Top middleweight contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (24-4) is not going to sit back and let the UFC’s middleweight title picture sort itself out as he is continuing his attack on UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping (30-7) despite it looking like Yoel Romero (12-1) being the next in line for a crack at the title. Perhaps with Souza attacking Bisping online and in interviews, it will make the UFC reconsider as they are in the big fight business and will go with fights that get the most buzz.

Souza is coming off an impressive win over Tim Boetsch earlier this month at UFC 208 by submitting him in the opening round with a kimura finish. The fight had little upside for Souza, with Boetsch boasting knockout power but lacking top contender status, which sparked heat towards Souza for taking the fight. Souza was quick to point out that Bisping looked far down the rankings list in his November title defense with Dan Henderson and almost lost the fight. Souza took to Instagram to put Bisping on blast:

“Look what happens when I fight the #13 in the ranking! Look what happens when @mikebisping fights the #13 in the ranking!” Souza wrote alongside post-fight pictures of the two fighters after their most recent wins. “I heard that the scared Bisping talked some crap about me, lying, because he doesn’t have more excuses not to step inside the Octagon with me, exactly how cowards do. He said I looked like an amateur standing with the #13 ranked middleweight (Tim Boetsch), but we all remember how he left the fight against the #13 ranked middleweight (Dan Henderson). You were beat up!

“You’re stupid, Bisping! After getting knocked out by Hendo’s brutal right hand, you had seven years to learn, and when you fought again you couldn’t even defend the same right hand that put you to sleep.”

“He talked about my body, too,” Souza wrote. “This weird thing about noticing other athletes’ bodies. You can work for USADA and do my tests, that’s the closest you’d get to me without being afraid. And you’d better invest in your career as a blogger or writer because you’re not a real fighter!!”

#TimeJacare ???? . ???????? Look what happens when I fight the #13 in the ranking! Bisping is currently out of action with a knee injury, but he expects to be healed soon and then announce his next title bout. It should be interesting to see who the UFC books Bisping against.

UFC 208 went down tonight (Saturday, February 11, 2017) from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The slate was headlined by what turned out to be two controversial bouts. Germaine de Randamie twice punched Holly Holm after the bell without receiving a point deduction. She wound up winning a close decision, claiming the inaugural women’s featherweight strap and sending Holm to her third straight loss in the process. And Anderson Silva won a close unanimous decision in the co-headliner despite 19 of the 24 media scorecards tracked by MMADecisions.com having it for his opponent, Derek Brunson.

None of the top four fighters would receive bonuses. The event featured only one finish on the entire card, a first-round kimura by Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. The Brazilian took home the lone $50,000 Performance of the Night check for dispatching Tim Boetsch in quick and impressive fashion.

The Fight of the Night was almost decided before the event even began. All-action lightweights Dustin Poirier and Jim Miller delivered on expectations, and then some. Leg kicks from Miller badly damaged Poirier’s lead leg, but the Louisianan stayed in Miller’s face with power punches all night long. Poirier also tested the tricky Miller guard on a couple of occasions, but mostly it was the slugfest the matchmakers had in mind when they booked it. Poirier’s power and volume made the difference, as he emerged with a unanimous decision, though he could barely stand afterward. Both men pocketed an extra $50,000 for their efforts.

No. 2-ranked UFC middleweight contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is likely already deserving of a shot at middleweight champion Michael Bisping, as he’s won nine of his last 10 bouts with the only loss in that stretch being a controversial decision loss to No. 1-ranked Yoel Romero.

Instead of fighting for the title, or facing off with a top contender, however, Souza will take on No. 13-ranked Tim Boetsch at this weekend’s (Sat., Feb. 11, 2017) UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“Jacare” recently explained to MMAJunkie why he accepted the bout against the ‘tough’ Boetsch:

“In order to keep myself active,” Souza said. “All the guys who waited a long time without a fight, they didn’t come back quite as well. Not to mention that I don’t even know that, if I wait, I’ll fight for the belt. So I have to stay active.”

“I think he’s very tough, with a very hard right hand that can make it difficult for anyone,” Souza said. “He’s a very strong opponent in this division.”

“But I also have a few tricks up my sleeve for him,” Souza said. “So I think I’ll do a good job and end this fight before the final bell.”

As far as Bisping goes, Souza feels as if “The Count” being the champion is a ‘disaster’ for the division. The Brazilian also said that Bisping ‘doesn’t want to fight’ the top middleweight contenders:

“I, honestly, am here to do my job,” Souza said. “My job is not running, it’s fighting. I always say Bisping was a disaster for the middleweight division. Not because he’s the champion, because he did his job masterfully to become champion, but he doesn’t want to fight anyone at the top of the division, and that makes it difficult. He brought the division to a halt.”

Do you agree with Souza’s comments and do you expect him to come out on top this weekend?

UFC 208 may not be the most anticipated pay-per-view (PPV) card in recent memory, but it certainly serves as a pivotal one for some of the fighters competing on it.

The event, which takes place this Saturday night (Feb. 11, 2017) from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, is set to be headlined by an inaugural women’s featherweight title match between former bantamweight champion Holly Holm and decorated Muay Thai fighter Germaine de Randamie. The co-main event will play host to a middleweight bout between No. 7-ranked former longtime divisional kingpin Anderson Silva and No. 8-ranked Derek Brunson. That isn’t all, however, as there are some other important fights scattered across the card as well.

