Anderson Silva And Lyoto Machida Say Hello To BJ Penn.

It’s interesting that former UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn has such a love hate relationship with MMA fans but most(especially high level) fighters seem to really like him. Cole-Konrad

CHICAGO, Ill. (July 20, 2010) — Cole Konrad, the two-time NCAA wrestling champion who is undefeated since making the transition into MMA earlier this year, is the latest confirmed participant in Bellator Fighting Championships’ upcoming Season 3 Heavyweight Tournament.

The 26-year-old Konrad, a protégé and training partner of reigning UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, will enter the tournament looking to improve on the unblemished 4-0 record he has compiled since making his pro debut in January. His two most recent wins came during special “Feature Fights” at Bellator 17 and Bellator 22 in May and June.

Standing at 6 feet, 5 inches tall and tipping the scales at 265 lbs., Konrad is the seventh confirmed participant in the tournament along with undefeated European finisher Damian “The Polish Pitbull” Grabowski, power-punching British behemoth Neil Grove, heavy-handed UFC veteran Eddie Sanchez, Spanish submission ace Rogent Lloret, Seattle-area knockout artist Mike “300” Hayes and Georgia-based ground-and-pound specialist Scott Barrett.

The tournament begins Aug. 12th on FOX Sports Net.

“Cole Konrad’s pedigree as a wrestler is obviously second-to-none and he is quickly developing other aspects of his MMA arsenal as well,” said Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Between Warren at 45 and Askren at 70, world class wrestlers have had a very good run with Bellator, and Cole could certainly follow in those footsteps.”

Konrad, who grew up in Neenah, Wis., won the NCAA wrestling championships at 285 lbs. while competing at the University of Minnesota in 2006 and 2007 and won a gold medal at the 2005 Pan-American Games. He has been training with Lesnar, a fellow U. of M. alumnus, for the past year and a half.

“This tournament is going to provide me with the greatest test that I’ve faced so far in my fighting career,” Konrad said. “But this is exactly the kind of test I’m looking for. I want to get as many fights under my belt as I can and I want to keep fighting tougher guys. This tournament is going to allow me to do that.

“I’m taking it one fight at a time, but I’m planning on winning this tournament. If I wasn’t planning on winning, I wouldn’t bother showing up.”

UFC 117 Breakdown Of Hughes Vs. Almeida By Joe Rogan

UFC commentator Joe Rogan breaks down the UFC 117 welterweight matchup between Matt Hughes and Ricardo Almeida. This should be an interesting fight with Almeida certainly looking at moving up the ladder with a win over the former champion while Hughes continues to want to fight relevant fights in the UFC.

UFC 118 Short Trailer”Boxing Vs. The UFC”

We’ll it seems that UFC will be selling the boxing vs. mixed martial arts angle. Wonder what the spin will be if Toney actually manages to take out Randy “The Natural Couture.” UFC 118 takes place on August 28 from TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and will feature a title defence by […]

This should be a good one.

Randy Couture Advised EA Sports on New MMA Game

Back in the day when mainstream culture believed the only rule in MMA was that you couldn’t wrap your hands in shards of glass, no one would have dreamed that a decade later thousands of people would be throwing down $50 to buy video game versions of the sport (yes…we also cry with joy that […]

Back in the day when mainstream culture believed the only rule in MMA was that you couldn’t wrap your hands in shards of glass, no one would have dreamed that a decade later thousands of people would be throwing down $50 to buy video game versions of the sport (yes…we also cry with joy that we’re no longer limited to the original Play Station console…). Things have changed…and for the better.

Now, we’ve gone on about THQ’s UFC Undisputed series before, and there is little doubt that the game has been a massive success for Zuffa. Of course, where there is money to be made people will follow, and gaming / MMA nerds are now anxiously waiting for the release of EA Sport’s MMA game later this year. According to a recent report from MMA Fighting, in the interest of making the game as good as possible, EA brought in Randy Couture several times to get his feedback on it. The company’s Randy Chase was quoted saying:

“Randy has been to our studio five or six times and has spent a lot of time with our developers and even though he’s not really a gamer, he has shared so much about the fights, and about how he trains for specific opponents,” Chase said. “One of the things he talked about is that when you’re training, if you’re training to fight a wrestler, you want wrestlers in your camp. And that’s something that we really put into our career mode.”

Nice job Randy. And isn’t it nice to know that you’re involvement with the game won’t result in your UFC banishment after all…

Frank Mir “Didn’t Watch” Brock Lesnar’s Last Fight With Shane Carwin.

UFC heavyweight fighter Frank Mir is seldom been at a loss for words, especially when speaking about current UFC champion Brock Lesnar, but doesn’t seem too interested in his former foe during this short interview. UFC heavyweight fighter Frank Mir is seldom been at a loss for words, especially when speaking about current UFC champion Brock Lesnar, but doesn’t seem too interested in his former foe during this short interview. Mir was interviewed by MMASucka at the Armageddon Fighting Championships 3 which featured his jiu jitsu coach Robert Drysdale securing his first victory in mixed martial arts. While Mir says he wasn’t interested, it’s hard to imagine that someone who has admitted to obsessing about Lesnar wouldn’t be eagerly hoping(and watching) for his demise. In any case Mir is focused on his upcoming rematch with Big Nog, who hopefully will put up more of a fight than the first match between the two.
