Muhammad Ali’s grandson, Biaggio Ali Walsh, is set to make his debut in mixed martial arts this weekend.

Ali Walsh will make his first walk to the octagon on Fusion Fight League’s Rumble Under the Rims card this Friday, June 3. His brother, Nico Ali Walsh is also into combat sports, following in the footsteps of his grandfather. Nico competes as a professional boxer and has gone undefeated in his first five fights as a middleweight. He is trained by Tyson Fury’s trainer, Sugarhill Steward.

Muhammad Ali grandson slated for MMA debut

Biaggio has an athletic background having competed in collegiate football before finding his calling for MMA. The 23-year-old is excited to make the switch and feels more “positive” in his new venture.

“I have been training MMA for a total of about two, two-and-a-half years now. COVID hit shortly after I began training so there was obviously a little delay but I worked out in the garage during that time.

“After college football I felt very lost and didn’t like where my life was heading. Pursuing MMA makes me feel more emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally positive,” Biaggio told FITE.

Being a grandson of the late, great Muhammad Ali comes with its own pressures and assumptions. Biaggio acknowledges the role of boxing in his upbringing stating that it makes him more of a stand-up striker in the cage but argues against the idea of not being well-rounded.

“I would say that growing up in the world of boxing would make me a striker but I do find myself pretty well-rounded. I began training with no specific base and started learning all the disciplines at the same time. I did no previous combat sports before MMA. I was always just a huge fan of martial arts and boxing,” Ali Walsh said.

Biaggio wants to continue tradition set by Muhammad Ali

Biaggio Ali Walsh has experience in the modeling industry in recent years. He revealed his last gig was over two years ago and while he’s open to a good opportunity if it presents itself, he will remain more focused on being a fighter.

“There is no balance between modelling and training because I am rarely ever modelling,” Biaggio said. “My last modelling job was in 2020 so those type of gigs do not happen so often. I am solely focused on finishing college and getting better in the gym. If a paid modelling job were to come up, I want to make sure it works around my school and gym schedule.”

The Chicago-native who currently trains at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas has only one ambition, to continue the tradition set by Muhammad Ali for the family.

“I want to become a champion. To be it doesn’t matter the organisation or promotion. I just want to make a name for myself and continue the tradition of fighting in my family.”

UFC welterweight Randy Brown gave credit to boxing legend Muhammad Ali for his win over Khaos Williams to open up the UFC 274 main card.

Brown earned a split decision win over Williams to capture his third-straight victory. He’s five of his last six fights overall, including most recently against Jared Gooden last October.

Brown’s boxing was a sight to behold in his victory over Williams. He used solid defensive work to go with opportunistic striking late in the fight to secure the win.

During his UFC 274 post-fight press conference, Brown revealed that he made Ali’s boxing career a major part of his fight preparation.

“It was fun, I went in there and did my thing. Big, bad, powerful monster. Khaos with the power. It’s reminiscent of Ali/Frazier. Ali/Foreman type,” Brown said. “All weekend, I’d been listening to Ali talk, watching the buildup to that fight. So in my mind, I went in there and said ‘ox vs. matador’. He was the ox, I was the matador. That was the mindset. Be light, be a butterfly, float. Do what I do.”

Brown went on to clarify that he wasn’t trying to copy Ali, and instead simply paid homage to his accomplishments.

“I wasn’t trying to emulate Muhammad Ali at all. I just took inspiration from the quotes and the things that he said, the fact that he was going up against a big bruiser or a puncher. Similar to the opponent I went up against. If you watch my career and watch my game, I’m from a boxing background. I try to be as slick as possible.”

Brown appears to be hitting his stride after an up-and-down start to his UFC tenure. He earned a shot in the UFC after impressing UFC President Dana White following a win over Robert Plotkin to retain the Ring of Combat welterweight title during the Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight show in 2015.

Ali continues to be the inspiration to many combat sports athletes in boxing and MMA, including Brown. He is arguably the greatest boxer of all time and one of the most influential athletes who transcended sports.

Fresh off his fifth professional victory last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada – undefeated professional boxer, Nico Ali Walsh, the grandson of former heavyweight champion, the late, Muhammad Ali was invited to another former boxing great’s pigeon fancying collection; Mike Tyson.

Walsh, who managed to land his fifth consecutive victory with an opening round knockout win over Alejandro Ibarra at the end of April – scored his fourth career knockout triumph to boot.

