When Ric Flair Tried to Out-Smoke Mike Tyson: "I didn't even know where I was"

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair once made the mistake of trying to out-smoke ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.

After establishing themselves as two of the absolute best in their respective fields, Tyson and Flair took a similar path in their twilight years, choosing to promote their own lines of cannabis-based products appropriately named Tyson 2.0 and Ric Flair Drip.

Mike Tyson and Ric Flair

Tyson and the “stylin’, profilin’, limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin’ n’ dealin’ son of a gun” have acted as spokesmen for their brands over the years while often teaming up to support the decriminalization of marijuana and to discuss how cannabis has helped them in various aspects of their life.

Recently, Tyson appeared via video call at the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Hollywood alongside the legendary wrestler. During their time together, Tyson and Flair shared anecdotes about their use of marijuana which eventually led to a debate over who could smoke more between the two.

Hilariously, Flair quickly declared Tyson the winner while revealing that the two had engaged in a friendly contest some time back that didn’t exactly go his way.

“I said ‘You know what, Mike, I’m going to show you that I can smoke as much as you.’ At four o’clock in the morning, I didn’t even know where I was,” Flair said. “Literally, he puts Ric Flair to bed with his cannabis” (h/t Marca).

Mike Tyson returns to the ring on November 15

While the 75-year-old Flair has put his professional wrestling career to bed (we hope), Mike Tyson is preparing for a return to the boxing ring for his first professional bout in nearly two decades.

On Friday, November 15, ‘Iron’ will lace up the gloves inside the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for a clash with ‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul.

The fight will air on Netflix, making it the first live combat sports broadcast for the streaming giant since the subscription-based service went live on January 16, 2007.

Paul, who will be 31 years younger than Tyson come fight night, carries with him a 10-1 record including seven wins by way of knockout. His only loss came against Tommy Fury via split decision in February 2023. Tyson’s last pro fight was on June 11, 2005, against Kevin McBride. Shortly after, Tyson hung up his gloves for good.

‘Iron’ went 50-6 with 44 KOs and 2 no-contests over the course of his 20-year career.

Michael Chandler

Former Bellator MMA champion Michael Chandler embraced his sports entertainment side during a recent “altercation” with pro wrestling legend Ric Flair.

Michael Chandler has been sitting on the sidelines for the last year while waiting for Irish megastar Conor McGregor to get his sh*t together and finally sign on the dotted line for his long-awaited return to the Octagon. In the meantime, ‘Iron’ has kept busy by investing in Hiatus Tequila and delivering double-legs to elderly men.

That’s exactly what transpired when Chandler found himself in a heated confrontation with the stylin’, profilin’, limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin’ n’ dealin’ son of a gun.

While things certainly seemed real enough between the ‘Nature Boy’ and Chandler at first, it’s revealed that the pair were just having a little fun by the end of the clip.

It’s not the First Time Michael Chandler and Flair Have Collaborated

This is not the first time Flair and Chandler have worked together. Last month, they were spotted in a commercial for CarShield. In the ad, a cantankerous Flair quizzes Chandler on the perks of the product before ditching him when Chandler gives the wrong answers.

Michael Chandler also invoked a classic Ric Flair promo following his first-round knockout of Dan Hooker in his UFC debut in 2021.

“I tell y’all this. This is the greatest moment in my professional life!” he began, before taking aim at the UFC lightweight division’s biggest names,” Chandler said in his UFC 257 post-fight interview.

“Conor McGregor! Surprise, surprise! There’s a new king in the lightweight division! Dustin Poirier! Your time is coming! And Khabib! If you ever do see fit to grace us with your presence back here in the UFC octagon in your quest for 30-0, you’ve gotta beat somebody. So beat me, if you can! God bless! See you at the top!” (h/t MMA Junkie).

Joe Rogan asks WWE icon Ric Flair if he’s ‘Scared’ of Ariel Helwani after hilarious misunderstanding

Joe Rogan Ric Flair

WWE legend Ric Flair recently appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast, and the two icons shared some hilarious moments while also discussing Dana White and Ariel Helwani.

While legends in their own separate industries, the two icons sat down for what was an epic podcast that just so happened to feature one of the funniest misunderstandings that the Joe Rogan Experience has featured in a long time.

The clip making waves in the MMA world is a short one-minute snippet that starts off with Joe Rogan talking about his relationship with his longtime friend and UFC president Dana White. “I can call Dana at one o’clock in the morning,” Rogan began. “We’ll talk for three hours about fights. Just talk.”

Suddenly, the legend himself, Ric Flair, decides to bring up Ariel Helwani, and that’s when things take a turn for the extremely comical. “Ariel has a good job with him (Dana White), right?” Flair asked.

