Flyweight Josh Van picked up his fifth pro victory with a rarely seen calf slicer submission on the main card of Fury FC 62.

Matched up with Mario Suazo, Van largely had his way with the Denver native on the feet before locking up the submission to finish the fight late in the second round.

Finishing a professional MMA bout via calf slicer isn’t something you see every day; Brett Johns memorably finished Joe Soto with just the second calf slicer in UFC history back in 2017. This win also marks Van’s first career submission victory.

The 20-year old Van has spent the entirety of his amateur and pro careers competing for Fury FC. He’s been on a torrid pace since turning pro in October 2021 and is already 5-1, with all of his wins coming via stoppage.

Van’s win wasn’t the only submission on the Fury FC 62 main card, although it was arguably the most impressive. Later on the card Adam Martinez finished Leonard Carvalho with an anaconda choke in the first round, and in the main event Austin Jones locked up a third-round triangle choke against Armus Guyton to close out the fight card in Castle Rock, Colorado.

What’s your reaction to Josh Van’s calf slicer submission?

Russian bantamweight Vyacheslav Svischev flashed some deadly striking accuracy over the weekend at Open FC 19 in Samara, Russia.

Scheduled as the fourth fight of a six-fight main card, Svischev entered the cage opposite Kyrgyzstan’s Belek Aliev.

After the two bantamweights exchanged on the feet early, the southpaw Svischev backed Aliev up with a jab followed by a left straight to the body. The Russian fighter then landed a perfectly timed left uppercut as Aliev ducked in before following up with a left straight to the head as Aliev was falling to the canvas.

The 28-year-old Svischev improves his record to 9-2 with this win. Now on a four-fight win streak, Svischev has finished all four of those opponents via strikes and all of his career victories have come via stoppage.

Svischev’s win was the third of what ended up being four-straight KO/TKO finishes on the Open FC 19 main card. Light heavyweight Vladimir Seliverstov stopped his opponent in less than thirty seconds following Svischev’s victory, and in the heavyweight main event Yuriy Fedorov won a unanimous decision over Shamil Abasov.

What’s your reaction to Vyacheslav Svischev’s knockout?
