The MMA world is almost collectively ecstatic that UFC 229’s main event will move forward as scheduled. Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov made weight and Conor McGregor did soon after at today’s UFC 229 early weigh-ins. That left most of the fight game ready to rejoice. But one person isn’t so excited, and it’s women’s strawweight veteran Felice Herrig.

Herrig will face Michelle Waterson in the opening bout of the UFC 229 main card from the T-Mobile Arena tomorrow night.

She’s apparently been getting some hatred online because of her anti-McGregor stance due to his controversial New York attack. Herrig was asked about this dynamic at the UFC 229 Media Day. She revealed to MMA Fighting (via Bloody Elbow) that it’s all because of his ‘nuthugger’ fans:

“I think because there’s controversy, and so many people they either love Conor or they hate him. So his nuthuggers are gonna be like ‘How dare you speak of the king like that? Blasphemy!’

Blind Followers?

‘Little Bulldog’ went on to offer her opinion that McGregor’s fan would follow him blindly no matter what he did. Those who would do anything at all for McGregor are the ones hating on her:

“I think it’s just because people will follow him blindly. He’s the kind of person who could be a cult leader and have all these little minions. The people that get pissed at me are his little minions who would kiss his feet. So that’s why I get hate, it’s because he’s so loved or hated or controversial.”

Yet Herrig is undeterred. She is not happy with his controversial assault earlier this year, and will never be. Herrig even went as far as to call McGregor a “piece of s**t” for his attack on several fighters:

“I don’t care, what he did was wrong,” she said. “I still think he’s a piece of sh-t, and I’m always going to think he’s a piece of sh-t.”

Conor McGregor says he’s going to do some serious damage to his archrival Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of this Saturday night’s UFC 229 from Las Vegas.

The undefeated UFC lightweight champion got tired of McGregor’s late arrivals at today’s UFC 229 pre-fight press conference. ‘The Eagle’ rose the belt high and stormed out in a surprising scene. It was an unexpected move that perhaps seemed to out in Nurmagomedov’s favor.

But as he always does, McGregor showed up. He issued a seething reaction to Khabib’s early exit. To him, it was a sign of weakness that he didn’t want to be in his presence. Overall, however, he just hoped that Khabib made weight for the match. The famed Irishman is more than ready to be back fighting following nearly two years out of the octagon.

That has many concerned about betting underdog McGregor’s ability to deal with the favorite Nurmagomedov’s ground game. He paid it little mind at the presser, claiming he’d been wrestling much bigger men.

Ultimately he says it doesn’t matter because he thinks Khabib will wilt early fro his pressure:

“I’ve been grappling and wrestling much heavier men this whole camp. 200 pounders, even yesterday, 200 pounders, 25 minutes straight. You know, I have cut no corners here. I am ready for all outcomes. I feel once I hit him, he’s gonna turn weak, I expect panic from him early. But we are prepared for every single outcome.”

Another Edge

McGregor dove into his other advantage as well, noting that he’s seen it all. It’s tough to argue with that, as he has been in a wide range of positions in the octagon. Most of all, he’s back to enjoy fighting yet again:

“I also don’t give a bollocks. I’ve experienced it all. I’ve got f**king tired in there, I’ve been on my back in there. I have been in every scenario you can be in under the brightest lights in the entire world. I am a veteran. So I am going to go out and do what I came here for, to enjoy it.  I am here to enjoy this because this is what I love.”

Final Prediction

Finally, the Irish fan favorite offered one more brutal prediction for the bout’s outcome. McGregor promised to finish Khabib in a certain violent style:

“I’m going to come out fast from the bell, pressure him, and like I said, send that man’s nose into the nosebleeds.”

Conor McGregor was late as usual to today’s UFC 229 pre-fight press conference from Las Vegas, Nevada.

This time, however, his opponent wasn’t willing to play his game. Undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov decided he had enough of ‘The Notorious” antics and stormed off with title in tow.

