Alexa Grasso took a dig at Valentina Shevchenko’s status as a 17-time Muay Thai world champion.
Both women appeared as part of an athlete panel ahead of their highly anticipated scrap on Saturday night at Noche UFC. Grasso and Shevchenko will headline the evening’s festivities, running back their UFC 285 clash that saw Grasso score a massive upset via a fourth-round rear-naked choke submission.
Speaking about her strategy going into the sequel bout, Alexa Grasso revealed that her goal would be to keep the fight standing and strike despite her last victory coming on the canvas.
“I love striking fights. I do everything I can to keep the fight on the feet and I was doing pretty well,” Grasso said. “The first round was amazing. I was doing pretty well so I’m going to bring everything an amazing fight this Saturday night.”
"Being a muay Thai champion, I thought you wanted to be on the striking with me, but you decided to go to the ground."
Shevchenko Reminds Everyone of Her Accomplishments in Combat Sports
Valentina Shevchenko was quick to snap back at Grasso’s comments, reminding the world that she is a multi-time Muay Thai champion in addition to her plethora of accomplishments inside the Octagon.
“I want to remind everyone [that I’m] a 17-time world Muay Thai champion,” Shevchenko said. “Seven title defenses and you cannot get rid of this. It’s going to stay in you forever. You can be better. You can make an adjustment or whatever you want to do, but the power, the confidence, and the experience is still here and it’s gonna explode on Saturday.”
Alexa Grasso took the opportunity to throw some shade at Shevchenko, questioning why the 17-time Muay Thai champion chose to grapple with her instead of putting her striking skills on display in their March meeting.
“Being a Muay Thai champion, I thought you wanted to strike with me, but you decided to ground to the ground,” Grasso added. “Fourth round, I made a lot of adjustments.

Attempting to successfully defend her newly-minted flyweight championship this weekend atop of a Noche UFC event in ‘Sin City’, Mexican fan-favorite, Alexa Grasso faces another massive prospect in the form of her rematch with ex-champion, Valentina Shevchenko, closing fastly as a betting underdog to retain her crown on Mexican Independence Day.
Grasso, who has since managed to clinch the status as the number one pound-for-pound female fighter under the banner of the UFC, managed to turn in a shocking upset title win in a year of earth-shattering underdog victories just earlier this year back in March.
The start time for Alexa Grasso vs Valentina Shevchenko 2, Noche UFC at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has the prelims beginning at 7pm ET and the main card commencing at 10 pm ET. Noche UFC event marks the celebration of Mexican Independence Day.
Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko 2 Betting Odds at Noche UFC
However, despite her rallying effort to submit the dominant Kyrgyzstan native and end her perfect run at the flyweight limit, Grasso is closing significantly as a +140 betting underdog with Betway to repeat that feat this weekend and defeat Shevchenko, this time as defending champion.
Seeing her nine-fight successful title defense run halted by Lobo Gym staple, Grasso back in March, Betway have still placed striking sensation, Shevchenko as a -175 betting favorite to beat Grasso, avenge her sole flyweight loss and reclaim the divisional title this weekend atop Noche UFC.
As far as finishes are concerned between the two, Shevchenko, who has displayed both her striking and grappling chops to much acclaim during her run with the UFC, is available currently as a -350 to defeat Grasso via KO, TKO, or by disqualification this weekend – while the champion is sat at +1,2000 to win via strikes or disqualification.
While Shevchenko sits as a -350 betting favorite to win via strikes, Grasso has landed odds of -350 to herself land a second career win over Shevchenko by way of submission this weekend in her first attempt title defense.
Another exciting fight which features on the main card of Noche UFC this weekend comes in the form of a co-headlining clash at welterweight between the streaking promotional-perfect contender, Jack Della Maddalena, and fan-favorite striker, Kevin Holland.
Exploding on the UFC scene since his arrival from Dana White’s Contender Series, Australian challenger, Della Maddalena is closing as a close -160 betting favorite to defeat the +120 betting underdog, Holland in their pivotal welterweight clash, despite his close split decision win over Bassil Hafez back in July on short-notice.
Exciting bantamweight prospect, Raul Rosas Jr. also makes his comeback to the Octagon on the main card of Noche UFC this weekend, attending to avenge his first professional mixed martial arts loss as he takes on Terrence Mitchell.
Suffering a decision loss to Christian Rodriguez back in April at UFC 287, the dynamic striking and grappling prospect has taken some time off from active competition ahead of his return – and is closing currently as a whopping -800 betting favorite to beat the +500 betting underdog, Mitchell, as the latter makes his first-ever Octagon appearance.

