Watch the insane KO many are calling Muay Thai’s “Knockout of the Year”:

There isn’t a high-level mixed martial arts event on tap for this weekend, but there have been some amazing knockouts in other combat sports nonetheless.

Bellator phenom Michael ‘Venom’ Page scored his second boxing triumph with a crushing knockout from Great Britain today, yet that pales in comparison to  KO that many are discussing as Muay Thai’s “Knockout of the Year.”

Chalawan Por Onnut met Rambong Leesorkanka in a 119-pound affairyesterday in Thailand, and he scored the vicious KO with a kick you don’t see too often.

Throwback: Georges St-Pierre Trains With Muay Thai Legend John Wayne Parr

For awhile now everyone has been speculating as to if and when Georges St-Pierre would make a return to the cage. As it stands, the clock is still ticking and we all know that time waits for no man. If Georges St-Pierre hopes to make a return to action and remain competitive against the best fighters on the planet then he’s going to need to bust his ass in the gym and get the ball rolling before it’s too late.

While it may seem like the UFC is passing Georges St-Pierre by, the reality of the situation is that he could very well make a comeback and still be competitive against the more talented fighters in the welterweight division. The throwback post below of the former welterweight champ hitting pads with muay thai kickboxing legend John Wayne Parr can give even the most cynical of MMA fans some hope that we’ll once again see Georges St-Pierre giving it his all to battle it out in the cage.

Over the course of the sport’s short history, Thailand’s revered Muay Thai kickboxing has become one of the most common and successful bases from which to transfer to MMA.

While we’ve learned that having skills in only one discipline is not a recipe for success in the modern version of MMA, many fighters with a focus on “the art of eight limbs” have found incredible success in the Octagon.

Originating in Thailand, where a booming professional scene still flourishes, Muay Thai is now used by combatants from all over the world.

This piece aims to rank the ten best fighters employing the striking style today. Devastating clinch work, slashing elbows, whipping kicks, and crushing knees all could gain a fighter entry to this list, as well as a traditional Muay Thai background. Those that use them to the most damaging effect, rely on them as fundamental to their games, and utilize a combination of these characteristic techniques set themselves apart and climb the ranks.

This is not an all-time list. That may come later. This one looks at the fighters on the current UFC roster most likely to finish a fight from the thai plum, break someone’s nose with a standing elbow, or send an opponent crashing to the canvas with a knee to the solar plexus.

Continue for the list of the best Muay Thai kickboxers in the UFC.

Must-See Video: 17-Year-Old Sangmanee Sor Tienpo and Hong Thanonchai Engage in an Instant Muay Thai Classic

ICYMI: Here’s an absolute banger of a muay Thai fight between 17 year old phenom Sangmanee Sor Tienpo (red shorts) and tough as nails journeyman Hong Thanonchai Tor Sangtiennoi (blue shorts) that went down last week. I’ll let BloodyElbow’s Kyle McLachlan brief you on the significance of this absolutely incredible fight:

Sangmanee, once considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, is a four weight stadium champion. He has won the 105lb Lumpinee championship, and the Rajadamnern title at 108, 112 and 115lbs. A true phenom, he is a technical fighter with very good hands who has aspirations of representing Thailand in amateur boxing at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

2014 looked to be a great year of continued success for Sangmanee. He won the one-night four man tournament put on by Petyindee promotions, in which he came out on top of three of the very best fighters in Muay Thai today (Superbank, Superlek and Sam-A) but since then he has gone on the very worst run of his career, being dropped by a big punch and losing to Sam-A, then losing decisions to Thaksinlek Kiatniwat in both May and June.

Yesterdays bout was a quick turnaround for Sangmanee, and Thanonchai, a very strong competitor who has faced many top fighters in the 126lb division, was likely to be a stern test but a way to get back on track for Muay Thai’s teenage superstar.

Without giving too much away, let’s just say that the fight wasn’t nearly as easy for Sor Tienpo as it was supposed to be.

So…(Muay Thai) Brawl of the Year? Muay Thai Brawl of the Year. #WeekofDanga

Meet Ramadan Ondash, The Five-Year-Old Muay Thai Juggernaut Who Could Whip Your Ass

This morning, I saw a video clip of a nasty 40-pounder doing padwork with an intensity I can only dream of, and I had to find out who that little beast was. Turns out, he’s a five-year-old from Lebanon named Ramadan Ondash, who was trained by his older brother Ahmad Ondash, a Muay Thai coach. And that’s pretty much all I could find out. But if the UFC still exists in 15 years, watch out for this kid.

After the jump: Two more videos of Ramadan Ondash in action from last year — when he was four — including some gnarly ground-and-pound in the second clip.

“I’m a Muay Thai fighter. She’s an MMA fighter,” Baars told MMAFighting.com after the fight. “I will beat her. That’s every opponent, I will beat them. It’s my sport. It’s my style…[Cyborg] is strong and she has power. But it’s not the hardest punch I’ve gotten hit with.”
