Maycee Barber wants Paige VanZant to be her next opponent — and Ben Askren only sees that potential contest going one way.

Barber remained undefeated following yet another TKO win, this time against Gillian Robertson on the main card of UFC Boston on Friday night. Improving her record to 8-0, “The Future” proceeded to call out VanZant for a fight.

She has called out “12 Gauge” repeatedly in the past and if that fight happens, Askren revealed what his early prediction would be:

“I think @MayceeBarber may ruins @paigevanzant Instagram career if they get in the cage,” Askren tweeted after Barber’s win and subsequent callout of VanZant.

Askren, of course, is biased as they are teammates at Roufussport. As for the reference to Instagram, VanZant claimed she made more money from the social media platform than she does fighting inside the Octagon.

She also only has one fight left on her current deal and Barber spoke last month of how she wished to be VanZant’s final opponent:

“Now she makes more money outside than she does in fighting because she’s not fighting,” Barber said. “As far as her last fight on her contract, that’s my fight. If she wants to fight in Bellator, if she wants to move out, she can fight me on her last fight on her contract, or she can never fight again, and that’s up to her.”

Paige VanZant is eyeing a rematch with Michelle Waterson in December if the Joanna Jedrzejczyk fight does not happen.

It was reported on Wednesday that the former UFC champion was struggling cutting weight and the fight may be off. The UFC proposed a catchweight bout to Waterson who said she was not interested. The Las Vegas-based promotion then said she would Jessica Andrade at UFC 244, while Jedrzejczyk would fight Angela Hill.

Yet, it appears that won’t happen, as Joanna Jedrzejczyk has said she will cut the weight. But, if she misses, Paige VanZant has said she is available to fight Waterson.

“Hey @Ufc if Michelle doesn’t have a fight I’ll make 115 and fight her December 14th!!!!,” Paige VanZant wrote.

Paige VanZant last fought back in Brooklyn in January where she submitted Rachael Ostovich. The win snapped her two-fight losing streak with losses to Waterson and Jessica Rose-Clark. She has currently been dealing with rehabbing her broken arm and the surgery for it.

VanZant and Waterson fought back in December of 2016 in the main event of UFC on Fox 22 in Sacramento. There, ‘The Karate Hottie’ won by first-round submission via rear-naked choke. Since the win, Waterson has climbed up the strawweight rankings while VanZant went up to flyweight.

It is interesting to see Paige VanZant call for the fight at 115 which means she may very well be moving down to strawweight. She has said she is open to cutting back down but did not have a definitive answer. She also only has one fight left on her UFC contract where she plans on testing free agency after that.

UFC strawweight prospect Maybee Barber hopes she gets to be the last opponent on Paige VanZant’s current contract.

VanZant currently has one fight remaining on her deal but speculation about her fighting future has increased. That’s because “12 Gauge” recently claimed she made more money with Instagram posts than she does fighting in the Octagon.

For Barber, that’s simply because VanZant isn’t fighting. Regardless, even though Barber is booked against Gillian Robertson next, “The Future” hopes to be VanZant’s next opponent:

“Now she makes more money outside than she does in fighting because she’s not fighting,” Barber said in an interview with The Score. “As far as her last fight on her contract, that’s my fight. If she wants to fight in Bellator, if she wants to move out, she can fight me on her last fight on her contract, or she can never fight again, and that’s up to her.”

VanZant recently responded to Barber’s callouts, stating that she found them disrespectful and that she wouldn’t reward Barber with a fight as a result. Barber believes it’s simply a case of her ducking opponents.

And if she continues to do that, she is not holding up her part of the deal with the UFC:

“I believe that, because that’s how she got that was because of the UFC,” Barber said of VanZant’s opportunities being a result of the UFC. “She would not be anywhere that she is right now without the UFC and what she’s done, and what they’ve given her, so she didn’t hold up her end of the bargain.

“When the UFC signed her, I think they saw someone who had very good marketability, and they thought could fight, and she’s not holding up her end of the deal. She’s not fighting. She’s not fighting anybody and she’s trying to duck all these girls – and she’s ducking me.”

Hopefully this is the fight that happens next. That is, provided Barber gets past Robertson.
