both as a fighter and as a person. He went through a lot of things and because of this, he broke down, did a lot of bad things,” Chimaev said.

“No one knows what will happen to me, it can happen to anyone. A good, normal person, but something happens and you end up in a mental hospital. Like (Tony) Ferguson, right? Something like that happened to him.”

It is good to see a fighter so early in his career, be so wary of the cautionary tales that combat sports so often provide. In addition to Mike Tyson, Khamzat Chimaev also referenced former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson, who notably went through something of a mental health crisis in 2019.

While this could be written off as a diss, it instead seems as if he is just conscious of the possible risks that happen as one rises in status and popularity.

Malawi officials have responded to the backlash that ensued after asking boxing legend Mike Tyson to be its cannabis ambassador.

Last year, Malawi legalized growing and processing cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes. Though recreational use remains illegal in the country, this was a major step towards a deeper engagement with the cannabis industry. In helping make this transition as seamless as possible, Malawi reached out to “Iron” Mike Tyson to serve in the role of “cannabis ambassador.”

Mike Tyson is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most recognized boxers of all time. He has also become a pop-culture icon who has dabbled in many projects, one of them being “Tyson 2.0,”  a company owned by the boxing great that sells cannabis throughout the United States.

Between Tyson’s brand recognition as a public figure and his interest in the cannabis industry, Malawi officials considered him to be the perfect fit for the role of cannabis ambassador.

Malawi’s invitation to Tyson was soon met with backlash. Some were critical of the move due to Tyson being a convicted rapist. Tyson was imprisoned for the rape of Desiree Washington in 1992. He would serve three years for the term before being released on parole in 1995.

Malawi Representatives Respond To Backlash For Tyson Offer

Nearly three decades later, Malawi spokesperson Gracian Lungu responded to the backlash by reminding critics of the chief purpose of incarceration: rehabilitation.

“Malawi as a nation believes that Mr. Tyson is a right and reformed person as he was released on parole.”

Malawi’s Minister of Gender, Patricia Kaliati, also spoke in defense of Tyson and the country’s offer to him.

“It’s about business, (and) economic business of cannabis,” Kaliati told CNN. “We look for the prominent people, the decision-makers who can say a thing which can be recognized internationally.”

As of this writing, Mike Tyson has not formally accepted or acknowledged Malawi’s proposal to be its cannabis advisor.

Do you think Mike Tyson is a good choice for a country’s cannabis ambassador?

The always polarizing YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul claims that his emergence has made some of Boxing’s greatest legends take notice.

Paul has gone from a relative afterthought to one of Boxing’s most prominent personalities within a year. He’s earned wins over former UFC stars Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley and has seen his brand skyrocket.

Paul’s marketing ability has proven to serve him well from his career as a social media influencer and now as a professional boxer. After passing the toughest test of his career against Woodley, he believes that he has the backing of top boxing stars such as Mike Tyson, Anthony Joshua, and Tyson Fury.

“The legends would agree,” Paul told Bleacher Report (h/t The Mirror). “The Anthony Joshuas, the Mike Tysons, the Manny Pacquiaos, the Tyson Furys. They’ve all said what I’m doing for boxing is a breath of fresh air.”

“I think that debate started about a year ago – is Jake Paul good for boxing? I have silenced that, and I don’t think there’s anybody on the other side of the equation who thinks I’m bad for boxing.”

Jake Paul Will Face Tommy Fury On Dec. 18

Paul will face another undefeated boxer on Dec. 18 in Tommy Fury, the younger half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Tommy is coming off of a unanimous decision win over former Bellator fighter Anthony Taylor during the same card that Paul defeated Woodley.

Tyson has said in the past that he’s been impressed with both Jake and Logan Paul during their young boxing careers. Logan recently fought against Boxing Hall of Famer Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition in Miami, FL.