The infamous Irishman showed up shortly thereafter, however, and suggested he was only a “couple of minutes late.” Asked what he thought Khabib leaving, the former two-division champ had a predictable response:

“Yeah, I did not plan this. Like I said, I tried to get here. I’m only a couple of minutes late, for f**k’s sake. He’s from a backwards country, he might as well just stayed put.

“But whatever, that’s a sign he doesn’t wanna be around me. He doesn’t wanna be around these people (thunderous cheers), he’s petrified, and that’s it. He said nothing in New York, and I guarantee he was saying s**t about me when I wasn’t here. So that’s the truth of it. But hey, it is what it is.”

‘The Notorious’ then put his focus on Nurmagomedov simply making it to the fight. He said he would have liked a faceoff, but he’s had many of those over his fighting career. What’s much more important, he said, was an oft-injured fighter like ‘The Eagle’ making weight and showing up to fight:

“I’m here to fight this man Saturday night. So look, he has to make weight. Make sure he goes and get that f**ckin’ weight off, and that’s more important for me. I want him making weight, I want him to show up Saturday night because he has pulled out of fights and been rushed to the hospital very last minute and all this other bollocks.

“So get that man in the sauna and cook him like the little chicken-jaw rat that he is!”

We’re only two days away from this weekend’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) massively awaited UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Somewhat auspiciously, there’s been precious little mainstream media blitz for perhaps the biggest fight in UFC history. That’s about to change with today’s UFC 229 pre-fight press conference, however.

McGregor definitely got the ball rolling with last month’s press event from New York. The event was media-only, and that dynamic made the whole scene a bit eerie in the eyes of many as a result. That will all change today. Fans will be in attendance and you can be certain McGregor will be playing to them. He did just that with a raucous prediction at yesterday’s open workouts.

His patented behavior should only be ramped up into the stratosphere today.

Get hyped for McGregor’s return and the UFC’s biggest fight of all-time.

Anderson Silva Reacts To Conor McGregor’s Callout

Conor McGregor recently expressed interest in fighting UFC legend Anderson Silva. It’s time Silva reacts to that callout. Conor McGregor recently expressed interest in fighting UFC legend Anderson Silva. It’s time Silva reacts to that callout.

The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion will face Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of this weekend’s (October 6, 2018) UFC 229 from Las Vegas. But as always, he’s continuously looking forward to the biggest and best options for his career.

Silva is apparently on his short list of prospective opponents moving forward. The longtime former middleweight champion was recently exonerated by USADA. Because his name has been cleared, he can return to action this month. Silva does not yet have a fight booked.

When he does return, however, he’s apparently onboard with a potentially massive super fight with McGregor. The all-time great just posted on his official Instagram account that it would ‘be an honor’ to face McGregor. Silva also appears to know the current climate of the fight game. He’s seen the focus on super fights.

‘The Spider’s’ Response

Check out his response to McGregor (translated from Portuguese by MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz):

“It would be an honor to test myself with Conor McGregor. He’s an unorthodox fighter and has proven he must be respected. Let’s make it happen.

“The UFC wants superfights, I’m sure fans from all over the world want to see this fight. Professionally, I believe it would be incredible to test my martial arts abilities with a fighter like Conor McGregor in a true superfight. He’s focused on fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov now, after this fight I’m ready for this challenge. When and where he wants.”

The 43-year-old Silva has been out of action since February 2017. He was set to face Kelvin Gastelum last fall but was removed due to his USADA issues. ‘The Spider’ is considered one of the greatest mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters of all-time.

He set a record for the most consecutive wins in the UFC with a 16-fight streak from 2006-2013 and will go down in history because of it. But Silva is far out of his prime. He’s also never fought at less than 185 pounds in the UFC. Silva did fight at welterweight before his UFC career.

That’s the highest division McGregor has competed at. It’s unlikely Silva would be able to cut down to 170 due to his advancing age. But stranger things have happened, and even though Silva is aging quickly, this fight would still be like printing money.

Is it one you want to see after UFC 229?
