Quinton Rampage Jackson thinks Jon Jones can enjoy a successful career at heavyweight but notes that one shot from Francis Ngannou could change that.

After a long reign at light-heavyweight, Jones relinquished his title and announced his intention to compete at heavyweight. The move has been delayed by a financial dispute with the UFC, although it is expected to be resolved soon thanks to the help of Jones’ new advisor, Richard Schaefer.

During a recent interview with Helen Yee, Rampage predicted that Jones will enjoy a successful career at heavyweight, he said.

“I think that Jones will do well in heavyweight if he can keep the guys from hitting him, which, you know, I had a hard time punching Jon Jones. I don’t think I landed anything clean on him. If he’s gotten even one percent better at avoiding getting hit in the face, I think he’ll do well at heavyweight.

“Because, he’s a great wrestler, and I think that he’d be able to control the fight, take ‘em down and fight. One thing about Jon Jones I think is that he has a strong mind, and whatever he puts his mind to, he can do it. And I just hope he puts his mind to focusing on his career and his personal life.”

Rampage Jackson Says Jon Jones Can’t Take Francis Ngannou’s Power Shots

‘Bones’ is expected to fight the winner of Francis Ngannou vs. Ciryl Gane who are set to unifiy the heavyweight division at UFC 270 in January. Jackson expressed some concern about Jones’ ability to withstand the power for Ngannou.

“I don’t know about that because Francis, what’s his name?” ‘Rampage’ added, “Francis Ngannou is; ain’t he the champion right now? Yeah, he tough. That guy is tough. And he looks like he hits really hard. And if he lands one shot on Jones, I don’t see Jones recovering from that. But like I said, Jones is hard to hit.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Quinton Rampage Jackson has revealed he is done competing in MMA and will be looking to continue his combat sports career in the boxing ring.

The former UFC champion and 52-fight MMA veteran hasn’t fought since being knocked out by Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator 237 in December 2019.

Jackson is now ready to continue his fight career but in a different sport.

“This is the thing that people don’t understand about me, I’ve been fighting MMA for so long and I’ve been fighting the best people in the sport,” Jackson told reporters during Triller’s Triad Combat press conference on Monday. “I win some and I lose some, but that thrill is not there anymore in MMA like when I started.”

Rampage Jackson Wants To Square Off Against Shannon Briggs

“Me stepping into a boxing ring with someone of the caliber of Shannon, I’ll have that rush,” Rampage said. “In the training camp, I’ll get that rush. If I don’t get this right, I can get knocked out – and that’s what I need. That’s what made me so successful in MMA and I lost that over the years by fighting everybody and doing that.

“I accept the challenge. I think Shannon would be a real tough boxing match. If I’m going to be 100 percent honest, I didn’t imagine fighting him in Triad Combat. I never imagined fighting him in anything like that. I imagined my first boxing match in a boxing ring with boxing gloves. But I’m prepared for any challenge that comes my way.”

‘Rampage’ has been beefing with Briggs on social media for some time now. It appears the two are edging closer to squaring off in the boxing ring or Triad Combat which is a new striking sport that matches boxers against MMA fighters.

Rampage Jackson Shannon Briggs

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and former heavyweight boxing champion Shannon Briggs got into a bit of an Instagram squabble just before the weekend and could be the opening chapter to a potential fight between the two.

Jackson and Briggs have both been away from the public eye, with Jackson still technically a free agent after his time in Bellator, while Briggs has talked about a potential boxing comeback over the past few years. The trend of old combat sports legends making a return to the sport they used to own has opened up opportunities for competitors like Jackson and Briggs to return.

Jackson and Briggs went back-and-forth in a pair of Instagram posts, and things got testy.

“I’m not sure if [Shannon Briggs] thinks im a easy fight because I’ve never boxed before or if he just misses getting his ass kicked,” Jackson said in one post. “Either way I’m bout it. Just letting ya know champ i ain’t scared, tell yo peoples to make it happen.”

Briggs sounded open to the idea of the two violent fighters going to battle in the ring.

“[Rampge] we can mix it up champ,” Briggs posted. “No problemo senorita. The first round boxing second round MMA. Third round boxing until one of [us is] in the hospice.”

Jackson was released from Bellator back in late 2019 following his heavyweight fight with Fedor Emelianenko. He ended up losing three of his last four fights in the promotion including his knockout loss to Emelianenko.

The 49-year-old Briggs was a mainstay among the best heavyweights in boxing during his illustrious career. He has big wins over George Foreman and John Sargent among many others.

Jackson has been in the fight game for a long time as well, after a successful run in the UFC’s light heavyweight division which included getting the belt at UFC 71 with a highlight knockout over Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell. Before that, he had successful runs in Pride and King of the Cage during the beginning of the rise in popularity of MMA.