There’s little debate that the Paul brothers are two of the most divisive figures in Boxing history, but there’s also no doubt that both have made a tremendous footprint on the sport during their young careers. Paul will look to silence the doubters further against Fury in just a matter of weeks.

Do you agree with Jake Paul’s comments?

Junior dos Santos

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos says boxing legend Mike Tyson convinced the UFC to not give him a post-fight bonus.

Dos Santos was released from the UFC earlier this year after a recent losing skid to the likes of Ciryl Gane and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. He hasn’t ruled out signing with another MMA promotion but has hinted at a transition to boxing before his career ends.

But dos Santos raised plenty of eyebrows during a recent interview with The Sun, in which he accused Tyson of convincing UFC president Dana White to give him just one post-fight bonus instead of two for his knockout over Mark Hunt at UFC 160.

Junior Dos Santos Claims Mike Tyson Told UFC To Take KO Bonus

“Back in the day, Mike Tyson took from me $50,000 because of Dana White!” dos Santos said. “When I fought Mark Hunt I had two Bonuses of the Night – Best Fight of the Night, and Best Knockout of the Night. And Mike Tyson was there watching the fight and at the press conference after the fights, Dana White said, ‘Junior Dos Santos has won two bonuses of the night. Best Fight of the Night, and Best Knockout of the Night.’

“But I was asking Mike Tyson and he told me to give the Knockout of the Night to somebody else!” dos Santos continued. “He said, ‘Why give two bonuses to just one guy?’ So he took away from me $50,000. So he owes me $50,000!”

Tyson and the UFC brass, and most specifically White, have had a cordial relationship for years. Tyson has attended a series of UFC events, including dos Santos’ win over Hunt at UFC 160.

Dos Santos has had plenty of things to say about how the UFC treated him on his way out of the promotion, accusing them of forcing his hand with opponents and threatening to cut him if he didn’t accept bouts. These are claims that that UFC has fervently denied.

Dos Santos has remained in the public eye since leaving the UFC and was part of the commentary team for the recent Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort boxing match. Tyson has also returned to the boxing world, beginning with his recent return against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition.

What do you think about Junior dos Santos’ comments?

Mike Tyson Explains Why He Won’t Fight ‘Little White Motherf*ucker’ Jake Paul

Mike TysonMike Tyson was explaining that he could beat Jake Paul, but wouldn’t do it so he could have “his reign””. Mike Tyson was explaining that he could beat Jake Paul, but wouldn’t do it so he could have “his reign””.

Tyson said his family likes the Paul brother and that is the reason that he wouldn’t want to fight Paul. “So f*****g easy. Yeah, but I would never. I’d be against my own f*****g family.” Tyson said. “They love this little white motherf****r. You know what I mean? He got balls. He’s got f*****g balls. When you see a white boy with balls, you know. I’m talking about for real, but f**k you motherf****r… Yeah but nah man, let him have his f*****g reign.” (Sportskeeda)

Paul is coming off a win against Tyron Woodley via split decision in a fight that many people tuned in to watch. Woodley even got a Jake Paul tattoo so they could possibly run the fight back. Paul has two wins over former MMA fighters now after he has beaten ‘Funky’ Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.

Tyson Fury’s Brother Next For ‘The Problem Child’?

Paul’s name has been linked to Tommy Fury, a real boxer. Tommy Fury is the younger brother of Tyson Fury, who is coincidentally named after the great Mike Tyson. Fury is a significant step up in competition for ‘The Problem Child’ and would solidify his future in the sport of boxing if he is able to win. Paul is a fantastic promoter as he gets many people to tune into his fights due to his ability to make people hate him.

Tyson had been retired for a long time before last year when he took on Roy Jones Jr. The bout was ruled a split draw by the judges, but Tyson clearly looked like the better fighter. Tyson is still in fantastic fight and would most likely send Paul into the shadow realm if the two squared off. Paul is fortunate that Tyson’s family likes him and he doesn’t want to take his head off.

How fast do you think Mike Tyson would beat Jake Paul in a boxing match?
