Heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson finally has an opponent and a date for his highly anticipated comeback fight. ‘Iron Mike’ will square off against Roy Jones Jr. in California on September 12.

According to a report from TMZ Tyson and Jone Jr. will compete in an eight-round exhibition fight and the card will be titled ‘Frontline Battle’. The fight will be available on Pay-per-view and on the social media platform Triller. The event will include an undercard of fights as well as live musical performances.

Tyson revealed although the fight is billed as an exhibition bout he will be going for the knockout as he always does, he said.

“Anybody who knows me, I don’t know how to [take my foot off the gas]. I just know one way of fighting and that’s just what it is.”

Tyson announced in April that he was training for a surprise return to boxing. The 54-year-old has since released various training videos which have excited fans and showed off his infamous punching power.

The Hall of Fame boxer has been linked to a bunch of different names for his comeback including MMA fighters Tito Ortiz, Wanderlei Silva and Ken Shamrock. Tyson has also reportedly turned down a $20 million offer to fight under the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship banner. Long-time rival, Evander Holyfield was also believed to be in contention to face Tyson in his return but he seems to have missed out – at least for now.

Jones Jr. is currently riding a four-fight winning streak. He last fought in 2018, beating Scott Sigmon over ten rounds to claim the WBU cruiserweight title.

Tyson hasn’t had a professional fight since in over 15 years. The youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history has since battled substance abuse and weight issues. In recent years he has turned things around and become a popular figure in the entertainment world.

Who wins on September 12? Mike Tyson or Roy Jones Jr?

The always interesting Mike Tyson is making headlines again. This time, for signing up to fight a Great White Shark for Discovery’s Shark Week.

Tyson Vs. Jaws: Rumble on the Reef will air on Aug. 9 at 9 p.m. est. Tyson will face off against the animal in the “name of research.” Hilariously adding to this event, iconic ring announcer, Michael Buffer, will also take part.

“With famed ring announcer Michael Buffer calling the shots, these two heavyweights will square off underwater, where Mike Tyson will try to score a TKO over the massive shark … all in the name of research,” Discovery explained.

Tyson went on to have an interesting take on why exactly he is partaking in this, describing, “I equate this with overcoming my fear of getting back into the ring at 54 years old,” he explained. “I learned from this experience doing Shark Week that whatever intimidates me, I am still able to step up to the challenge of overcoming anything that would prevent me from accomplishing my life’s mission of reaching my highest potential in life and bringing me closer to God.”  (Transcribed by Complex

Tyson had recently made headlines a few weeks ago when he talked about getting in the boxing ring with Jon Jones.

Daniel Cormier ‘Not Interested’ In Seeing Jon Jones Fight Mike Tyson

Former dual weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier is not a fan of the idea his long-time rival Jon Jones may fight heavyweight boxing legend, Mike Tyson. ‘Iron Mike’ seemingly called out Jones while discussing the ongoing pay dispute between ‘Bones’ and the UFC, he said.

“Listen to this, UFC is more popular than boxing, right? Higher ratings, right? But a UFC fighter will never be richer than a first-class fighter. To make a $100 million, Conor McGregor had to fight Floyd Mayweather. Jon Jones got to fight me if he wants to make some super money.”

Jones has since responded to say he is willing to box against the 53-year-old but on the condition they have a rematch under MMA rules, he said.

“I’ll box you in the ring if you promise to give me a real fight in the Octagon afterwards. And because I respect you so much, I promise I won’t break anything on you,” he said on social media.

Speaking on the latest episode of ‘DC & Helwani’ Cormier expressed his belief that a fight between Jones and Tyson will never happen, he said.

“Jon Jones and Mike Tyson? In what, mixed martial arts? No, I don’t want to see it. That’s crazy, it’s odd, like even hearing the whole interaction is odd. I’m just going to ignore it. No-sell. You know how they say you no-sold something? I’m no-selling this thing right into the garbage can. Mike is just talking. Look man, when you are in front of a camera like that and doing these things, sometimes you just talk and you are talking and talking and talking. I think that it is one of those times where Mike was just talking. The reality is, in order for Jones to make those types of dollars he’s going to go have to fight a guy like that in boxing and get a boxing type contract. It’s not wrong. He’s not wrong, still just not interested in it.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)
