Bellator 175, which took place last Friday night (March 31, 2017) from Chicago, Illinois, was headlined by a rematch between former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal.

Lawal ended up winning a decision in the rematch and it turned out to be one of the most successful events for Bellator this year, as it drew 909,000 viewers, while peaking at more than 1.3 million viewers, per a report from MMAFighting.com. These numbers marked the promotion’s second best of the year.

These numbers also marked quite an increase from the last event Jackson headlined, which was Bellator 157 last June. Taking on Satoshi Ishii, “Rampage” scored a split decision victory. The event drew 601,000 viewers and peaked at 914,000.

The only event this year that brought in better ratings than Bellator 175 was Bellator 170, which took place this past January and was headlined by a bout between former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen and former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz.

His rematch with Lawal marked the last fight on Jackson’s contract with Bellator. It’s currently unclear what the future holds for the 38-year-old.

Rampage Jackson Clarifies Statement About Regretting MMA

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will return to action in the main event of tomorrow night’s (March 31, 2017) Bellator 175 when he squares off with rival Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal in a rematch of their 2014 bout.

Jackson made headlines recently when he said that his biggest regret in mixed martial arts was starting the sport in the first place, but he has since clarified that statement, simply saying that leaving everything in his home of Memphis, Tennessee was a difficult decision to make:

“Man, half the time when you do interviews, you get negative people in the world who want to spin words and get clickbait, or just get people to listen to their interviews,” Jackson said (via MMA Fighting). “It’s hard being in the public eye when you just keep it real. The guy asked me, on the spot, what was my biggest regret about doing MMA, and I thought about my family.

“I left everything back in Memphis and I moved to California. I left everything. My family, my car, my job, everything, and I left and moved to California by myself.”

While he said that his statement was indeed taken out of context, he also detailed some of the darker parts of being a fighter, which likely led him to say what he said regarding his regrets:

“Since I’ve been a fighter, I’ve been screwed out of millions of dollars by managers and people pretending to be friends. When I was champion, I had a lot of fake friends around me,” Jackson said. “And as soon as I lost the belt, where did they go? My family, they’re always there. They always tell me they miss me and they’re proud of me. So I just wish I would’ve stayed home in Memphis and been with my family, the people who like me.”

“I would’ve been a construction worker, just like the rest of my family, and happy. And that’s all I said. But you’ve got negative people that spin it and take it out of context, and it gets annoying sometimes when people do that. So, I just kept it real, like I always do. I keep it real. You ask me a question, I’m going to give you the honest, most real answer I can possibly give you.”

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been around the fight game for years now and he remains one of the sport’s most unique figures.

At 38 years of age, the clock is likely ticking on Jackson’s career, but he will return to action in the main event of this Friday’s (March 31, 2017) Bellator 175 in a rematch against Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal, who Jackson scored a decision victory over in 2015.

Although he’s nearing the end of the road, “Rampage’s” view on his career hasn’t changed. Despite being criticized at times, Jackson makes it clear that he loves to fight, but hates to train:

“People misunderstood me or they tried to censor me or took what I said out of context,” Jackson told Yahoo! Sports. “I’ve always been honest with what I have said. I hate training and I love fighting.”

In addition to that, Jackson, a prolific knockout artist, has never been a fan of competing against wrestlers, which still remains true:

“I do complain about that, but it has nothing to do with me not having my heart into it,” Jackson said. “That just shows how much heart I have and how much emotion I have, because I think those guys are messing up our sport. Our sport has gotten so popular with all the excitement and the people like Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, Vitor Belfort, Tito Ortiz. Tito was a wrestler, but he’d take you down and ground and pound you. Those are the guys who made this sport super popular.

“But then you get guys like King Mo and, with all due respect, Rashad Evans and D.C. [Daniel Cormier], who just like hugging people on the ground. You hear the people complaining about that, and I don’t want to fight that way. I want to have exciting fights. If we ask fans to buy tickets and come down and sit there and watch fights for hours, we have to give them their money’s worth.”

Jackson may love to fight, but there’s clearly some aspects of the fight game that don’t appeal to him, and at times, he hasn’t seemed too fond of the media aspect, despite his ability to talk and hype fights.

In regards to that, Jackson actually labeled himself as the first Conor McGregor – but with a catch:

“I was the first Conor. I was Conor Mc-[N-word].”

“He can talk and say what he wants and talk about money and say he’s in it for the money and nobody opens their mouth and says anything negative about what he is saying,” Jackson said.

“I’ve been doing the same stuff, but everybody’s trying to shut me up. And then there are people who take me out of context and say, ‘Oh, he’s just in it for the money. He don’t love this no more.’ You know what? What I do is try to entertain people. It’s all I’ve ever tried to do. I’m an entertainer and I’m always going to try to entertain people.”

During the live broadcast of Bellator 170 tonight (Jan. 21, 2017) at The Forum in Inglewood, California, the promotion announced that a rematch between former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal would be taking place on March 31, 2017 presented on Spike.

Commentator Jimmy Smith also mentioned that the fight would be taking place at heavyweight.

The two rivals met for the first time at Bellator 120 in May 2014 in a bout that Jackson won via unanimous decision, although many felt as if “King Mo” should’ve gotten the nod.

Since then, “Rampage” has won two straight including a unanimous decision victory over Fabio Maldonado at UFC 186 in April 2015 as well as a split decision victory over Satoshi Ishii at Bellator 157 last June.

“King Mo”, on the other hand, has been extremely active since dropping a decision to Jackson. After his fight with “Rampage”, Lawal put together a seven fight win streak before losing to reigning Bellator light heayweight champion Phil Davis last May. He then bounced back with a unanimous decision victory over Ishii before being stopped by Mirko Cro Cop at a Rizin event last month.

Who do you expect to win the rematch between Jackson and Lawal?