With that being said, let’s take a look at five fighters in desperate need of a win at UFC 208:

Holly Holm

Former multi-time boxing world champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm has made quite a name for herself in the sport of mixed martial arts, most notably for being the woman to dethrone former longtime 135-pound queen Ronda Rousey with a brutal stoppage victory at Nov. 2015’s UFC 193 from Australia.

Since that shocking win, however, Holm has dropped back-to-back bouts, surrendering the title via fifth-round submission to Miesha Tate at March 2016’s UFC 196 and dropping a decision to No. 1-ranked bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko last July.

While de Randamie is an accomplished Muay Thai fighter, she hasn’t quite gained that same recognition within the sport of mixed martial arts yet, although her skills speak for themselves. Holm is undoubtedly facing a tough test, and another loss could prove detrimental to her career.

Not only would it mark her third straight inside the Octagon, but it may lead many to label her a one-hit wonder.

‘Jacare’ Souza: Luke Rockhold Is Afraid To Fight Me

Many may have been scratching their heads when the UFC announced that No. 2-ranked middleweight Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza will meet No. 14-ranked Tim Boetsch at UFC 208, but Souza is just happy that he won’t be sidelined for a period of time that may cause him to get rusty.

Souza recently spoke with MMA Fighting to discuss his upcoming contest with Boetsch, in which he expressed his disappointment in not being able to take on a top ranked opponent at 185 pounds due to a plethora of injuries in the division:

“At least I have an opponent and a fight,” Souza said. “Fighters that stayed inactive for a long time don’t do well in the end, so I wanted to stay active. My intention was to fight a top contender in the division, but everyone is hurt.”

‘Jacare’ was originally set to meet former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at UFC Melbourne this past November, what would have been a rematch from their initial Strikeforce bout in 2011 which Rockhold won via unanimous decision, but unfortunately Rockhold was forced out with an injury.

Since then Rockhold has been seen training on social media in addition to challenging former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to a grappling match, sparking skepticism from Souza who is beginning to wonder if the AKA product was ever really injured at all:

“Rockhold is afraid,” Souza said. “He said he’s hurt, but I see him training all the time on social media, and then he said he wanted to face Jon Jones in a grappling match in January. That makes no sense. He’s not hurt. If he’s injured, he can’t grapple Jon Jones. That’s impossible.

“It bothers me because I wanted to fight in November. Injuries are part of the sport, it happens, but I never thought Rockhold would fake an injury. At first I thought he was hurt, but now I see he just chickened out. It’s clear he’s not injured.”

As for Souza’s upcoming meeting with Boetsch, the Brazilian is not overlooking his lesser-ranked foe, as he gives him credit for his fight-ending power that has been the downfall of his past two opponents:

“This guy is trouble. Tim Boetsch is trouble,” Souza said. “He has a heavy hand and can complicate anyone, but I will stay focused to put on a great fight and win. His power is incredible. He’s really dangerous. If you blink, you might wake up later wondering what happened.”

With a win over Boetsch, Souza could finally get his long-awaited shot at UFC gold. The UFC’s current 185-pound champion, Michael Bisping, has been campaigning alongside welterweight champion Tyron Woodley for the UFC to make a catchweight bout of 180 pounds between the two.

After those attempts failed Bisping now awaits the next challenger to his throne, but ‘Jacare’ believes the ‘accidental champion’ Bisping’s recent actions were a cowardly attempt to dodge the top contender at 185 pounds:

“I don’t even want to hear about Bisping anymore, because he’s a p*ssy,” “”Jacare” said. “He wants to fight anyone but the top contenders in the middleweight division. I won’t run after a p*ssy like Bisping. Everybody knows he became champion by accident. That was an accident. And now he doesn’t wanna fight a top contender. He wants to hatch the belt.”

“That’s typical of him,” Souza said. “I won’t waste any energy with this nonsense.”

Souza and Boetsch will meet at UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on February 11, 2017.

Current No. 3-ranked middleweight Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza has been lobbying for a chance to compete for the 185-pound title, but has instead been handed an opponent ranked outside of the top ten.

It has been confirmed that ‘Jacare’ will take on No. 14-ranked Tim Boetsch at UFC 208 on February 11 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The match-up doesn’t do much for Souza in terms of his title hunt, but could mean everything for Boetsch if he is able to upset the former Brazilian champ.

Souza has lost only one bout in almost four years, and that came in a close split decision loss to Yoel Romero, as he comes off of a grizzly first round knockout win over former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor ‘The Phenom’ Belfort at UFC 198 this past May. The Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt is a 14-year veteran of the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), holding wins over names such as Tim Kennedy, Robbie Lawler, Derek Brunson, Gegard Mousasi, and many more.

Boetsch is currently on a two-fight win streak in which he finished both of those contest rather early, beating both Josh Samman and Rafael Natal via knockout in the second and first rounds. A potential win over Souza would certainly be the biggest one of the former NCAA Division I competitor’s MMA career.

UFC 208 will go down live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on February 11, 2017.

What are your thoughts on the odd match-up?
