This can be attributed to the deep wrestling base that many of the fighters in the division have, making them some of the toughest fighters to finish with the most grueling styles of fighting.

UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre has a hard time finishing many of his opponents, and it’s the same for many of the other fighters ranked throughout the division.

This is a list ranking the top eight chins in the welterweight division, some of which could even be top 10 throughout the entire sport.

Nate Diaz Drops to Lightweight to Face Takanori Gomi at UFC 135

After suffering back-to-back decision defeats in his last two fights against Dong Hyun Kim and Rory MacDonald, Nate Diaz will be dropping back to his original home at lightweight, according to UFC.com. Diaz’s return opponent will be Japanese MMA icon Takanori Gomi at UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage, September 24th in Denver. Gomi is coming off a submission loss to Clay Guida at UFC 125 in January, and has gone 1-2 overall in his current stint with the UFC.

Nate’s brother Nick previously faced Gomi at PRIDE 33 in one of the greatest bouts in MMA history; Diaz wore Gomi down in a gritty slugfest before tapping him in round 2 via gogoplata. The win was overturned and ruled a no-contest when Diaz tested positive for marijuana in a post-fight drug test. But come on, bro, we all saw what happened.

The Diaz brothers already have three opponents in common. Nick has scored victories over Joe Hurley (sub R1), Koji Oishi (KO R1), and Josh Neer (sub R3), while Nate has gone 2-1 against the same opposition, dropping a decision to Oishi in his second pro fight before defeating Joe Hurley (sub R2) and Josh Neer (split dec.).

A month after Nate takes on Gomi, Nick will challenge Georges St. Pierre for the UFC’s welterweight title.

UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre will meet Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz in one of the biggest matches of the year.

St-Pierre, 22-2, is currently on a nine-fight winning streak while Diaz is riding a 10-fight win streak.

Despite Diaz being a tough fighter, many predict he will become another victim of St-Pierre. Some may also believe St-Pierre could move to middleweight . Here are some reasons why they may be right.

Cesar Gracie Gives His Thoughts on Nick Diaz vs. Georges St-Pierre

While it hasn’t been officially made, the upcoming title bout between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz at UFC 137 is generating a lot of discussion and interest from observers and fans within the mixed martial arts community; Cesar Gracie in particular.

The renowned coach, and head trainer of Nick Diaz, sat down with MiddleEasy.com, courtesy of LowKick.com, and gave his thoughts on the bout involving the two welterweights.

“Everbody that Strikeforce brought in, like the Paul Daley’s of the world and these really tough guys, Nick (Diaz) beat convincingly,” Gracie said.

Gracie also said that Diaz is a recognizable name, who fans can identify easily, and understands how beneficial it is for the Strikeforce welterweight champion to transition into the UFC in order to compete against the the top 170 lb fighters.

Gracie spoke highly of Diaz, mentioning that all of his fights are never boring. It is why fans have requested to see the Stockton, Calif. native challenge St-Pierre.

“The fans kind of demanded it,” he said.

“They want to see Nick (Diaz) versus the guys in the UFC; maybe Nick versus whoever, because there is never an unexciting, boring Nick (Diaz) fight.”

Gracie also explains the situation regarding Diaz’s teammate and Strikeforce lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez, and his wishes to fight in the UFC, as well.

Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos Likely for November 19 Card in San Jose

It appears UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will defend his title for the first time against Junior dos Santos on Nov. 19 at San Jose’s HP Pavilion.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting they were given news of the bout by UFC chairman Lorenzo Fertitta on Thursday.

Velasquez has not fought since he won the title from Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 on Oct. 23, 2010. The 28-year-old Velasquez dominated Lesnar, winning by TKO at the 4:12 mark of Round 1. The win took Velasquez’s record to 9-0 with eight of those decisions coming via KO or TKO.

Velasquez injured his shoulder at some point during his fight with Lesnar. The newly-crowned champion was forced to undergo surgery for the injury—a torn rotator cuff—in January.

His opponent on the Nov. 19 card, according to the Times, will be Junior dos Santos. Dos Santos defeated Shane Carwin June 11 at UFC 131, giving the former UFC interim heavyweight champion a brutal beating and forcing Carwin to take a trip to the emergency room following the fight.

The victory moved dos Santos’ record to 13-1 with only three of those fights, including his last two, going the distance.

Dos Santos originally opened as a slight favorite when the fight odds were announced; since that time, most websites are now listing Velasquez as the favorite.
