UFC Philadelphia rolls on with a light heavyweight contest between Scotland’s Paul Craig and Nigeria’s Kennedy Nzechukwu.

As always, Lowkickmma has you covered with all the results from UFC on ESPN 2 as they happen.

Craig (10-3) finds himself with his back against the wall going just 1-3 in his last four UFC outings. A win is likely necessary for Craig to keep his roster spot. As for Nzechukwu (6-0). The 26-year-old earned a contract on last season’s Contender Series by defeating Dennis Bryant with a head kick. He will look to make a big splash in his official debut.

Round One

Craig rushes across the octagon and throws a leg kick. He goes high with a kick to follow. Craig looks for a single leg but Nzechukwo lands some hard elbows. Craig works through it and locks in an elbow lock. Nzechukwu powers out of it. Craig locks in another arm lock and again Nzechukwu finds a way to defend it. Craig dives for the Nigerians legs and looks for a takedown. Nzechukwu is doing a good job defending the takedown. Craig dives on an ankle and figure fours Nzechukwu’s leg. The Nigerian powers out again. Nzechukwu lands a hard left knee to Craig’s head as Craig was looking for a takedown. The round ends with both fighters in an exchange.

Round Two

Craig takes to the center of the cage and pumps his jab. Nzechukwu throws a head kick, Craig moves through it and dives on his legs. Nzechukwu keeps grabbing the fence to stop the takedown. Craig finally gets the fight to the ground but Nzechukwu starts to drop some hard punches and elbows on Craig. He steps off and lets Craig up to his feet. Craig throws a knee straight up the middle and clips the groin of Nzechukwu. The fight resumes and the Nigerian throws a head kick and moves forward. The fight tempo has slowed here in round two. A jab finds its place as Nzechukwu executes nicely. The bell sounds as Craig dives for a takedown.

Round Three

Craig comes out with a one-two. Nzechukwu throws a right hook that misses the mark. Both fighters look a bit tentative here to start. The Nigerian lands a hard knee to Craig’s abdomen. Craig dives on Nzechukwu’s legs but it’s not there. Nzechukwu pokes Craig in the eye again. This time the fight is stopped and the referee takes a point from Nzechukwu. The fight resumes. Three minutes left in the fight. Nzechukwu is pressing forward and defending Craig’s takedowns. Craig digs but Nzechukwu moves into side control and opens up some ground and pound. Craig finds his way into full guard but Nzechukwu opens up. Craig locks in a triangle, this time he gets the tap. Wow.

Paul Craig defeats Kennedy Nzechukwu via submission (triangle choke) at 4:20 of round three

UFC Fight Night 127 popped off today (Saturday, March 17, 2018) from The O2 Arena in London, England. The slate was main-evented by big men Fabricio Werdum and Alexander Volkov. The Russian cracked Werdum’s chin in the fourth round and likely cracked the top-five as a result. His come-from-behind finish – he had spent much of the first 10 minutes on his back eating punches and elbows from the Brazilian – could net Volkov a crack at the winner of the Miocic-Cormier heavyweight title tilt. It definitely net him an extra $50,000, as Volkov was awarded one of the Performance of the Night bonuses.

The other Performance of the Night went to Scotsman Paul Craig, who authored an even more dramatic come-from-behind win. Craig got taken down and beaten up by newcomer and highly-touted prospect Magomed Ankalaev for most of their preliminary fight. But the Dagestani wrestler paid for his conservative approach – he had Craig in serious trouble from mount to end round one, but never got really aggressive on top again. With the clock winding down and Ankalaev again on top landing moderate ground and pound, Craig chucked up a Hail Mary submission – and got it. Ankalaev tapped to a triangle choke with one second left in a fight he might have won 30-26. Craig kept his spot on the UFC roster and goes home $50,000 richer for setting the record for the latest finish in a three-round fight.

The Fight of the Night went to the co-main event, as Jan Blachowicz and Jimi Manuwa put on a spirited war that far outshined their first fight from 2016. Blachowicz badly rocked and knocked Manuwa down in the first round, but the Brit proved resilient. “Poster Boy” continued to walk down Blachowicz, scoring with vicious left hooks to the body and kicks to all levels, but his deadly power punches could never quite find their mark upstairs. Blachowicz continued to jab, slip, and counter effectively, and rode out a decision victory. By the end, both men were bloody messes, but both will go home $50,000 richer for their efforts.
