UFC President Dana White seems to agree with Rousey on this topic, recently telling TMZ that her fighting career is ‘winding down’:

“I don’t want to take the wind out of her sails. I’ll let her say her own stuff. Obviously I know what’s going on, but yeah, it’s winding down for Ronda,” White said. “That’s up to her to say (how many fights she has left), but she’ll have enough for us to still enjoy watching her.”

While the UFC boss didn’t necessarily say that Rousey’s fight with Nunes will be her last, he did say that she’ll likely move into acting after she hangs up her gloves for good:

“She made a lot of money. She accomplished what she set out to do,” he said. “And she loves acting. She loves acting. She’s good at it. If she dedicated herself to it, she would be even better at it.”

“I think when she says she’s done, she’s done. She stopped doing Judo and moved on to Mixed Martial Arts, and I think when she’s done with that, she will probably move on to acting.”

Rousey has already performed in multiple major films, and acting certainly provides a safer, yet highly lucrative alternative to fighting, so it’s not surprising to see White predict this for her future.

Prior to her brutal UFC 193 knockout loss to Holly Holm, Rousey was considered to be the very best female fighter on the planet, and she may still be, but there are also some question marks surrounding her return. In addition to that, Rousey will have been away from the cage for over a year by the time UFC 207 goes down.

And she will be facing off with a tremendously dangerous fighter in Nunes, who has rattled off four straight wins since 2014 including a dominant submission win over Miesha Tate in her most recent fight.

Nunes will be looking to make the first defense of her title against Rousey after viciously stopping Miesha Tate at July 9’s UFC 200 to secure the strap. The Brazilian appears to be very confident heading into the bout despite it being without question the biggest fight of her career:

“This fight is gonna change my life, my career,” Nunes told TMZ. “I hope she’s ready. I know she’s a very tough opponent, but I’m the best in the world.”

“She’s gonna be surprised when I connect with my punches,” Nunes continued. “This is gonna be harder for Ronda, because everyone expects her to win. She can’t, she knows that.”

Prior to stopping Tate, “Lioness” had won three straight bouts over the likes of Shayna Baszler, Sara McMann and Valentina Schevchenko with two of those victories coming by way of finish. She currently holds a 6-1 Octagon record.

Rousey, on the other hand, held an undefeated professional record before Holm snapped her 13 fight winning streak. The “Rowdy” one has stayed away from the media during the last year, and it’s unknown where she is currently at mentally and physically, but we’d have to assume that she will be coming full force in hopes of getting the title back.

Nunes has multiple options regarding potential opponents including No. 3-ranked Valentina Shevchenko and No. 5-ranked Julianna Pena. Recently speaking on the matter, however, Nunes made it very clear who she’d like to fight next:

“I don’t know anything yet, I’m waiting for the call. It’s highly likely (a bout with Ronda Rousey), right?” Nunes told Combate. “Those girls are crazy. Juliana Pena says I’m running from her, Valentina Shevchenko also said I’m running from her, and now she’s saying Juliana Pena is running from her, too. I don’t like to play games.

“If they ask me who I want to fight, I’m going to say I want to fight Ronda. I’m not running from anyone, I’m the champion and I can choose who I’m going to fight. I will choose what’s best for me and Ronda would be ‘the’ main fight, that’s why it has to be against her, it has to be with Ronda.”

Rousey has been out of action since being brutally knocked out by Holly Holm last November, but it has been rumored that she could potentially return at December’s UFC 207 from Las Vegas. Nunes also said that she could be competing next on that card, and if it happens to be against the “Rowdy” one, the Brazilian champion would be quite confident:

“I train at American Top Team today, the biggest MMA gym in the world, and it will be complicated to take this belt away from me,” Nunes said. “Ronda knows what’s like to have this belt, she knows the power this belt has. I think that’s why she’s taking so long to sign this contract.”

Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino has continued her verbal assault on former UFC bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey.

Rousey hasn’t competed since last November after she surrendered her title in brutal fashion to Holly Holm at UFC 193, but Justino, who scored yet another devastating stoppage victory over Lina Lansberg at last month’s UFC Fight Night 95, recently called out the ex-champion for a fight at the UFC’s card on super bowl weekend.

Rousey has laid low in the media throughout the last year, and her return has not yet been confirmed, but UFC President Dana White recently said that she was interested in finally facing off with the Brazilian slugger. “Cyborg”, however, says that if the fight is to ever take place, Rousey will need surgery when it’s all said and done:

“My last fight, I broke the nose of the girl in three places,” Cyborg told Jason Whitlock on FS1’s “Speak For Yourself”. “Sure, if I fight her she’ll have to do surgery on her face after. I’m not kidding.”

“Ronda doesn’t say anything,” Cyborg said. “She doesn’t even say my name. She used [UFC president] Dana White and her mother to talk to me, because she knows if she says my name, she’ll have to fight me. She knows this.”

Prior to Rousey’s sudden downfall last year, fans around the world fathomed over the idea of a potential super fight between her and Justino, hoping to see “Rousey’s” Olympic Judo skills go up against Justino’s tremendous knockout power. “Cyborg”, however, has never seemed to be concerned with Rousey, especially on the feet, and she’s not sure if the former champion will return to form after the loss she suffered:

“I watched her do shadow box and the shadow won,” Cyborg said. “Maybe that means when Mike Tyson lose his fight by KO, he never the same. Maybe it means that Ronda lost her last fight and she’s never the same. But not because she KOs people. She never did this.”

No. 5-ranked Julianna Pena is riding a winning streak and campaigning for a title shot while No. 3-ranked Valentina Shevchenko is also gunning for a shot at gold after recently beating former titleholder Holly Holm. But as always, a dark cloud is looming over the division regarding the potential return of previously dominant champion Ronda Rousey, who’s been out of action since getting knocked out by Holm last November.

If the “Rowdy” one plans on returning in the near future, Nunes will be waiting, and the Brazilian feels confident that she would match up well against Rousey:

“I’ve been training jiu-jitsu since I started. Jiu-jitsu and judo both together. I know how to block very well judo throws, I know how to use my hips very well. I know if Ronda Rousey is coming back, I’m going to keep the championship,” Nunes said during a Q&A session ahead of UFC 201.

If the former champion isn’t coming back any time soon, Nunes acknowledges that both Pena and Shevchenko are deserving of a title shot, but she also once again made it clear that her eyes are set on a bout with Rousey:

“Ronda Rousey,” Nunes said when asked point blank who she wants next. “But we have a couple of girls in line right now — Julianna Pena, Valentina Shevchenko, and if Ronda’s not coming back, I’ll take Julianna Pena. It’s no problem.”