Ahead of his Noche UFC return this weekend, fan-favorite welterweight contender, Kevin Holland has claimed he has no real interest in winning a championship during his Octagon tenure, questioning the media’s apparent interest in the constant revolving door of a title’s location and holder.
Holland, the current number thirteen ranked welterweight contender, is slated to make his third Octagon walk of the year, taking on surging Australian contender, Jack Della Maddalena in a high-profile co-main event clash at Noche UFC.
Kevin Holland claims he’s not “worried” about winning a UFC championship
And whilst once in the midst of an impressive run at middleweight, which led him to a title-eliminator with Marvin Vettori – which he ultimately lost, Holland remained coy on the possibility of him eventually winning Octagon spoils ahead of Noche UFC, questioning an apparent media obsession with the championship.
“Why are you guys so focused on the f*cking belt all the time?” Kevin Holland asked assembled media ahead of his Noche UFC return. “Excuse my language, but why are you so focused on the belt? I just told you I’m not worried about the belt then you go back and repeat ask me about the belt.”
“I’m not worried about the belt,” Kevin Holland explained. “Why are you so worried about the belt? You don’t even fight for a living, why are you so worried about the belt? That’s the ultimate answer you need. Maybe I’m getting pay-per-view points. You don’t know, right?”

Valentina Shevchenko is hell-bent on reclaiming the UFC flyweight title that she believes is rightfully hers.
On September 16, ‘Bullet’ will attempt to bounce back after suffering her first loss in more than five years. Stepping into the co-main event at UFC 285 earlier this year, Shevchenko shockingly surrendered her gold to Alex Grasso after succumbing to a fourth-round rear-naked choke submission. Seven months later, the pair will run it back at Noche UFC.
As fight week approaches, Shevchenko sat down with James Lynch in a LowKick MMA exclusive interview to discuss her mindset going into the highly anticipated title tilt. Asked if she was focusing on a specific aspect of her game going into the rematch, ‘Bullet’ revealed that her training has been business as usual.
“It’s everything. Everything as usual because in MMA, it’s a complete fight style,” Shevchenko said. “You are and I am complete MMA fighters. I have to focus on everything in terms of wins and losses to the best of [my ability]. I cannot focus on only one thing and then in the fight, something changed and I’m not prepared. The fighter who fights on a high level of competition has to work on everything.”
Valentina Shevchenko Offers Her Prediction for Rematch with Alexa Grasso
To prepare, Shevchenko has been honing her skills at the iconic Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand. There, ‘Bullet’ feels like she’s been able to get back to the roots of what eventually grew into her becoming one of the most dangerous women in mixed martial arts.
“It’s kind of like when you are reviving everything from the beginning and it’s kinda like the same when you’re going back to the place where you were growing up,” Shevchenko continued. “You remember your feelings on this journey to become the best. To become the greatest. And definitely, all these emotions wake you up and say, ‘Okay, this is what you have to feel. This is what you have to do.’”
As for how she sees things playing out, Valentina Shevchenko is determined to destroy Alex Grasso and reclaim the flyweight crown in emphatic fashion when she returns to Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
“I go there for the victory. I go there to destroy my opponent,” Shevchenko said. “I go there not to joke around. I go there to take what is mine and show not the best version of me but the greatest version of me.”

Former undisputed flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko is firmly gearing up for her Octagon return later this month in the main event of Noche UFC – and claims Alexa Grasso is not destined to echo history and land a submission win, claiming such a stoppage “will not happen ever again” against her.
Shevchenko, the current number one ranked flyweight contender, is scheduled to make her Octagon return at Noche UFC later this month – headlining a ‘Fight Night’ billed card at T-Mobile Arena in an immediate championship rematch with Mexican gold holder, Grasso.
Rematching the pound-for-pound number one, Shevchenko suffered her first loss at the flyweight limit in a huge-upset loss in the co-main event at UFC 285 back in March, dropping a rear-naked choke loss to the Guadalajara title chaser.
Valentina Shevchenko issues stark warning to Alexa Grasso ahead of Noche UFC
However, ahead of her return to the Octagon in a bid to land the flyweight crown for the second time in her UFC tenure, Shevchenko insists that while Grasso managed to capitalize on a slip-up back in March en route to a submission win, the Mexico native has no chance of repeating history.
“Everything was by the plan,” Valentina Shevchenko told Red Corner MMA during a recent interview. “Until the moment in the fourth round, yes. I kind of expected from her (Alexa Grasso) – because she was in the position when she has to bring everything, do something crazy, or something like that. It’s obvious because the contenders, they do these things and I studied her previous fights.”
“I watched her previous fights, I expected what she did and it just happened,” Valentina Shevchenko explained. “It’s not gonna happen every again.”
With her title fight loss to Grasso, fan-favorite Krygsztan native, Shevchenko had suffered her first loss at the flyweight limit in nine fights, having successfully defended the crown on seven separate occasions during her impressive reign.

Prior to his submission win over The Ultmate Fighter victor, Chiesa, Riverside striker, Holland managed to snap a two-fight losing run to both Khamzat Chimaev and former two-time welterweight title challenger, Stephen Thompson, with a peculiar third round KO win over Santiago Ponzinibbio back in April.
