Chael Sonnen defends Dricus du Plessis from israel Adesanya he didn't make it about race

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen comes to the defence of Dricus Du Plessis amid the ongoing controversy between him and reigning middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya.

Du Plessis scored the biggest win of his career this past weekend, knocking out former 185lb title-holder, Robert Whittaker, in the second round. This win set up a grudge match with Adesanya following their ongoing feud, which came to a head in the cage after the fight.

The dispute between the two started after Du Plessis said that he wanted to be the first African champion, clarifying by saying he meant someone who still lives and trains out of the continent. Of course Adesanya, Francis Ngannou and Kamaru Usman were all born and spent a varied amount of time living in either Nigeria or Cameroon. However, all three have spent their entire professional careers living and training out of New Zealand or American.

Whether Du Plessis meant to offend or not, neither Usman or Adesanya liked the comments, with the latter ripping into the South African several times and would label Du Plessis a ‘cracker’. Prior to last weekend’s fight, ‘Stylebender’ said that he hoped Du Plessis won so they could get a fight together, vowing to ‘drag his [Du Plessis] carcass across South Africa.

Chael Sonnen weighs in

Sonnen took to his YouTube channel to discuss the topic, claiming that Du Plessis’s comments were misrepresented and he did not bring race into the discussion.

“We were witnessing [Du Plessis] realizing for the first time ‘This guy doesn’t get it. This guy is actually mad. This guy is actually offended, this guy doesn’t understand. I’m not in that spot,” Sonnen said. “I’m just trying to get the match.’ And I just understood it on a deeper level, where people were willing to say or where people were willing to go with that or where they were trying to pull Du Plessis or pull some of Du Plessis’ comments. And they simply weren’t true.

There were a number of things Du Plessis said, that he most certainly did not say. And he did make it about nationality, that’s true. And you will find the African comment, that’s true,” Sonnen continued. “But he didn’t make it about race, that is not true. And that’s not fair.”

Stipe Miocic calls Jon Jones UFC 290 fight delayed you said I was the one running

Former UFC bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz shares concerns over Stipe Miocic’s training for his upcoming fight against Jon Jones.

It was recently announced that former heavyweight ruler, Miocic, would be taking the newly crowned Jones in the main event of UFC 295 on November 11. The matchup comes following Jones’ in-cage callout of Miocic, and subsequent months of talks – being held in the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Miocic is widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight champion, but has not competed since his heavy knockout loss to Francis Ngannou in March of 2021, and will be 41 by the time the fight comes around.

Dominick Cruz casts doubt on stipe Miocic’s training

Miocic is also a fireman, something he has proudly kept up throughout his fighting career, but when analysing the fight Cruz said that this could be a detriment come fight night. While it is undoubtedly a heroic thing to do, Jones is one of the greatest fighter ever and Cruz questioned whether Miocic has been able to give the giant task ahead his full attention.

Am I the only one who doesn’t know how much Stipe’s been training?” Cruz asked. “Have we been seeing videos of him training a lot? Where’s he been? Is he doing martial arts against trees? Because he’s facing a giant, giant man that can fight and it’s not a fire. I’m just wondering. You’re not fighting a fire, you’re fighting Jon Jones. Have you been fighting humans in the woods? I’m just trying to understand what you’re doing to prepare.

He was training a lot consistently and fighting a lot consistently,” Cruz continued. “What has he been doing now? Fighting fires, right? I’m just curious.”

Mark Zuckerberg has shown off body transformation, as he trained some MMA alongside UFC Champions Israel Adesanya (24-2 MMA) and Alexander Volkanovski (26-2 MMA).

Zuckerberg recent love affair with mixed martial art has caught the eye of fellow tech boss Elon Musk who goaded the Meta CEO into agreeing to an MMA fight.

Elon Musk was pictured alongside UFC legend Geroges St-Pierre (26-2 MMA) and his long-time coach John Danaher, showing fans a fight between him and Zuckerberg might not just be a fantasy.

Zuckerberg replied with a picture of him seemingly training with City Kickboxing’s teammates Volkanovski and Adesanya. However, fans taken aback by the astonishing physical condition of the 39-year-old, raising concerns about Musk’s chances.

MMA has well and truly encapsulated Mark Zuckerberg attention just a few years ago, so much so he has recently been taking part in Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitions and winning.

Although Musk admitted he is out of shape, he does however have combat sports experience as he used to train in judo, Kyokushin karate, and taekwondo during his youth.

Some of Elon Musk’s fans have switched their predictions after seeing the recent picture of Zuckerberg.

“My money was originally on Musk but Zuck making a real strong case at this point,” one fan stated.

Another fan wrote: “This is not looking good for Elon, please get in shape. The future of social media hangs in the balance!” Elon gotta get rid of the pot belly and get in shape. Hate to say it, but if Zuck meets Elon in a ring, he’s destroying him in a min.”

Mark Zuckerberg Vs Elon Musk, could it happen?

Despite many people around the world doubting such a fight would ever materialise, with each passing day it seems more likely.

Even UFC boss, Dana White believes he is the one to get this generational mega-fight over the line, whilst also selling t-shirt merchandise to promote the possible clash.

Both Musk and Zuckerberg spent well over an hour on the phone with White to discuss the fight and plan to donate all the money they earn from their bout to charity.

