Fedor Emelianenko has shut down the idea of a possible cross-promotional fight between himself and Junior dos Santos.

Eagle FC owner and former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov recently expressed interest in a fight between the two heavyweights leading up to dos Santos’s Eagle FC debut in May. That main event bout between Yorgan De Castro and dos Santos ended when the former UFC heavyweight champion injured his shoulder early in the third round.

In an interview with Russia media outlet Okko, Emelianenko indicated that the result of that fight took some appeal away from a potential matchup between himself and the Brazilian.

“A meeting was planned with Scott Coker. But, as I understand it, Scott and I are not interested in this fight with Junior dos Santos. First of all, because of the defeat of the latter.”

“Cigano” was ahead on the scorecards heading into the third round of the fight at Eagle FC 47 before dislocating his shoulder just over 30 seconds into the final round. De Castro subsequently left the cage as the winner, and the 38-year-old dos Santos suffered his first loss since leaving the UFC and fifth in a row overall.

Fedor Emelianenko has been competing for Bellator since 2017 and has gone 4-2 during his time in the promotion. The 45-year-old is currently on a two-fight win streak after first-round knockouts of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Tim Johnson.

“The Last Emperor” suffered his most recent loss when he challenged Ryan Bader for the Bellator heavyweight championship in 2019. Emelianenko currently has one-fight remaining on his Bellator contract, and he’s indicated a desire to challenge Bader again for the title in what could also end up being his retirement fight.

Considered by many to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, Junior dos Santos recently named Emelianenko as his GOAT of heavyweight MMA.

What do you think of Fedor Emelianenko’s comments that a fight with Junior dos Santos has lost its appeal?

Logan Storley Michael Page Scott Coker Bellator 281

After the win of his career at Bellator 281, Logan Storley now finds himself on top of the MMA world after a hellacious climb, defeating Michael Page for the interim welterweight championship.

However, ‘Storm’ wasn’t too fond of the comments by Bellator President Scott Coker and Michael ‘Venom’ Page after the decision. Feeling like excuses were being made on why Page didn’t get his hand raised after the fight was over.

On The MMA Hour, Page ridiculed Storley’s game plan and accused him of basically playing things safe.

Storley would respond with some venom of his own, telling MMA Fighting: “I think he’s a great dude, and he’s a hell of a fighter, and I respect the hell out of ‘MVP,’ but at the end of the day, you couldn’t stop a takedown.”

Logan Storley Talks Bellator 281 and Reacts to Scott Coker’s and Michael Page’s ‘Excuses’

“You couldn’t stop anything I was doing on top. You couldn’t get away from me. Anyone that has a problem with that, I don’t know what to tell you,” Storley continued.

“I stood up with you for probably 10 or 11 minutes of the fight — why didn’t you drop me? Why didn’t you hurt me? I gave you all the time in the fourth round. We were both tired — why didn’t you knock me out? All he said before the fight was, ‘It only takes one second.’ Why didn’t you do that? That’s my question. If you’re so good, why didn’t you knock me out in that one second that it took?”

‘Storm’ would complement the Englishman on his skill and agility in the standup situation, but Page really failed to provide any fight-ending sequence or combo of significant note.

Logan Storley (14-1, 9-1 Bellator) is the new interim welterweight champion after his dominant victory, and the real story behind the fight is his grappling prowess. A four-time All-American and D-1 wrestler from the University of Minnesota, it’s very easy to see why Storley’s grappling is just so dominant.

Logan Storley Addresses the ‘Excuses’

‘Storm’ wasn’t done addressing his new rival, though, as he’d also say: “You can’t sit here after the fight and come up with all these excuses. I stood on the feet with you for eight to 10 minutes, and you couldn’t hurt me. If you’re the world’s best striker and you’re so dangerous, and it only takes a split second, well, you didn’t find it.”

“I just think it’s kind of arrogant,” Logan Storley continued. “I really respect him. I think he’s a great dude, but guess what? I don’t have the 20 years of boxing like I do in wrestling, and I understand that. It’s funny when I hear fighters say, ‘If I fix one thing, I’ll beat this guy.’ Well, I wish you the best of luck with that.”

