Robbie Lawler

In the UFC Vegas 8 co-main event, former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler looks to snap his three-fight losing skid in a late notice fight against Neil Magny. ‘The Haitian Sensation’ was originally set to face Geoff Neal but that fight fell through allowing Lawler the opportunity to get back in the win column. Let’s see who the LowKickMMA staff are backing in this one.

Jordan Ellis: I understand Robbie Lawler is no longer at the peak of his powers but unless he has seriously dropped off since the last time we saw him fight I think he should get the win in this one. Lawler may be on a three-fight losing streak but they have all come against top guys. Magny with all due respect is a level or two below the opposition Lawler usually fights and he will need to be better than ever to emerge victorious in this one.

Prediction: Robbie Lawler

Ryan Galloway: Robbie Lawler makes his long awaited return on short notice against Neil Magny in this weekends co main event. For Magny he had been preparing for Geoff Neal who is a heavy hitter just like Lawler, On the other hand, has Robbie been in the gym? Is he ready to take on a style like Magny’s? These are questions I imagine we won’t have answers to until the night, however, I like Robbie in this one, for nothing more than he is much too big an underdog in the betting margins not to take.

Prediction: Robbie Lawler

Cole Shelton: It will be nice to see Robbie Lawler back in the Octagon but I don’t see how he wins this fight. The former champ struggles against volume strikers which Magny is. I expect Magny to put the pressure on Lawler and use his clinch game to get a decision

Prediction: Neil Magny

Ryan Maccarthy: Robbie Lawler vs Neil Magny could be fight of the night. I expect both of these men to come out firing and looking for a finish. Im looking to see how Lawler looks after 3 straight losses. Im going to go with the underdog here, Robbie Lawler by tko in the 2nd.

Prediction: Robbie Lawler

Geoff Neal

Welterweight contender Geoff Neal is of out his fight against Neil Magny after he “almost died”. Former champion Robbie Lawler is expected to step in to face Mangy on August 29 in Las Vegas.

Neal was due to have his first fight of the year. The #11 ranked welterweight had previously struggled to find an opponent after putting together a five-fight win streak which includes impressive victories over the likes of Mike Perry and Niko Price.

‘Hands of Steel’ will need to sit out a little longer after suffering from an unknown medical condition that led him on the brink of death. Neal posted two pictures to Instagram showing him looking worse for wear in a hospital bed. The images were captioned with the following statement:

“These past few week have been crazy, and that’s putting it lightly. It’s really hard to try to find an eloquent way to say “I almost died.” So screw it.. I almost died…. This really put alot of things into perspective for me. Never did I ever think I would be hooked up to a dialysis machine before my 30s. Everything was going well for me. Was training everyday, making money at work, just signed a contract for a huge fight, then BOOM, life hit me with a check hook. I’m just glad to be home after having to spend 1 week in the ICU. Stay healthy out there y’all and listen to your body at all times.”

Lawler will now step in to fight Magny on just a few weeks’ notice according to a report from MMA DNA. The former 170lb king has lost three straight fights and hasn’t won since picking up a unanimous decision victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 214 in July 2017.

Everyone at LowKickMMA wishes Geoff Neal a speedy recovery.

Chael Sonnen Suggests Three Opponents For Anderson Silva

Sonnen SilvaChael Sonnen has decided to play matchmaker with old foe Anderson Silva. Sonnen Silva

Chael Sonnen has decided to play matchmaker with old foe Anderson Silva.

Silva has two fights left on his current UFC contract as the former middleweight king looks set to return to action for the first time since his TKO defeat to Jared Cannonier in May last year.

The problem is UFC president Dana White doesn’t know who to match him up with. Silva recently called for fights with Conor McGregor and Anthony Pettis. However, White doesn’t seem to be as receptive to those ideas.

And so, Sonnen came up with his own suggestions in a recent YouTube video, starting with Nick Diaz.

“I’m starting with Diaz,” Sonnen said (via BJ Penn). “I’m not narrowing that down to Nick or Nate. Nick Diaz vs. Anderson works. We know it works because we’ve seen it once. It was a very fun fight. It was a fight I’m not sure that Nick won a round—a judge may have given him a round. He declared he won all five. It was great.

“You’re not talking about a contender match, you’re talking about having fun. What the hell’s wrong with that?”

Sonnen then suggested the younger Diaz sibling in Nate.

“What have we also seen about the Diazs? It doesn’t really matter which one it is,” Sonnen said. “I mean, right? It doesn’t really matter which one it is.

“I’m here to let you know Nate will bump up to 185 [pounds].”

Sonnen Suggests Silva vs. Lawler

Sonnen rounded it up with the most interesting suggestion yet — Robbie Lawler.

“Here’s one that might surprise you: Robbie Lawler,” he added. “Lawler might surprise you because he’s at 170 pounds. Go back and look at his career, he’s done plenty of work at 185.

“Not to mention, these guys are from the same era. So many people don’t know that because Robbie’s such a young guy. Robbie started at 19! He started at an oddly young age. Anderson started at a normal age. But they both date themselves back to the same year. The fact that these guys have never crossed is actually a bit surprising.

“This is something unique, this is something different, this something special, in all fairness.”

Do you agree with any of Sonnen’s picks? Who would you like to see “The Spider” face next?
