John McCarthy and Josh Thomson have suggested that Sean O’Malley was “smart” to reject a matchup with Frankie Edgar, albeit for different reasons than “Sugar” gave. O’Malley was last in action at UFC 264 in July. After the late withdrawal of Louis Smolka, the bantamweight prospect opened the main card with promotional newcomer Kris Moutinho. […]

Sean O’Malley believes the 58-year-old Evander Holyfield is putting his health at a huge risk by returning to the boxing ring to fight a much younger Vitor Belfort.
Holyfield fights against Belfort Saturday, Sep. 11th, and took the fight on short notice to fill in for Oscar De La Hoya. De La Hoya tested positive for COVID-19 and forced the promoters to scramble to find someone to step in. ‘The Real Deal’ stepped in and this will be his first professional boxing match in 10 years. The former six-time champion is 14 years older than his opponent Vitor Belfort who looks in fantastic fighting shape.
‘Suga’ was on his podcast (TimboSugarShow) discussing the possible long-term effects Holyfield could have by going toe to toe with the 44-year-old Belfort. “He is 58! Dude, he can get knocked out and die. Vitor is Jacked… That’s crazy”
Belfort was a former Light Heavyweight champion and one of the pioneers of the UFC. Belfort is no slouch and although he lost most of his recent fights, he looks in better shape than he has in years. Michael Bisping claims that Belfort is “100% juiced up“. This makes the fight even more dangerous for Holyfield if Vitor is on “the juice”.
The fight was even moved to Florida because that would be on of the only places that would actually give Holyfield a professional bout. Many combat sports fans have been up in arms about ‘The Real Deal’ being able to fight. The Florida commission claimed he was given a license after he passed his medical requirements.
O’Malley has an accurate point by stating that a clean KO could have catastrophic implications on Holyfields long term health.
Do you agree with Sean O’Malley? Should Evander Holyfield’s health be a concern?

UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley isn’t like the majority of fans who were in-awe watching Paddy Pimblett‘s knockout at UFC Vegas 36 and has clapped back at the lightweight after Pimblett criticized his fighting style.
O’Malley is coming off of his late TKO over Kris Moutinho at UFC 264, battering Moutinho over the course of three rounds of nonstop striking. He has won two straight fights since his first UFC loss against Marlon Vera at UFC 252.
O’Malley and Pimblett have been in a bit of a social media squabble after Pimblett took some shots at O’Malley’s grappling during a recent interview with MMA on Point. O’Malley recently addressed his comments during his recent podcast episode and seemed unaffected by Pimblett’s passive-aggressive trash talk.
But that appears to have changed after O’Malley spoke out about Pimblett’s first-round knockout over Luigi Vendramini at UFC Vegas 36 and doesn’t seem too appalled as most of us were by the performance.
“I wasn’t impressed by his skill set,” O’Malley said during a recent podcast episode. “I wasn’t like, ‘damn, this dude is fucking good’. He is definitely good, he is in the UFC, he belongs there, he beat a guy, but I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll just have to see how it plays out.”
“I wonder how they bring him up. Do they do him similar to me? Let him fight cans for seven years, eight years, nine years, or they give him a top guy? I feel like top-10 guys beat him.”
There’s definitely a chance we could see O’Malley and Pimblett on the same UFC card sooner rather than later, or even as soon as by year’s end. Both fighters are awaiting their next opponents and O’Malley recently turned down a fight with Frankie Edgar at UFC 268.
It’ll be fascinating to watch how these two interact when Pimblett and O’Malley come face-to-face during a UFC event.

UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley doesn’t put much stock in rising star Paddy Pimblett‘s recent comments that were specifically critical of his grappling prowess in his fights. O’Malley, known for his elite striking inside of the octagon, didn’t seem fazed after hearing about Pimblett’s recent trash talk.
O’Malley is coming off arguably two of the most impressive performances of his young UFC career, with a knockout over Thomas Almeida and the battering he put on Kris Moutinho at UFC 264 en route to a fifth-round TKO. He has quickly become one of the UFC’s brightest young stars stemming from his time on Dana White‘s Contender Series.
O’Malley recently got word of some harsh words that Pimblett had for him during a recent interview with MMA on Point and felt compelled to respond to the notion that his grappling isn’t exactly up to par.
Yeah, I didn’t know he was talking shit about me. That’s not very nice,” O’Malley said on his podcast. “Maybe he just knows that talk bad about me, it’s publicity. He said I had bad grappling. I wonder why people just assume I have bad grappling. So it’s just weird that some people just assume that because I’m a good striker I must be a bad grappler.”
O’Malley went on to acknowledge that he’s had brief spurts of grappling during his fights in the UFC. While he’s mostly known as a knockout artist and a striking specialist, he still trains jiu-jitsu during training in Arizona.
Pimblett is riding high after his incredible UFC debut, knocking out Luigi Vendramini at UFC Vegas 36 just minutes into the fight. Pimblett is the former Cage Warriors featherweight champion and arguably the biggest signing in the sport of MMA this year.
While there doesn’t appear to be serious bad blood between the two mega personalities, it appears that the two of them have different opinions about the grappling aspect of MMA, and more specifically regarding O’Malley’s skillset.
Do you think Sean O’Malley is as bad as Paddy Pimblett makes it out to be?