The win followed prior career victories for Walsh over the quartet of Jeremiah Yeager, Reyes Sanchez, James Westley II, and Jordan Weeks. Walsh made his professional debut back in August of last year.

Walsh, the nephew of fellow professional boxer, Laila Ali, and the grandson of the above mentioned, Muhammad Ali was recently invited to the ranch of former heavyweight champion and revered knockout artist, Tyson – who demonstrated to handle and hold pigeons, as well as snatching one from the coop after handing it to Walsh.

“Mike Tyson inviting Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh to see his pigeons…” Reporter, Michael Benson tweeted accompanied by the pair’s meeting.

Recently in the news himself, former boxing champion, Mike Tyson was involved in a physical altercation on a flight where he was video punching and striking another male who is alleged to have harassed him before the plane left the runway in San Francisco. Tyson will not face any charges for his part in the physical altercation.

“We have reviewed the police reports of the San Francisco Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and have viewed the various videos collected by law enforcement from others on the plane,” The San Mateo County District Attorney, Steven Wagstaffe said in a statement released. “Our decision is that we will not file any charges against Mr. (Mike) Tyson based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.”

“These include the conduct of the victim leading up to the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson that no charges be filed in this case.’

Nico Ali, Muhammad Ali

Nico Ali Walsh, a grandson of Muhammad Ali, has extended his unbeaten run to five with a brutal knockout win over Alejandro Ibarra in the first round.

Boxing legend Ali’s grandson has had a promising start in his professional boxing career. This past Saturday, Nico Ali Walsh took on Alejandro Ibarra on the undercard of Shakur Stevenson vs Oscar Valdez at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. The 21-year-old boxer is the son of Rasheda Ali, the second oldest of the boxing legend’s nine children.

Check out the first-round KO below.

Coming into the fight with an unblemished record of four victories, Nico added another knockout to his previous three KO wins with a hard-hitting overhand that sent Ibarra crashing down to the canvas.

This marked the second defeat for Ibarra in nine professional bouts. Walsh paid a tribute to his late grandfather following the win.

Nico Ali shared how his mother Rasheda gets emotional watching him compete because of his likeness to the late Ali.

“This is just a testament to all the work I put in. Stuff like this happens when you put the work in. I’m bringing my grandpa back to life, and that’s why mum gets so emotional because she’s seeing her dad again and hearing her dad’s name to me,” he said.

Historic night for boxing

In addition to witnessing the incredible first-round KO by Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali, April 30 marked a very important night in the history of boxing.

Irish pioneer Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano became the first two female boxers to headline the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York. The two athletes went to war in a close-fought contest reminiscent of Hagler-Hearns that had the roaring crowd on its feet throughout the bout.

Their 10-round affair will surely go down as one of the greatest boxing fights ever as Taylor managed to recover from a midway knockdown to defend her titles.

With performances like the one we got to see last Saturday, Nico Ali could very well be heading on the way to headlining MSG himself given he racks up an impressive record ahead.

Khabib Nurmagomedov

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has reacted to “inappropriate” comparisons between him and heavyweight boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

In a recent interview with TRT World, the undefeated Russian fighter was asked by a reporter about fans who compare him to Ali and if he liked this comparison.

“I think comparing Ali and me is probably wrong,” Nurmagomedov replied. “Only if we talk about the fact that we are both champions and both Muslims. But all the thing she did outside of the ring with this I cannot be compared.”

Nurmagomedov says he cannot be compared to Ali who had to face racial hatred in American during his time as champion.

“Indeed, at the time when he was a champion, he was… another race. And at that time in America, black people were treated badly. And according to his stories, he was not even served in restaurants. He threw away the gold medal. He changed the attitude towards his race very much. So we cannot be compared.”

“To be able to compare me with him (Ali), I need to go back to those years and be black. And be a champion. After we would see how I would behave in such a situation. In this case, we could be compared.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Despite believing the comparisons between him and Ali are “inappropriate” Nurmagomedov is happy that fans would wish to compare him to one of the best combat athletes of all-time.

“I like that people compare us but, I think it’s inappropriate,” he concluded.

Nurmagomedov will attempt to unify the lightweight division for the second time in as many fights when he squares off against interim champion, Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 on October 24. It’ll be the first time Nurmagomedov has competed inside the Octagon since losing his father earlier this year.