As far as Scott Coker is concerned, he made it public that he had scored the fight for Page. Basically mocking his new interim welterweight champion for winning the fight via his grappling. Saying that, Storley’s grappling-heavy approach is “just laying on somebody.”

“I mean, to each his own,” Logan Storley would respond. “I think Scott scored it 48-47 Page, but which two rounds are you giving me? If you’re going to give me two rounds, why not give me the other two? You’re just guessing at this point. I respect Scott, me and him have a good relationship, but you can’t just pick and choose rounds that, ‘Oh, MVP won this.’ One, two, three, and five was clearly me, so which rounds are you giving me?

What are your thoughts on Logan Storley and Michael Page’s feud, and do you think Page deserves a rematch? Also, is it unprofessional for Scott Coker to say such things about his new interim champion?

Logan Storley Responds To Scott Coker’s Criticism Of Michael Page Win

Bellator interim welterweight champion Logan Storley has responded to Bellator President Scott Coker’s criticism of his most recent performance. Bellator interim welterweight champion Logan Storley has responded to Bellator President Scott Coker’s criticism of his most recent performance.

Storley defeated Michael ‘Venom’ Page via a split decision in the Bellator 281 headliner. He earned the interim belt and a chance to face off with welterweight champion Yaroslav Amosov at a later date.

While Storley’s wrestling was impressive, he didn’t put on a fan-friendly performance in many eyes. This includes Coker, who said Storley’s wrestling-heavy approach to the fight is “not MMA”.

During a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Storley gave his thoughts on Coker’s post-fight remarks.

“I mean, to each his own,” Storley said.

“I respect Scott and we have a good relationship and Bellator’s done a lot for me. I love working for those guys, but I get it. Neiman Gracie, that’s a big guy of theirs — I beat him up. Then you have MVP, you’ve got the U.K. draw — I beat him up. So yeah, if you want to be mad, be mad. But I don’t care. I’m a world champ, and if they’re not happy, put whoever you have in front of me next.”

Storley earned the interim title shot after back-to-back wins over Neiman Gracie and Dante Schiro. The former undefeated wrestling standout’s only loss in his MMA career came against Amosov in a No. 1 contender fight at Bellator 252.

In his win over Gracie, Storley showed off a vastly improved standup game that tended to overwhelm the Brazilian fighter. However, he resorted to a grappling-heavy approach to his fight with Page.

While it’s debatable whether or not Storley’s style has entertainment value, he and Coker seem to be on good terms despite Coker’s recent blowup.

Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to pair with Bellator President Scott Coker to book a fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Junior dos Santos.

Nurmagomedov has brought a lot of new talent to his Eagle FC promotion, as he’ll showcase this weekend at Eagle FC 47. The main event will feature a matchup between newly signed former UFC fighters Yorgan De Castro and Dos Santos.

Dos Santos signed with Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC following four straight losses in the UFC Octagon. Despite his recent struggles, he could be on his way to getting a potential super fight against Emelianenko.

During the Eagle FC 47 pre-fight press conference, Nurmagomedov shared his big plans for Dos Santos.

“If Dos Santos win, I really want to make Dos Santos vs. Fedor fight,” Nurmagomedov said. “But he has to focus on Yorgan for next, because this fighter here is tough opponent. I want to talk with my friend, Scott Coker, because Fedor is under Bellator contract. I don’t know what they’re gonna do next with him, but definitely we can talk, and we can do something. We can create some story.

“Why not? These two guys was long time the face of MMA. Fedor was the greatest fighter of all time in my opinion, and Dos Santos was heavyweight champion a couple years in UFC. These two guys, I think they deserve and fans deserve. For me, it’s a very interesting matchup, too.” (h/t MMA Junkie)

Emelianenko is planning his last fight for later this year, but Coker has revealed that it won’t take place in Moscow, RU amidst the invasion of Ukraine. Emelianenko most recently defeated Tim Johnson in his return at Bellator 269 last October.

