A notable rule change has Roy Jones Jr. firmly believing that Jake Paul could be in for some trouble in his rapidly approaching battle with the grizzled legend Mike Tyson.

The fight will occur on November 15th at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It will supposedly be live-streamed to Netflix, and anybody with a subscription can catch the action.

Despite the gigantic 31-year age gap between the fighters, the fight has also been sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to be an official professional heavyweight boxing match. However, there have been a few alterations to the rules of the fight, which has Roy Jones Jr. believing that Jake Paul could be in for a long night.

Roy Jones Jr. Speaks on the rule changes for the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight

The fight’s rule change will see Paul and Tyson fight in 14-ounce gloves instead of the standard 10-ounce mitts. The duo will also box over eight two-minute rounds as opposed to the traditional three-minute rounds.

Mike Tyson was said to want the shorter rounds, as he said it would cause “more action. Roy Jones Jr., who faced Tyson back in 2020, doesn’t think these rule changes will suit Jake Paul very well.

“That’s the real question: how much can Jake survive?” Jones Jr told talkSPORT Drive (H/T Talk Sport). “That’s the real question because Mike has what it takes to get anyone out of there.”

“And I’m going to tell you this, when I boxed him four years ago it was only two-minute rounds but surprisingly he didn’t decline, he stayed the same the whole fight. And that surprised me. If they are doing two-minute rounds then Mike is not going to tire out, I already know that because I watched him do that.”

Jones Jr. is pretty confident that Tyson has got this one in the bag but doesn’t foresee any knockouts. Instead, he’s calling for the old legend to win via points.

“Well, I like Mike, probably by decision,” he said. “But if he chooses to go out and take him out, I think he can. However, I feel like if he feels comfortable, he will just box and enjoy himself. Why get in shape to go one round?”

“I don’t fear for Mike and how old he is. Mike is still hard to hit and Mike still hits hard as hell.”

Mike Tyson Takes Credit for Starting Jake Paul's Career—And Now He's Going to Finish It

Mike Tyson gave Jake Paul his first big break in the boxing ring.

Four years later, the two generational stars will collide in one of the most-watched fights in the sport’s history. Emanating from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Paul vs. Tyson will headline a loaded card airing live and exclusively on Netflix at no additional charge for the streaming giant’s 260 million+ subscribers.

Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul

While Tyson’s journey in the world of boxing came to an end nearly 20 years ago following a sixth-round loss to Kevin McBride, Paul’s has barely begun. Thus far, ‘The Problem Child’ is 10-1 with victories over a slew of past-their-prime MMA stars, including Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz.

But before all of those fights, Paul’s first noteworthy appearance inside the squared circle came against former NBA star Nate Robinson. Their clash was the co-main event of Tyson’s charity exhibition boxing bout against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020.

Four years later things will come full circle as the former unified heavyweight world champion aims to end the career he helped start.

“I don’t know [why he wants to fight me]. I’m close to 60 years old,” Tyson said on the It Is What It Is podcast. “He’s going to get a lot of money as well. He’s improved since the first time he fought on my card. I started Jake off, I let him fight on my undercard a few years ago. No one knew who the hell he was. I started him and it looks like most likely I’m going to finish him” (h/t Middle Easy).

Roy Jones Jr. questions whether or not jake paul can take Mike Tyson’s power

Whether or not the 58-year-old icon can get the job done remains to be seen, but oddsmakers certainly don’t seem confident. As it stands, Paul is a more than 3-to-1 favorite to come out on top against ‘Iron’ in The Lone Star State. Still, some believe Tyson’s legendary power will be on full display leading to a complete and total backfire on the part of Paul.

“The first time he hit me in the chest, it felt like a mule had kicked me in the chest and if he hits anybody with a shot like that, they are either going out or down, especially guys who are not used to being hit like that,” Roy Jones Jr. said during an appearance on the Sugar Shane Show.

“With these types of people like Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, these guys are bigger and can take it. but Jake Paul, I don’t think he’s going to be able to take that. It might hit him on the chin like that, we’ll see, but it’s going to be tough” (The Sportster).

Boxing Legend Roy Jones Jr. wants to fight tommy fury: ‘That would be out of this world’

Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. is ready to throw hands with Tommy Fury.

It will be a star-studded event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as some of the biggest names in combat sports head to the Middle East to take in Saturday’s highly anticipated clash between former UFC champion Francis Ngannou and reigning WBC heavyweight titleholder Tyson Fury.

Two of those stars, multi-time world champion Roy Jones Jr. and Tyson Fury’s undefeated younger brother, Tommy Fury, hooked up and verbally agreed to strap on the eight-ounce gloves against one another if Fury’s father, John Fury, steps inside the ring with another icon of the sport, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.

“I said if your father fights Mike [Tyson], me and you do the co-main event,” Jones Jr. said in a video clip shared by Happy Punch on X. “That would be out of this world, brother. If they fight, me and him on the undercard.”

Tommy Fury was 100 percent on board with the idea saying, “Let’s do it. Honestly.”

