UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will attempt to make history in just a few weeks as he aims to become the first man to simultaneously hold titles in two different weight classes.

The “Notorious” one will take on reigning lightweight king Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of March 5’s UFC 196 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Despite having an extremely tall order in front of him, could we possible see McGregor challenge for a third world title as early as this summer? His head coach John Kavanagh wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out that way:

“I’ve seen that rumors of Conor fighting Robbie Lawler for the 170-pound belt at UFC 200 on July 9 have been gathering momentum. It’s not something we have discussed specifically but after Conor wins the lightweight belt, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the next fight is for the welterweight belt,” McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh wrote in a post on The 42 on Thursday.

“If that’s what Conor wants to do, I’ll absolutely support that move. I think that would be fantastic. We’re already talking about making history in a few weeks, but can you imagine what it will be like if Conor is the champion in three weight classes by the summer?”

Due to the fact that he cuts a tremendous amount of weight to fight at featherweight, moving to 155-pounds was likely from the onset for McGregor, and he’ll likely size up well with the lightweight elite.

That being said, moving up another 15 pounds to welterweight is a different story. Once again, Kavanagh isn’t worried, noting that with proper time McGregor could be a force at 170-pounds:

“As time goes on, it’s harder to predict what will happen in the future. Conor has a sort of unusual body type in that even though he can make featherweight, he’s still a very big lightweight,” Kavanagh explained.

“Given some time, as well as a bit of strength and conditioning work, he could also be a force at welterweight. This is an interesting time.”

While holding two titles at one time has been unheard of in the UFC, being a three-weight world champion just seems silly to even fathom about. If any man could do it, however, it would be the brash Irish knockout artist.

What do you think the future holds for McGregor?

Rafael dos Anjos: “Conor McGregor Is Going To Break Like A Girl”

Rafael dos Anjos is feeling confident heading into his UFC 196 fight against Conor McGregor. In an interview with the MMA Hour, dos Anjos spoke about his upcoming UFC Lightweight Championship fight against McGregor.

“If I have an opportunity to finish, I will finish, but I will feel him first. I want to hit him first a couple of times. I want him to feel my power, you know, because his thing is always having such a good time in the Octagon. Everything that he’s predicting has been happening, but I think this time his crystal ball is a little blurry. I think he’s not seeing well, and he’s going to feel the difference. I’m going to show him the bad part of the Octagon. I went through the good part and the bad part, but now I’m going to introduce him to the bad part.”

dos Anjos predicts he will end the fight in two or three rounds.

“My prediction is, I’m going to win for sure,” he said. “I don’t see how this guy can beat me. But, a prediction — this fight will not be five rounds. It’s going to be maybe three or two rounds. This guy, he’s not going to be able handle me for more than two rounds. He’s going to break. He’s going to break like a girl.”

UFC 196 takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on March 5, 2016. What do you think will happen when McGregor and dos Anjos step into the octagon? Leave your predictions in the comments below.

White To McGregor On Poster Controversy: You’re Right, Conor

At last month’s UFC 196 (previously UFC 197) press conference, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor made it vividly clear that he wasn’t happy with the promotional posters for the event.

McGregor is scheduled to move up in weight and challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title on March 5, 2016 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

At the press conference, the “Notorious” one was angered that he wasn’t holding his title on the poster, and that his belt wasn’t sitting in front of him at the time. While only dos Anjos’ title is on the line, the fight is indeed a battle between two champions.

UFC president Dana White said at the time that the reasoning was, in reality, because RDA was the defending champion, but it seems as if he has since changed his tune.

With the rescheduling of the events, a new poster was forced to be made, and this time, each man has his title with the bout being billed as champion vs. champion. Recently speaking on the changes with the Grant and Danny show (via MMAFighting), White admitted that McGregor was right:

“Conor made his argument, ‘This is a superfight. I’m a [145]-pound champion. He’s the [155]-pound champion. My belt should be represented even though I’m not defending my belt.’

“And I said, ‘You know what? You’re right, Conor. All right, we’ll do it,” White recalls.

In the end, the UFC boss acknowledged that he had a super fight on his hands, making the switch up a necessity:

“We actually switched the poster and they’ve both got their belts and it’s champion vs. champion,” said White. “It’s a superfight: 45 vs. 55 for the 55-pound title.”

UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos didn’t like what he saw at the UFC 197 presser, and he says it shows the Irishman is ‘scared’….

Last week the stars of UFC 197 gathered for a press conference that turned in to another edition of ‘The Conor McGregor Show.’ Much like the Go Big presser in Australia, ‘The Notorious’ took over the presser and made sure he blasted Rafael dos Anjos during his time on the mic. For his part, the Brazilian champion remained calm and collected, if a little quiet. Once again the stage has been set by McGregor.

It’s obvious by now that the UFC featherweight champion likes to pile the pressure on both the opponent and himself during the pre fight hype, he says it helps him perform better, and who are we to argue? After all he did just surgically remove Jose Aldo’s chin with a single precise punch at UFC 194, but will it be the same with the lightweight champion on March 5?

In case you missed it, McGregor blasted RDA as a traitor to the Brazilian people and claimed he would behead the lightweight boss and drag his corpse through the streets of Rio.

Talking during a media scrum in his home nation of Brazil, the lightweight champion revealed how he felt watching McGregor talk trash during the 197 presser, as quoted by MMAFighting.com:

“When I saw him with that shirt I thought he had lost it. What was up with that? It’s horrible,” dos Anjos said. “A friend of mine showed me a video of ‘El Chapo’ later, and then I understood about the drug dealer.

“He thinks he’s the boss, he thinks he’s God,” he added. “Like I said, the next step is his fall. He will get scared.”

“I speak English, but he has an accent that is hard to understand sometimes. But I believe I was able to get in a debate with him,” dos Anjos said. “I believe it was worse for Aldo because he listened to what he said and watched everybody laugh but couldn’t understand a word. Press conferences aren’t the best thing to do, but it’s part of the job. It’s not fun to be there and listen to this clown do his comedy show.”

Rafael dos Anjos will get the next lightweight title shot versus ...

So here we are again, the champion trying to ignore Conor McGregor’s antics, ‘The Notorious’ promising a first round knockout, deja vu?

McGregor, who declared that we’ve ‘seen him on the salads, now we’ll see him on the steaks’ at last week’s UFC 197 press conference has apparently been enjoying not having to put his body through the taxing cut down to featherweight’s 145-pound limit. He posted  photo to his Instagram account of him looking rather huge and ripped in preparation for his bid to become a two-division champ.
