Video: Cris Cyborg Knocks Out Hiroko Yamanaka in 16 Seconds

It was the only stoppage from last night’s Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal card, and it was a nasty one. With no 145-pound contenders in sight, Cris Cyborg plans to shed some muscle and dominate at bantamweight in the future.

Former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver suffered a knockout loss on Friday night at the first Resurrection Fighting Alliance event in Kearney, Nebraska, making it the 10th time Pulver has lost in his last 14 fights.

This time it was an opponent named Tim Elliot who beat Pulver, and after the fight Pulver wrote on Twitter that he realized he didn’t look good in the cage on Friday night.

“Sorry to all who support me, I half assed the training and got wrecked deservedly so,” Pulver wrote.

The 37-year-old Pulver looked OK in the first round, but in the second Elliot backed him up with a combination of punches, hit him with a front kick and then finished him with a knee to the chin. Pulver slumped face-first to the canvas after that knee, and referee Big John McCarthy stepped in to stop the fight.

Pulver was cut by the WEC last year after losing five fights in a row, the last four coming by first-round stoppage. After taking a big step down in competition and fighting on regional cards, Pulver managed to win three fights this year, but the knockout loss to Elliot raises questions about whether he should be competing at any level.

The RFA card also featured the light heavyweight debut of former UFC heavyweight Gilbert Yvel, who won by first-round TKO.

Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem Predict Pain in the UFC 141 Extended Video Preview

(Video via MMA Mania)

Brock Lesnar: “He’s in over his head. He doesn’t really understand the beast that he’s gonna enter the Octagon with…I’m gonna defeat Alistair Overeem. That’s the bottom line, and there’s nothing else to say…At the end of the day, he’s gonna get his ass beat…it’s gonna come down to will, and who wants this fight more, and Brock Lesnar wants this fight more than Alistair Overeem.”

Alistair Overeem: “I’m gonna tear this guy apart, piece by piece…I’m gonna beat up Brock Lesnar, and it’s gonna take me no more than two rounds to do that…Brock definitely doesn’t like to get hit. I’m gonna hit him, and I’m gonna hit him as hard as I can. And I’m pretty good at it…I would put my money on a knockout in the first round, but personally I can guarantee a knockout in the second…If you guys think Cain Velasquez hits hard, wait ’til you see what I’m gonna do to him.”

The UFC 141 video trailer also previews the lightweight feature between Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone. It seems there’s already a bit of tension between the two (starting at the 6:53 mark)…

Cerrone: “Really the only personal interaction I’ve had with Nate [was] at the open workout prior to this fight. I walk over to be like, “hey man, what’s going on,” shake his hand…”

Diaz: “Yeah, he shouldn’t have done that. He’s in my bracket, we’re gonna fight each other.”

Cerrone: “…he slaps my hand away, and calls me a punkass and walks off.”

Diaz: “You go your way, I’ll go mine.”

Cerrone: “You wanna talk shit to me, you’re just gonna enrage me and piss me off. So feed my fuckin’ flame, that’s how I say it, let’s go…I’m just as game as you are. You don’t have to be from Stockton to be tough.”

UFC 141 goes down December 30th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Video: Don Frye Loses His Latest Comeback Fight Against Warpath Villareal

(Props: sitthongsai via CP reader Andrew W.)

On Sunday, 46-year-old MMA old-schooler Don Frye competed at a Gladiator Challenge event in Lincoln, California, making his first cage appearance since a one-minute TKO loss to Dave Herman in 2009. This one lasted a little longer, but ended the same way, with Don eating punches until he fell over. Poor Don.

Frye was originally supposed to face Mike Gonzales, but ended up throwing leather with journeyman Ruben “Warpath” Villareal; Frye and Warpath had previously fought to a draw at a King of the Cage event back in 2006. Villareal didn’t leave it to the judges this time, KO’ing Frye about two-and-a-half minutes into the fight. The win snapped a five-fight losing streak for Warpath, and earned him the Gladiator Challenge light-heavyweight title.

MMA Wrap-Up: UFC 140 Edition

UFC 140 was an arm-snapping, face-smashing good time for some, but the main event saw Jon Jones finish another former champ before finally turning the boos to cheers, at least for the moment. Now the MMA Wrap-Up returns to ask what it will take for fans to actually get behind the dominant light heavyweight champ. Trust me, it’s good fun. Even if it’s not, it’ll all be over in a couple minutes, so how bad could it be? Don’t answer that.