John Fury, the eccentric father of both Tommy and Tyson Fury, has taken issue with Mike Tyson’s involvement in his son’s fight against Francis Ngannou, suggesting that the former undisputed heavyweight world champion is a traitor to his sport by coaching an MMA fighter against a legitimate boxer. As a result, John Fury has called for a boxing match with Mike Tyson to settle their differences like proper warriors.

Mike Tyson last competed in November 2020, stepping into the ring for an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr. The bout was dubbed a draw after eight rounds and it appeared that ‘Iron’ was all, but retired following the contest. But when it comes to a big money-making opportunity, never say never.

“I don’t do that stuff no more,” Mike Tyson told TheMACLife when asked about a potential exhibition bout with John Fury. “I only fight for money. Everybody wants me to fight an exhibition. Everybody. Hey, listen… If the price is right.”

With both John and Tommy Fury on board for the potential event, perhaps Tyson Fury will book himself a fight on the card and make it a full-on family affair.

Legendary pugilist Roy Jones Jr. wouldn’t blame Nate Diaz for taking a shot at the absolute joke that is Derek from Betr Media.

On Thursday, Derek once again proved himself to be a giant boyle on the a** of combat sports media by using his opportunity to be part of the festivities as a way to get himself over like a pro wrestler going off-script. Derek made his presence known earlier this year during a May press event and immediately got on the Stockton native’s bad side when he took a dig at both Diaz brothers.

“Nate, I’m actually a boxer myself and I’ve been trying to get into this undercard,” Derek said. “I’m just wondering if you think I could fight your brother, Nick, because if he’s anything like you I think I’d beat his f*cking ass.”

Unfortunately, Derek managed to get himself into Thursday’s pre-fight press conference and once again went into business for himself by attacking Nate Diaz in a most unprofessional manner.

“I’m sorry that your feelings were hurt,” Derek said in regards to their first encounter. “Maybe if your boys see me, maybe they won’t f*ck me up this week. Anything to say Nate? Can’t wait to watch Jake knock you the f—k out.”

The entire encounter was clearly orchestrated by Jake Paul in order to get a response out of Nate Diaz. In that regard, it was 100% effective, but it was nevertheless a classless move by all parties involved and only serves to make members of the media and the next generation of combat sports athletes look that much more pathetic.

Roy Jones Jr. Responds to Troll at Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz Press Conference

In an interview with TheMACLife, boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. was fired up looking back on the incident and suggested that if it had happened to him during his heyday, he would have made every effort to put his hands on the man that intentionally disrespected him to chase a little bit of clout.

“Come in and be respectful or you shouldn’t be allowed to come in,” Jones Jr. said. “So for guys like that, if you didn’t respect me from the press conference, he should be escorted out and not allowed to be in the press conference again. He better not show his face again because if he does, they should… Dude’s disrespectful. If it were me, I would tell my people to let me get to him because I wanna bust him in his damn mouth. You got so much to say, let me see you defend yourself.”

As for how Jones Jr. sees Nate Diaz fairing in his pro boxing debut, the multi-time world champion believes it will all come down to defense.

“Nate’s gonna do good. Really it’ll just be about how long can he last,” Jones Jr. said. “Can he take Jake’s punch and how much [punishment] can he handle? He’s a real good fighter. He’s a very good striker so if he has good defense… All I’m worried about is his defense. Offensively he’s great. I know he can fight offensive because he’s sparred with some of the best. He’s been around the game. He’s one of the best strikers in MMA. So I know he can strike. But in boxing, because we got gloves, it’s about also what can you take.”

Anthony Pettis

On Saturday night, former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis strapped on the 16oz gloves for the first time in his combat sports career. Headlining the stacked Gamebred Boxing 4 event in his hometown of Milwaukee, ‘Showtime’ squared off with legendary pugilist Roy Jones Jr. in an event that brought the worlds of mixed martial arts and professional boxing together like never before.

Anthony Pettis came out and immediately attempted to dictate the pace of the matchup, keeping Jones Jr. on the ropes for the majority of the opening round. As the fight progressed, Jones Jr. began to let his hands go and attempted to move forward rather than allowing ‘Showtime’ to pressure him. As Jones Jr. moved forward, Pettis had no issues firing shots at the boxing legend.

What Pettis lacked in clean strikes, he more than made up for in volume throughout the eight-round affair. After 24 minutes of action, we went to the scorecards where the commentary team felt the decision would be clearly in favor of Jones Jr. As it turns out, Anthony Pettis’ was more than enough to get the nod on two of the three scorecards, securing a win for the Milwaukee native in his professional boxing debut.

Official Result: Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis def. Roy Jones Jr. via majority decision (76-76, 77-75, 78-74)

As the sport of MMA continues to grow and evolve, so do the athletes and the skill sets that they bring to the table.

There have always been great strikers competing in MMA and though grappling may still be an incredibly dominant aspect of the game, some of the top fighters in the world do their best work on the feet.

Roy Jones Jr. knows a thing or two about the art of hitting without getting hit back as one of the greatest to ever step inside a boxing ring.

As an avid MMA fan, who was sat front row for UFC 306 at the Sphere this past weekend, who better to talk about the best strikers in the sport right now.

He pointed to a fighter that combines all aspects of what you would want to see from an exciting and dangerous stand-up artist, a point that was also made by Teddy Atlas.
