Dustin Jacoby

GLORY Kickboxing veteran, Dustin Jacoby continues his impressive run at the light heavyweight limit — stopping Da Un Jung with an impressive walk-off knockout win in the first round of the pair’s UFC Long Island preliminary card matchup.

Jacoby, an alum of Dana White‘s Contender Series — entered this evening’s matchup against Jung off the back of unanimous judging win against Michal Oleksiejczuk.

Scoring his impressive sixth successful Octagon victory since his debut back in October 2020, Jacoby’s sole matchup in the Octagon without a victory came back in the form of a split draw against Ion Cutelaba.

Extending his undefeated run to four consecutive fights, Jacoby wobbled Jung with a jab before following up with a brutal right hand, clipping the South Korean on the side of his head, sending him to the Octagon canvas for a first round, walk-off knockout success.

Ian Garry is hoping to get a training session in with Conor McGregor.

Former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor has been on the sidelines recovering from the horrific leg break injury he suffered in his latest outing against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Coach John Kavanagh had recently shared a major update on his return, informing McGregor is back to grappling and able to train in all facets of mixed martial arts.

Ian Garry looks forward to training with Conor McGregor

In a chat with Mirror Fighting, rising UFC prospect Ian Garry talked about receiving praise from his idol. “The Notorious” had tweeted in support of “The Future” after his latest victory over Gabriel Green at UFC 276.

“There’s no way any time that man posts about me or comments on my fights that I’m not going to be excited,” Garry said. “He’s someone we sat around staying up for late nights with friends to watch his fights.”

“All of the press conferences, the build-up to all the fights, we were so emotionally invested in his fights. I’ll never forget those moments, Mendes, Aldo, I remember where I was for every single one.”

Garry hopes that when he’s back in London, he gets the chance to visit his home country and potentially train together with McGregor.

“It will always be amazing that my name is coming out of his mouth. That’s special to me, and the fact is that potentially when I come home to Ireland we could train together, I would love. Even if we just sat down and talked it would be awesome, I’m just a fan of his, and I always will be.”

“Some people think I don’t understand or hear the fans that much,” Garry said. “But have you ever heard me after my performances? I’m the one who says all of that stuff, I’m the one in the ring and I’m also the one criticizing myself more than anybody.” (ht Mirror)

Chris Weidman is looking to make his return to fighting this year.

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has remained out of action since his last outing against Uriah Hall at UFC 261. Weidman snapped his shin just 17 seconds into the opening round. The horrific leg injury kept him on the sidelines for over a year following the incident in April 2021.

Now, a return seems closer than ever.

Chris Weidman is “hoping” to return this year

In an interview with MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck, Chris Weidman talked about how the last 15 months were for him in recovery. He expanded on the ESPN documentary that will come out later to show what he went through to make his comeback.

“Pretty damn sucky, it’s been very hard,” Weidman said. “Lots of ups and downs, a lot of issues and it just sucks I can’t put too much out there because I’m doing a documentary with ESPN, they’re doing an E60.

“So, they have the rights to everything, I can’t put out like me training or if I had really low spots where I had to get additional surgeries. I can’t put anything out there because they have the rights to it but it’s going to help them be able to tell the story in a great way.

“They’re going to market it as the worst injury of all time and coming back from that because once you guys all find out what I’ve had to go through over these last 15 months, it’s been a lot. I’m excited for them to be able to tell that story finally, and I’m excited to come back and shock the world.

“I’m hoping this year, yeah.”

Weidman will corner Anthony Smith

“The All-American” revealed that he will corner Anthony Smith in his upcoming bout with Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 277 on July 30 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

“July 30th, I’m actually cornering Anthony Smith. I don’t think I told anybody that yet. He’s been coming down to South Carolina to train with me and help him get ready. He’s got that title eliminator fight with Ankalaev so I’m excited to try to get him ready for that.”

Ahead of her August SmartCage return against Martina Jindrova, two-time PFL lightweight tournament victor, Kayla Harrison has opened up on her professional relationship with former two-weight UFC champion, Amanda Nunes, explaining how much she misses the Brazilian at home facility, American Top Team.

Harrison, who boasts an undefeated 14-0 professional record, returns on August 20. in London, England – headlining PFL 9 at the Copper Box Arena in the promotion’s first visit to the UK as part of a slew of events.

Returning just earlier this month in a quarter final bracket, Harrison, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in Judo, defeated the veteran, Kaitlin Young – landing her second victor of the season format after a May decision win against Marina Mokhnatkina.

Kayla Harrison spoke of her professional relationship with past teammate, Amanda Nunes

Attempting to become the first three-time PFL tournament victor in the history of the organization, Kayla Harrison, who has been linked with an eventual UFC move and a subsequent ‘superfight’ with former teammate, Nunes, described how much she misses sharing the mats wit the Bahia great.

“I mean for me, greatly – greatly,” Kayla Harrison told LowKick MMA reporter, Michael Owens when asked how much she misses Amanda Nunes, professionally, at American Top Team. “There’s no way to sugercoat that. I mean, obviously, it is a privilege to get to work with the best fighter in the world. And to learn from her, to see her, to watch her, to emulate her, was a privilege to me.”

“Of course, I miss that, and also she’s a big – there’s not many big girls in MMA,” Kayla Harrison explained. “It was a luxury, and I definitely miss it, for sure. I feel bad that she felt – I know that in some interviews, I felt bad that she felt that way. It was never my intention to – I just want her to get better, you know. I just want her to get better with her. It was good while it lasted.”

Following her UFC 269 bantamweight title loss to challenger, Julianna Peña back in December of last year, Nunes confirmed her departure from long time home base, American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida – with the view to creating her own gym and team.

The reigning featherweight champion returns in the main event of UFC 277 later this month at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas – rematching Peña, attempting to recapture her bantamweight title.
