Nick Diaz will be due back in court very soon.

After the enigmatic fan favorite was arrested on felony and misdemeanor counts of domestic battery last Friday (May 25, 2018), a court representative confirmed to MMA Fighting that Diaz was due to appear before judge Amy Chelini at 8:30 a.m. on June 6.

Diaz was booked on domestic battery by strangulation and domestic battery in the first degree charges, the first of which is a felony, and was released from the Clark County Detention Center after making $18,000 bail on Friday night.

According to Larry Hadfield, a spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, police had probable cause to arrest Diaz after police had been dispatched to a Las Vegas home. Tonight, the LVMPD released his mugshot:

Diaz has been out of action since he lost a unanimous decision to Anderson Silva at UFC 183 in 2015, a result that was changed to a no contest when Silva tested positive for elevated testosterone levels. Diaz also tested positive for marijuana metabolites and was initially suspended five years for the repeat offense, a suspension that has long since expired.

Diaz also recently saw a one-year whereabouts suspension from USADA expire. His issues with the UFC’s anti-doping partner would appear to be trivial compared to his pending legal case, however.

The UFC has responded to Nick Diaz’ arrest on felony and misdemeanor domestic violence charges today.

After word broke this morning that Diaz had been detained at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, following an alleged violent incident involving a female where Diaz supposedly became confrontational with 12 police officers who had been dispatched to the crime, it didn’t look good for the longtime fan favorite.

But a different side of the story soon came from one of Diaz’ friends who claimed to have inside knowledge of the situation, causing the alleged crime to become murky with uncertainty and doubt. Diaz has been out of the octagon for over three years, yet in this case it appeared his freedom was potentially on the line with such violent and serious charges being leveled at him. Las Vegas police will stage their own investigation, but Diaz’ employers at the UFC are planning to conduct their own probe into the dire matter.

They declared as much in a statement on their official website:

“UFC is aware of the recent arrest of middleweight athlete, Nick Diaz. The organization does not tolerate domestic violence and requires all athletes to adhere to the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. Every athlete is deserving of due process and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be duly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party.”

A former Strikeforce welterweight champion, Diaz has been out of action since he lost to Anderson Silva in January 2015, a fight which was eventually declared a no contest after Silva tested positive for elevated testosterone and Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites.

He’s remained near the peak of MMA headlines ever since, but few if any concrete info about him actually returning has arisen. He was recently cleared to fight after agreeing to a retroactive one-year suspension from USADA for a whereabouts violation, a suspension that didn’t really matter considering he wasn’t set to compete at any point during it.

They claim to be hard on domestic violence in their Fight Conduct Policy, but the UFC has shown an inconsistent attitude towards the touchy subject in dealing with fighters like Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson, Michael Johnson, and Abel Trujillo. There’s a lot of doubt surrounding Diaz’ arrest, but if he is found guilty of any of his charges, it would be a pivotal moment in how they deal with the issue.

This is just one of those times when ‘we’ll see what happens’ as a certain polarizing UFC exec loves to say. Stay tuned fans.

The whole mixed martial arts world was dealt some disappointing news earlier today when word arrived that fan favorite Nick Diaz had been arrested and incarcerated on domestic violence charges in Las Vegas.

The shocking scene where Diaz was charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic battery were only made worse by reports that Diaz had become combative with the 12 officers dispatched to a scene where the female involved was reportedly hospitalized.

A call to the jail where Diaz was allegedly being held confirmed that he was indeed there, and the speculation began to run rampant concerning just what had happened in the rumored attack.

The charges certainly looked frightening for Diaz, who has been out of the octagon since early 2015, but Diaz’ good friend Matt Staudt brought forth some alleged details of the alleged attack in a recent post to his Instagram account. According to him, the woman Diaz allegedly attacked been stalking him for years and called him literally thousands of times a day, prompting a suggestion that the charges were not what they may seem to be.

I’ve seen drunk guys get in Nick’s face and avoid serious injury because he’s a martial artist and a killer but knows that and he’s passed the point of needing to prove it. Moving on, the girl who is accusing him is the most deranged and insane I’ve met to date. She has been obsessed with and stalked Nick for maybe 2 years now. Suicide attempts, calls to his family from fake numbers, thousand of calls a day – yes thousands, showing up everywhere he goes following his story… He changed his number to get away but Vegas is small and they crossed paths again. She left their interaction feeling some type of way yesterday and put in a fake report to get even and have him arrested which she’s threatened to do many times before as well. I can’t even fully digest this whole thing because of how insane and wrong it is. If Nick’s at fault it is because he has chosen again and again and again not to make a police report against her like I’ve advised profusely in the past when she has hit him or broke his phone or broke into his place or stolen things from him or threatened suicide, etc. Everyone is going to think what they think when they see the news so it’s very important for me to at least put something out that is actually factual. #fakenews”