Ric Flair hilariously mistakes Ariel Helwani for UFC employee and former fighter on Joe Rogan’s podcast

“Ariel Helwani?” Rogan asked, doing a good job of not laughing. It was major news many years ago, but Ariel Helwani and Dana White notoriously broke bad after Helwani leaked UFC news that he was essentially supposed to keep secret.

Dana White and the UFC were extremely angry because, according to them, the UFC was going to release the news themselves, and Helwani violated their trust by choosing to break the news. Helwani was then permanently banned from attending UFC events, media days, press conferences, and basically anything UFC-run.

This is pretty much common knowledge in the industry. Helwani himself brings it up all the time and has famously said he did wonder if it was going to ruin his career, but he chose to persevere and has done extremely well for a professional journalist banned from attending UFC events.

“Ariel Helwani is independent now,” Rogan explained. “He does his own thing… He doesn’t get along with Dana… I don’t have a problem with Ariel. I like Ariel. His show is great… He was with FOX for a while. He was with ESPN for a while… I know his show is very successful.”

The conversation continues to flow before things take a hilarious turn. Flair is about to make a factual blunder that doesn’t really mean anything but is pretty funny to look back on. “I just saw him at WrestleMania,” Ric Flair said. “Ariel is pretty tough, too, right?”

“Is he? I don’t know, I don’t think he ever fought. I don’t even know if he trains,” Joe Rogan answered, kind of chuckling.

“Oh, he didn’t? Well, god. He looks like he did,” Flair responded. Joe Rogan had to chime in here and ask Flair if he was “Scared of him (Ariel Helwani),” to which ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair immediately said, “No.”

“Well, what are you trying to say?” Rogan asked as laughter broke out in the room. Ric Flair does a great job of keeping a straight face even though he had facts a little jumbled and confused. “He looks like he did (fight),” Flair said. “I thought he did fight at one time… He’s well built; he’s very well spoken too.”

The clip ends, and while the things Flair said are harmless, it is pretty funny and endearing to see a living legend like Ric Flair appear so human and get some MMA facts wrong. Humans have a knack for putting people on a pedestal, and when a living icon like ‘The Natureboy’ appears on Joe Rogan’s podcast and gets some facts wrong and looks a bit like an MMA casual, it does come across as very funny, but also extremely endearing to see that happen and realize even people’s idols are just regular humans too.

What do you think of Ric Flair’s funny blunder on Joe Rogan’s podcast, and do you think Ric Flair should be “scared of” Ariel Helwani?

Jake Paul Ric Flair Conor McGregor

Ric Flair, the WWE Hall of Fame athlete, had some kind words to say about Logan and Jake Paul. Even going so as far as saying Jake Paul could ‘handle’ the Irish UFC fighter Conor McGregor in the boxing ring.

‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul is now 6-0 in professional boxing after earning his most recent win against UFC legend Anderson Silva this past weekend. Additionally, he has wins over notable MMA fighters such as Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren.

Jake Paul vs Conor McGregor?

On his ‘To Be The Man‘ podcast, the ‘Nature Boy’ discussed the potential for a Jake Paul vs Conor McGregor showdown. On this boxing matchups, Flair said:

“Conor I think he could handle. I don’t know about Canelo … Conor can’t use the wrestling skills, they can’t use the submissions. You know what I mean?”

Conor McGregor made history as the first fighter to hold two world titles simultaneously in the UFC. ‘The Notorious’ captured the featherweight and lightweight thrones in 2016. He also fought boxing great Floyd Mayweather in his final professional bout in 2017.

‘The Nature Boy’ added that Paul should avoid Mike Tyson. He continued:

“My only advice to Jake Paul would be, don’t call out Mike Tyson. [laughs] Anderson Silva, okay. I like Anderson, I know him personally. But I wouldn’t want to mess with Mike Tyson, I see Mike all the time. That might be more than he can chew.” [Transcript courtesy of ewrestlingnews]

After defeating Anderson Silva, it seems that it is likely that Jake Paul will be facing former UFC fighter, Nate Diaz. The two have begun trash-talking and reportedly had an altercation this past weekend.

Ric Flair also mentioned that he was impressed with Logan Paul’s brief stint in the WWE. Logan participated in a match at WrestleMania 37 in 2021. He made additional appearances at SummerSlam in 2022. It seems Logan Paul will be active in the WWE ring, which ‘The Nature Boy’ is happy about. He said:

“I think he’s done a hell of a job. I think he’s done great. I mean, that stuff he did with The Miz, I didn’t anticipate him being that good. Those kids are good athletes.”

Ric Flair is a legend of professional wrestling with a career spanning over fifty years. ‘The Nature Boy’ made his debut in 1972 and had his most match in 2022. He said he has no plans of retiring. See the full podcast with Ric Flair below:
