Ronda Rousey has experienced a sudden fall from grace over the last 14 months. The once-dominant UFC women’s bantamweight champion has lost her last two bouts by knockout and her fighting future is currently unclear.

After being on the wrong end of a brutal Holly Holm head kick at Nov. 2015’s UFC 193, Rousey spent the majority of 2016 on the sidelines. With the belt no longer wrapped around her waist, the “Rowdy” one faded out of the limelight, but she made her long-awaited return at last Friday’s (Dec. 30, 2016) UFC 207 from Las Vegas. Unfortunately for Rousey, this loss was far more harrowing than the last, as she was finished by Amanda Nunes in just 48 seconds.

Due to her current losing streak and the fact that she has remained relatively quiet in the media – something unusual for a star of her stature – Rousey has received a tremendous amount of criticism. While some of that criticism may be warranted, it seems fight fans are suddenly downplaying Rousey’s previous accomplishments.

Perhaps fans are forgetting that the former Olympian has held titles in two different promotions? Perhaps fans are forgetting that we’re speaking of the female who brought women’s MMA to the UFC, and therefore the mainstream? Perhaps fans have forgotten that Rousey will always be known as the inaugural UFC 135-pound champion and that she defended her title six consecutive times?

With that being said, let’s flip the script, stop trashing Rousey for a moment and take a look at ‘Rowdy’s’ five best fighting moments:

Rousey vs. Tate 1

Miesha Tate vs. Ronda Rousey:

Ronda Rousey made her bantamweight debut in a title fight against fellow pioneer and then Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Miesha “Cupcake” Tate at Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey on March 3, 2012.

After scoring four straight first round armbar victories, Rousey was put in the headlining role against her bitter rival with a title on the line. To say that she made the most of the opportunity would be an understatement, as she ended up scoring yet another first round armbar victory over Tate to secure the title. In fact, Rousey even snapped Tate’s arm in gruesome fashion, which just added an exclamation point to the victory.

Establishing herself as a legitimate star and a legitimate force in this fight, Rousey would go on to defend her Strikeforce strap one time before making the jump to the UFC.

Five Reasons Ronda Rousey Will Be Back In Full Force

When Ronda Rousey signed with the UFC in 2012, it was clear that the promotion had a star on its hands, but perhaps no one knew just how big that star would become.

The “Rowdy” one quickly transcended the sport, becoming one of the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) draws in the UFC and rattling off six straight defenses of her long held 135-pound title. All six of those title defenses came by way of stoppage as well.

Rousey seemed to improve each and every time out and as she continued to succeed inside of the Octagon, her status outside of it skyrocketed as well. Heading into her UFC 193 (Nov. 15, 2015) title defense against Holly Holm in Melbourne, Australia, Rousey was on top of the world, but as we’ve learned, mixed martial arts is a sport that includes the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The “Rowdy” one would end up suffering a brutal knockout at the hands of Holm and we’ve seen very little of her sense.

Despite her absence from the public eye, Rousey will return in the main event of this Friday’s (Dec. 30, 2016) UFC 207 from Las Vegas, Nevada to challenge champion Amanda Nunes for the title. Many have been unsure of what to expect from Rousey in her comeback fight, but let’s take a look at five reasons why she may return to full force come fight night:

Lack of Media

Prior to UFC 193, Rousey was a media machine, which, in addition to her elite level fighting skills, is what turned her in to the mega star she had become. “The Rowdy” one consistently made appearances on notable talk shows, as well as often taking part in various interviews and photo shoots with the world’s most prominent outlets and magazines.

Rousey was essentially everywhere, but that perhaps could’ve led to her downfall. Leading up to UFC 207, the ex-champion has refused to take part in any media obligations aside from a few talk show appearances, as she did an interview with Ellen DeGeneres as well as Conan O’Brien. Other than that, however, Rousey has been a shell of her former self in terms of media and promotion.

This may serve as a positive factor though. Rousey has admitted that she was too focused on making everyone around her happy and always saying “yes” rather than focusing on the task at hand. Perhaps her training for the Holm fight was hindered because of this.

With the lack of media she’s done leading up to UFC 207, I’d have to assume the former Olympian is solely focused on the upcoming fight, which may end up benefitting her when the cage door closes.

Really? Ronda Rousey Targeted By Lingerie Fighting Championships

UFC President Dana White has said multiple times that he expects former longtime women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey to return to the Octagon at some point, but that scenario is still highly unclear. After suffering a brutal and shocking knockout loss to Holly Holm last November, Rousey has remained relatively quiet within the media aside from shooting movies, and a date for her comeback has not yet been announced.

Some have even spoke upon Rousey never fighting in the UFC again as she has the money to do so, but if she does indeed decide to walk away from the promotion, she’ll have an offer waiting for her from quite an interesting fight promotion: Lingerie Fighting Championships. Check out what Shaun Donnelly, an executive from LFC, said in a press release (Via Bloody Elbow) regarding Rousey:

Lingerie Fighting Championships, Inc. (“LFC”) (OTCQB:BOTY) announced today that it will pursue Ronda Rousey in the event she retires from the UFC.

“Ronda Rousey has long been at the very top of our wish list,” said Shaun Donnelly, LFC’s Chief Executive Officer. “Not only is she one of the top fighters of all time, she is also a very beautiful woman who isn’t afraid to show off her sexy side.”

??LFC has never made an offer to any fighter already under contract with another league but recent rumors that Rousey plans to retire if she loses a rematch to Holly Holm has changed the landscape.??

“We have reason to believe that Ms. Rousey might seriously consider a role with Lingerie Fighting Championships, either as a competitor or an ambassador,” Donnelly says. “She has been critical in the past at how little female fighters are paid and LFC has always shown a real commitment to paying our fighters very well.”??

Previous LFC events have boasted purses in excess of $15,000 and while Donnelly acknowledges this is a very small sum compared to what Rousey earns with the UFC, it is anticipated the publicly traded company might make an offer that combines purse with shares of the company.??

“It’s still a long shot at this point,” Donnelly admits. “For one thing, I don’t believe Rousey will lose to Holm a second time. She’s an exceptional fighter and she’s going to have a long time to prepare. I wouldn’t bet against her under those circumstances.”??

In the meantime, Lingerie Fighting Championships 21: Naughty ‘n Nice will air on more than 1000 cable / satellite systems and networks worldwide on August 12 @ 10pm ET / 7pm PT. Check your local cable listings.

As Donnelly said it’s quite a ‘long shot’, as it’d be hard to imagine a superstar like Rousey leaving the world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion to compete in a rather unknown organization, but it’s an intriguing idea nonetheless.

Holly Holm Doesn’t Want To Be Remembered For ‘One Great Fight’

Top UFC women’s bantamweight contender Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm has experienced a sudden fall from grace in recent months. She first lost her 135-pound title in March at the hands of Miesha Tate, and most recently she was defeated by Valentina Shevchenko in the main event of last weekend’s (July 30, 2016) UFC on FOX 20 from Chicago, Illinois.

Speaking with MMAJunkie on the loss, Holm admits that she’d just like to get back into the cage because she doesn’t want to be remembered for ‘one great fight’, and of course that fight would be her bout with previously dominant champion Ronda Rousey last November in which she scored a breathtaking knockout victory:

“Coming off a loss, all you want, I think, is just to get back in there,” Holm said. “But here we are again. I think that I just need to take whatever opportunity comes. I still feel that way. A lot of people are asking about taking a fight (instead of waiting to rematch Rousey), but I don’t want to be known for one great fight. I don’t want to be known for a few great fights. I want to be known for doing a lot. I don’t want to be content with one performance. I want to do more.”

As far as her bout with Shevchenko goes, “The Preacher’s Daughter” said that although she was angry about it, she has nowhere to move but forward:

“I can’t say that I was surprised by anything – I just didn’t perform to the best of my ability and I didn’t leave it all out there,” Holm said. “I had more to give for sure. I knew it was a close fight, but I knew I had to do more. I don’t ever want it to be a close fight. I don’t ever want it to be like that.”

“I’m just angry, that’s all,” Holm continued. “Who wants two losses in a row? But what can you do? … It’s still onward up, it’s still forward.”

Who would you like to see Holm attempt to bounce back against next?

Former UFC bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is without question one of the sport’s biggest stars despite falling on rough times recently.

The “Rowdy” one has been out of action since surrendering her title in brutal fashion to Holly Holm at November 2015’s UFC 193 from Melbourne, Australia.

Aside from her loss, Rousey led a very successful event at UFC 193 which took place at the massive 50,000 plus seat Etihad Stadium. The show was monumental to say the least, but that doesn’t mean that every Australian was too fond of the action.

In fact, one certain Australian reporter had some very harsh comments regarding the card, bashing not only Rousey, but the ‘bloodbath’ that is the UFC as well.

Check out what Susie O’Brien of Melbourne’s Herald Sun had to say below:

“Ronda, we don’t need to encourage people to pay good money to watch you get battered into oblivion, or to watch you do the same to your opponent.

My colleague, Ron Reed, who went to the Holm v Rousey fight last year, said the crowd was roaring things like “cut off his f—— head” and “I want to see blood”.

I don’t think UFC is entertainment and it shouldn’t be served up as such in any Australian city. It’s nothing more than a dangerous form of sadistic voyeurism that feeds off the injuries sustained by others.

This is not sport. It’s a bloodbath that glorifies violence.”

Well, O’Brien sure wasn’t holding back with those statements.

As for Rousey, the ex-champion has yet to return since being knocked out by Holm, but there have been rumors of her making her highly-anticipated comeback at November 12’s UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden in New York.

What do you make of these comments regarding Rousey and the sport as a whole?

Since the very moment that “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey was shockingly knocked unconscious by Holly Holm at November 2015’s UFC 193, fans wondered if and when she would return and attempt to recapture her long-held title.

Six months later, and Rousey still hasn’t competed, and still doesn’t have a fight scheduled, although it’s expected that the ex-champion will return on November 12, 2016 at UFC 205 in New York to compete for the 135-pound strap.

UFC 205 will be a landmark event for the UFC, as it will be the promotion’s first trip to the Empire state, and its first trip to the infamous Madison Square Garden, making it logical to have a mega-star like Rousey on the card.

The scenario undoubtedly makes sense, as does the timing given the fact that current champion Miesha Tate will defend her title against Amanda Nunes at July 9’s UFC 200 from Las Vegas.

The only issue, however, seems to be that UFC President Dana White just isn’t completely sure that Rousey will be ready to return in November:

“She has as much time off as she wants or needs. Obviously, I would love her to come back sooner than later so we’ll see how that plays out but it wouldn’t be a bad thing to roll into New York with Ronda but I just don’t know if she’s going to be ready,” White revealed when speaking to “The Michael Kay Show“.

Rousey competing at UFC 205 seemed to previously be all but confirmed, although as we’ve seen so many times before, nothing is a sure thing in mixed martial arts.

White is sure of one thing, however, and that is that when Rousey does finally announce her return it will be massive:

“When she announces she’s going to be back, it’s going to be big,” White said.

Do you still expect to see Rousey at MSG?