After getting word of Nurmagomedov’s comments, Coker responded on Twitter.

“Thanks for the call [Khabib],” Coker replied to Nurmagomedov. Looking forward to sitting down next week, dinner’s on you.”

Depending on how things play out at Eagle FC 47 this weekend, we could be on the verge of seeing a cross-promotional battle between dos Santos and Emelianenko, two of the best heavyweights in MMA history.

Scott Coker Criticizes Logan Storley’s Win: “You Can’t Just Lay On Somebody”

Bellator President Scott Coker thinks interim welterweight champion Logan Storley could’ve done more in his win at Bellator 281.

Storley defeated Michael Venom Page via split decision in the Bellator 281 headliner. He won with his wrestling and was able to survive barrages from Page on the feet to secure the victory.

But Storley’s approach to his win over Page didn’t go without criticism. Many fans and pundits questioned the final scorecards due to Storley’s reluctance to put out offense after scoring takedowns.

During his Bellator 281 post-fight press conference, Coker explained why he feels Storley did a disservice to the viewing audience.

“Honestly, I think Logan has some improvement to do myself too,” Coker said of Storley. “You can’t just lay on somebody and think you’re gonna win and score points, that’s not MMA, that’s wrestling. To me, if you’re gonna wrestle, you have to continue to wrestle and then try to submit, ground-and-pound, strike.

“There’s a difference between what you see on the wrestling mat and what you see in the cage. To me, all these fighters…. they’re at the very highest level of what they do. But, they owe it to themselves, they owe it to the audience, to the fans… to continue to get better at the disciplines that they’re not strong in.”

Coker went on to answer how he scored the Storley vs. Page headliner.

“I thought [Page] won that fight,” Coker revealed. “The reason I say that… Half of the round, he was striking. The other half, you can’t just lay on somebody. You’re not doing any damage, you’re not getting close to a submission, you’re not creating any threat. You’re just laying on somebody, and that’s not MMA.”

Storley earned a shot for the interim title after welterweight champion Yaroslav Amosov pulled out of his fight with Page to fight on the front lines in Ukraine. Page earned the title shot by defeating Douglas Lima via a split decision.

Despite Coker’s criticism, Storley will face Amosov at a later date in a rematch of their close fight at Bellator 252. The former Division I wrestling standout will look to bring a more well-rounded game to the champion in his next Bellator appearance.

Bellator President Scott Coker says that open scoring is something that should be considered for Bellator.

This comes after a contentious decision occurred last week in Bellator 277’s main event as Patrício “Pitbull” Freire defeated A.J. McKee via unanimous decision. Some argued McKee had done enough to defend his title. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson even went as far as to label the decision “the worst robbery I’ve ever seen in MMA“.

While the former champion who lost his belt that night went by the old saying ‘to be the champ you’ve got to beat the champ’, McKee felt as though ‘Pitbull’ failed to do so.

Open scoring has been up for debate within MMA for some time now. It most certainly would add a new element to the sport for which all parties, including the fighters, coaches, and fans could benefit.

Adding open scoring would allow corners to know how the judges have scored the fight round by round, allowing for adjustments and changes in strategy if their fighter is losing.

Several UFC fighters have called for open scoring, including the likes of Stephen Thompson and Cory Sandhagen. The state of Colorado opted to adopt new rules and regulations that included open scoring for boxing and MMA bouts more recently in late 2021.

Coker is now open to introducing the system to Bellator.

“We’d have to get that approved by the commission, but it’s something we should consider,” Coker said. “It’s something the fans would enjoy, and I think the media would enjoy covering that, too, seeing the score as each round goes by.”

One of the drawbacks involving open scoring would be judges being influenced by crowd reactions to the round-by-round scoring, although Coker doesn’t see an issue with it.

“I trust our judges, and I don’t think that would be a problem. I would hope that the judges wouldn’t be swayed by people in the building or online,” said Coker. (h/t Sports Illustrated)
