Nate Diaz made a surprise appearance inside the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night to take in the festivities at Noche UFC.

Almost exactly one year removed from his last appearance inside the Octagon, Nate Diaz surprised fans with an appearance at the promotion’s stacked event to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

Accompanying Nate Diaz at Noche UFC was his wife Misty Brown. For those unfamiliar, Diaz and Brown share two daughters together. Their first, Nikayla was born in June 2018 with their second coming in August 2022.

Is Nate Diaz Gearing Up for a Return to the Octagon?

It was Nate Diaz’s first big public appearance since falling short in his pro boxing debut against social media sensation Jake Paul in August. Of course, his appearance immediately had fans pondering whether or not the ‘Stockton Samurai’ would be making a return to the UFC. Diaz, who left the promotion on less-than-amicable terms, has been very adamant regarding his desire to return to the Las Vegas-based promotion once he was able to cash in on a big-money fight inside the squared circle.

Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but should the opportunity present itself for Diaz to return and complete his trilogy with Irish megastar Conor McGregor, we can’t see the UFC passing up on that opportunity to practically print an endless amount of money.

Initially, it looked like Nate Diaz would actually run back his entertaining scrap with Jake Paul in MMA after ‘The Problem Child’ offered the TUF alumnus a cool $10 million to do the match in the PFL Smart Cage. It now appears that those talks have broken down leaving Diaz as a free agent to do whatever he pleases.

Split draw between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko left UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby dumbfounded

Alexa Grasso

UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby was left just as confused as everyone else by the controversial split draw that allowed Alexa Grasso to keep ahold of the flyweight world title on Saturday night.

Headling Noche UFC inside a packed T-Mobile Arena, Alexa Grasso put her 125-pound title on the line for the very first time against the same woman she took the gold from, Valentina Shevchenko. Throughout the 25-minute affair, both women put on an instant classic that could have gone either way. Unfortunately, fight fans were treated to yet another controversial decision as Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer revealed that the bout was ruled a split draw, allowing Grasso to retain her title.

In a clip making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby can be seen brandishing a look of pure confusion after being informed of the decision by Buffer seconds before he addressed the live crowd.

Is Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko Trilogy Bout the Next Move to Make?

The split draw ruling came as a result of MMA judge Mike Bell awarding Alexa Grasso a 10-8 in the fifth round of the bout. Everybody on hand, including commentators Jon Anik, Dominick Cruz, and Daniel Cormier, was left completely confused by the decision and the 10-8 score. Had Bell scored the round a much more understandable 10-9 in favor of Grasso, Valentina Shevchenko would have found herself favored on two of the three scorecards, making her a two-time flyweight world champion.

Instead, Alexa Grasso will retain the title and the flyweight division could potentially find itself held up even further as the UFC decides whether or not they are going to complete the trilogy.

Do you want to see Grasso vs. Shevchenko 3 or is it time for the flyweight division to move on and give another fighter in the division a shot at UFC gold?

Retaining her undisputed flyweight championship and receiving massive plaudits for doing so, undisputed division champion, Alexa Grasso manages to remain weight class gold holder come the conclusion of Noche UFC tonight, fighting ex-champion Valentina Shevchenko to a split draw decision in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Grasso, who managed to clinch the undisputed flyweight crown from Shevchenko in a massive upset win back in March, handed the veteran her first defeat at the weight class in a rallying third round neck crank submission win.

And tonight, once more leaving ‘Sin City’ with a championship in tow, Guadalajara managed to retain her title on Mexican Independence Day no less, courtesy of a split decision draw at the T-Mobile Arena.

Causing concern for Shevchenko more than once, who again elected to utilize her grappling ability, Grasso would drop the Kyrgyzstan native with a big right hand straight in the second, sending the latter reeling and tumbling backwards.

Rosas Jr., who saw his brief promotional-perfect run come to a halt last time out, dropped a one-sided decision loss to Christian Rodriguez at UFC 287 back in April.

Tracy Cortez

When Tracy Cortez makes her way to the Octagon for Noche UFC on Saturday night, she’ll do so sporting some fresh and very form-fitting gear courtesy of her employer.

Tracy Cortez, who currently carries an undefeated record under the UFC banner, will return after more than a year on the shelf clash with division standout Jasmine Jasudavicius. Ahead of her eagerly-awaited return to action, Cortez was spotted via a video clip shared by ESPN MMA on X showing off the new UFC fight kits courtesy of its partnership with Venum.

Fight fans online were very enthusiastic about the new fight kits, though we suspect that it had more to do with who was modeling them than the design itself.

Tracy Cortez Looks to Make it Five Straight Inside the Octagon

Tracy Cortez has emerged as a fan favorite in recent years despite her fights being few and far between. After scoring a unanimous decision victory against Mariya Agapova on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019, Cortez has only fought four times, earning wins against Vanessa Melo, Stephanie Egger, Justine Kish, and Melissa Gatto. Her last victory came in May 2022. Prior to that, she had not competed since April 2021. Cortez currently sits in the No. 14 spot on the flyweight rankings.

Hoping to hand Tracy Cortez her first loss inside the Octagon will be Jasmine Jasudavicius. Ready to break into the flyweight division’s top 15, Jasudavicius goes into the contest riding a two-fight win streak, scoring victories over Gabriella Fernandes and Miranda Maverick. Thus far she is 3-1 in the UFC, her lone loss coming against Natália Silva last year.

Both women will certainly have their eye on the main event of the evening as the women’s flyweight title is up for grabs in a rematch between reigning world champion Alexa Grasso and division staple Valentina Shevchenko. Grasso scored a stunning fourth-round submission over ‘Bullet’ at UFC 285 to capture her first piece of UFC gold. Now she’s ready to prove to the world that her win was no fluke.

Noche UFC will air live starting at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN+ in the United States.