Although it not all great news for fight fans, as White plans to sell the pay-per-view for an extravagant $100, which is considerably more than his typical $79.99.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk reveals plans for UFC return in 2023 I was looking for a comeback

Former undisputed strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk has revealed she was planning a stunning return from retirement this year in a return to the Octagon, however, saw initial plans for a UFC return scuppered by a long-standing injury.

Jedrzejczyk, a former undisputed strawweight champion and likely future Hall of Fame inductee, called time on her professional mixed martial arts career back in June of last year, following her second consecutive loss in a stunning spinning back-fist KO loss to former champion, Zhang Weili at UFC 274.

In the immediate aftermath of the pair’s rematch, Jedrzejczyk confirmed her decision to walk away from the sport with immediate effect, bringing down the curtain on a stunning, gold-laden professional career, which saw her boast a 16-5 record.

Since her retirement from the sport, Jedrzejczyk has, however, flirted with a potential comeback to the sport, and revealed this week that she was in line to make a return this year – returning to training at American Top Team before a significant injury suffered previously, nixed those plans.

“I was back to American Top Team in January, because I was looking for a comeback,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk told Cageside Press during a recent interview. “But I had a really bad injury, since 2020, and it got bad, very bad. So I had to go through the surgery. I have to do physio for the next five to nine months to get back to shape, to get back to any sport.”

Joanna Jedrzejczyk holds the record for most strawweight title defenses

“I don’t want to be a coach, but i see myself helping and training with them,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk explained. “Because I will train forever and ever. I love this sport so much.”

Winning undisputed strawweight gold against two-time champion, Carla Esparza back in 2015 with a TKO finish, Jedrzejczyk would go on to rack up a slew of successful title defenses against Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Jessica Andrade.

Ronda Rousey reflects on 2014 win over Alexis Davis amid links to UFC return some things never change

Former undisputed bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey has once more drawn speculation on a potential return to the UFC in the future – sharing similarities to a finishing sequence in her 2014 title defense against Alexis Davis, and a recent professional wrestling match under the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) banner.

Rousey, a former undisputed Strikeforce bantamweight champion and the inaugural UFC bantamweight titleholder, most recently competed in combat sports back in December 2016 atop a UFC 207 pay-per-view card, suffering a first round TKO loss to former two-weight champion, Amanda Nunes.

The loss came as Ronda Rousey’s second consecutively, following a 2015 knockout loss to incoming UFC Vegas 77 headliner, Holly Holm, in the pair’s bantamweight championship fight.

Exiting the Octagon boasting a 12-2 professional record, Californian veteran, Rousey, who has since turned her talents to a hugely-impressive professional wrestling stint under the banner of the WWE, has been linked with a return to the UFC following the June retirement of former foe and Brazilian icon, Nunes.

Backed to skip the cue and fight immediately for bantamweight gold in a potential return by UFC play-by-play lead, Jon Anik, Rousey was also tipped to compete for vacant spoils by former strawweight queen, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who heaped praise on the veteran.

Adding fuel to the proverbial fire regarding a potential Octagon comeback, Ronda Rousey featured in a betting advertisement for UFC 290 over the weekend, leading to further speculation regarding a comeback to combat sports.

Beginning her professional record ni the midst of a 12-fight winning run, Rousey has landed notable career wins over the likes of Julia Budd, Miesha Tate, Sarah Kaufmann, Liz Carmouche, Sara McMann, Alexis Davis, Cat Zingano, and most recently, Bethe Correia.

Alexander Volkanovski pound for pound one spot alongside Jon Jones UFC 290 title win

Off the back of his fifth successful title defense over the weekend at UFC 290 in his title unification win over Yair Rodríguez, Alexander Volkanovski has once more landed as the number one ranked pound-for-pound fighter under the promotion’s banner – landing beside heavyweight kingpin, Jon Jones.

Headlining at UFC 290 over the course of the weekend during International Fight Week, Alexander Volkanovski managed to successfully unify the featherweight titles against interim gold holder, Rodríguez, defeating the Mexican striker with a slew of third round ground strikes.

The victory propelled Alexander Volkanovski back to the winner’s enclosure following a unanimous decision loss to undisputed lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev in an unsuccessful title challenge back in February in Perth, Australia atop a UFC 294 pay-per-view card.

Alexander Volkanovski reclaims top slot in the pound-for-pound rankings

And furthermore, last weekend’s stoppage win over Rodríguez, has one resulted in Volkanovski’s ascension to the number one slot in the pound-for-pound rankings – alongside current heavyweight kingpin, Jones, in the latest rankings update released this morning

In other notable movement in the rankings, event co-headliner, Alexandre Pantoja debuted in the pound-for-pound pile at number nine – having clinched undisputed flyweight gold in a close, split decision win over Brandon Moreno.

At the middleweight limit, surging South African contender, Dricus du Plessis is also now the official number one ranked contender, usurping both Alex Pereira, and opponent, Robert Whittaker – following his devastating second round TKO win. du Plessis is in turn, expected to fight champion, Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 in September in Sydney, Australia.

In the official lightweight pile, Dan Hooker returns to the divisional top-10 for the first time since 2020, having turned in his second consecutive victory in a hard-fought decision win over New Zealand boogeyman, Jalin Turner in an instant classic on the main card.

Set for a two month sidelining as he undergoes a surgical procedure to address an elbow injury, New South Wales native, Volkanovski has not yet ruled out a return at UFC 294 in October, to take on the aforenoted, Makhachev in a title re-run
